View Full Version : Tarot of the spirit
Hello everybody...
Im new here and fairly used to reading english but NOT writing it. Hope you'll understand.
I just bought the Tarot of the spirit and think it's very beautiful and special. Im afraid it's my deck no. 30 (!!!) keep on looking for THE deck. Does enyone of you know about this one, and if... what do you think about it?
Hope to hear from you :-)
Hey Gipsy! Love your name!
I do have the tarot of the spirit. I bought it years ago because I really liked the images. I also bought the book that went with it and was quite impressed by it's depth. I still love this deck and use it regularly.
I had to laugh when I saw you have 30 decks ...... and are still seeking! I think many of us can relate. For me, it's not a matter of seeking THE ONE, but having a blast collecting. My decks give me so much pleasure. In a life full of responsibilities, they're a breath of fresh air!!!! :)

Tarot of the Spirit is one of my favorite decks (and like you I have about 30 and counting ;-) )! What I like most about this deck is the positive "spirit" that the creators infused into it. I also use the Crowley/Harris Thoth deck, and find that TOS provides an uplifting calming balance to Thoth's bold energies. They complement each other quite well.
Any pictures of this deck anywhere? I'm intrigued...

It looks beautiful.
Another deck to the wishlist.......
I too like the artwork on this deck, but there's one thing folks might want to know, and that is that there is a slight Christian influence in the cards which may put off some who are not Christian, or it may not. I'm Jewish, and I found it difficult to work with for this reason. There are crosses subtly worked into the design of many of the cards, such as for example the 3 of Cups or the Death card. The Minor cards all have titles, and the title of the 10 of Swords is "The Way of the Cross," which I found hard to see in any other than a Christian context.
Again, others may find this doesn't bother them, but I thought I should bring it up. It's odd because the book really doesn't focus that much on Christian elements.

since i have studied tarot, and all the various aspects of symbolism that it brings to light, i have learned that the cross is not strictly a christian symbol.
also, joyce eakins has written a very enlightening book about women in spirituality through the ages; those interested in her deck may be interested in this book. it revealed much of her philosophy behind her "tarot of the spirit" for me. the book is called "priestess", and in fact, there's an illustration from the deck on the cover...
Hello again.
My internet went down (!? is that right said?) sorry im answering so late... :-) ANDn thanks DESO ;-)... happy for all the answers.
I´ve always (since start=three years) been more than interested in Crowley´s Thoth Tarot but... It´s so ..... hmmm... dark. But very beautiful, and seems so right, you know? I think it's the symbology...?!
And I think that's why I fell in love whit tarot of the spirit... much the same, but more happy...
Im very interested in the history and that's why I just can't live with Voyager, Osho Zen, Röhrig and so.. allthough they are really pretty...
Can anyone follow my feelings....?
Love from...

I bought Tarot of the Spirit as my first deck. Well, I love it, and I'm glad to see there is now a posting on this deck. Was starting to feel like I'm the only person on the planet using it.
It is beautiful, and I agree with the post that it feels more positive than other decks. I also have a Universal deck (I got it because I thought I "had" to have it so that I knew what everyone else was writing about) but I never use it.
The challenging thing for me is this deck is not the easiest to interpret, but I haven't been able to rip myself away to use Universal instead. There are no people getting stabbed in the back, holding their head in sadness, etc. Each card is so beautiful. THere is also some Kabala symbolism in the cards that you will not undersand unless you read the book. To me, it's not really Christian oriented, but rather, Kabala-influenced.

So, your first deck was Tarot of the spirit Quan Yin.
Mine was the Moon garden, some feel it is to light, but I just like it.
Especially the Major Arcana.
I think I´m ordering this deck soon, and the book to go with it, the images look simply stunning as I said earlier.
It is slightly expensive though, I will have to think things over.
I´ll keep in touch, if or when I get it.
Take care all.
Hey all,
I just bought the Tarot of the Spirit and I really love it. The paintings actually remind me a little of Thoth but I think it is more RW influenced. This is definately a great meditational deck. The excess of crosses were a bit off puting but I prefer to think of them from an alchemical perspective and apply the meaning that way.
This is a *really* great deck!

just ordered it :)
The Tarot of the Spirit is a fantastic deck for intuitive readings, the images really do hit hard but its not a deck that I found easy to read straight from the box. The artwork is dreamlike, I once described it as the product of some one's nightmares, but then I started to read the amazing book that goes with this deck and my perception of it changed a lot.
I still have a love/hate relationship with this deck but I think its because in self-readings, it hits places that I really don't want to explore.
Enjoy your new deck Brammetje :)

thanks Emily!
wow that is such a beautifull name :)
I am really glad I found this deck...it seems to be somewhere in between thoth and golden dawn, so a very interesting deck for my collection...
I like the art work too...
so dreamy...
I even got that old "this might be the one" feeling with this deck. :)
My favorite is the Gill tarot now,
love,

I'm reviving this thread because I've just begun working with my Tarot of the Spirit. I bought this years ago, thought it was beautiful but it was WAY beyond me at that point.
I pulled it out again and am now really loving it. It's very Thoth inspired. Maybe that's why I couldn't understand or "get" it before. Now, even though I still don't know the Thoth very well, I'm much more informed and comfortable with tarot in general. So I can relate to it much more. And I'm uneerstanding more of the Tree of Life stuff than I ever did before.
The artwork is beautiful and dreamy. :* Just wanted to talk about my new excitment! :*

I bought it back in the mid-90s and haven't really used it. But I took a seminar with Pam Eakins at BATS last year and the card I pulled as part of the exercise made sense. I think I can actually use this deck now some 12+ years later.

I think I bought mine about 6 or so years ago. And am just now feeling that I may beable to use it....a little. LOL It really is beautiful and I want to get to place where I can use it.
The book is amazing too! Explains things in ways I can understand. It's actually getting me to a place where I want to learn more about the Tree of Life instead of thinking I should! She talks about color and elemental correspondants, etc. Very interesting book!

Wow a thread from way back in 2001 ! How cool is that !
Tarot of the Spirit was one of the first decks I got when I joined AT, but I traded it because I was frustrated with it. It was not the right time then, I still had my hands full learning the RWS.
Years later I bought the ToS back (the only deck I ever bought back after trading), and the book as well which is a goldmine in itself.
I love this deck although I have not used it much lately.
I can read with the ToS but I don't get along with the Thoth - I appreciate it intellectually but I just don't connect with it.
I connect much better with the ToS :D

That was exactly what happened with me. When I got this deck years ago I was still learning the RWS and didn't feel comfortable with that system let alone trying to learn another one! LOL So while I loved the artwork I couldn't do a thing with it. Now though I'm having fun playing and beginning to learning more.

I'm glad to learn that I'm not the only person who found ToS to be well-niegh impossible to learn back in the day.
If I wasn't so deep into Lenormand/TdM, I might even be up for looking at it again!
However..., the clover card didn't come up. ;) :) :P
