Now I've never had that many disappear on me, but I do believe stones can move themselves.
I know. I know. Some of you are laughing, but it's true!!!
One time I was taking a trip (in my car, so no plane employees handling my luggage). I took a small wooden box that I put my stones in. I put the box in the middle of my clothes, in the middle of my suitcase for safe keeping.
When I got there one of the stones had disappeared!!!! There was no physical way it could have gotten out. But it was not there anymore and I personally had put it there while packing!!!!
So stones do disappear!!! But Murphy.....having that many go lost on you, I think there's something else going on. I have no idea what!!!! LOL But it's not usual to have that many disappear IMO.
If it were me I'd take for granted they can (on their own) disappear and beginning from that point try to understand why they would need to go somewhere else once you get them???? Are you buying the stones you're drawn to or stones someone else told you to buy??? Maybe you're not getting the correct stones that you need right now???? Completely just a thought to ponder! I maybe be off on the exact wrong angle.......but just see what you can come up with.
And also you said you were on alot of medication.....I of course have no idea what medications, but maybe that has something to do with it. Either you're not remembering where you put them, or they don't like the medications you are on?????
I know, kind of woo woo stuff, but again just something else to ponder!! :)
Vanished how? Dropped it? Misplaced it? Or mysteriously gone?
And where do you keep your stones? :)
Possible reasons:
1) It's taking a "vacation".
2) You forgot where you put them (due to meds perhaps).
3) Someone thought it was pretty and... whoops! (Bad...)
No one likes to loose things (especially not gemstones). However, it is something we need to deal with. The first step is (of course) prevention. Take the necessary steps to avoid dropping or misplacing them. Put them in a special (and safe) place. Don't leave them lying around.
And if you lose a crystal, don't worry. As I said, it may be just taking a vacation to cleanse itself, and will eventually return. Or it may be gone forever... its work with you is complete. :)
I remember the case of my "Blaufluss" pendulum (sorry, I don't know the English name of that arificially made red or blue stone with shining golden/silver sparkles in it). I had placed it in the drawer where I store all my decks and crystals in and whoops, it was gone!
I emptied out the whole drawer twice and never came across my beloved pendulum. I already considered it lost when I rearranged the drawer again several months later to make room for new decks and guess what I found?! My pendulum!
I was so happy but could not find any explanation why I did not find it before when the drawer was TWICE empty.

I had forgotten about this time until you told your story catlin.
But I had something similar happen with a calcite stone. For some reason (can't remember why now) I had it in my hand. And you know how you put things down almost with realizing it when you get sidetracked???? Well I must have put it down somewhere in the house (because I hadn't gone anywhere else). And I didn't have that big of a house!! LOL -- very small!!! :)
Well I couldn't find it anywhere!!!! I looked everywhere!! Even in drawers and under the chairs and couch (thinking the cat might have been playing with it) Then every couple of days I'd look again!!
After about 2 weeks of looking I kind of gave up! I mean I had looked everywhere many times and didn't find it.
Then about 3 months later I was giving the house a good cleaning and cleaned underneath the couch. And there it was!!! I had looked there MANY times!! :D It had come back to me!!! :)

Hi Murphy!
My stones don't actually disappear, but they do move all the time, and it's precisely when I need to use one the most, that I find I'm involved in a frustrating hunt. I eventually find the one I want, but it's anybody's guess how they get moved, because I leave them where they are. Perhaps the cat has secretly developed opposable thumbs, but that's doubtful...
My gramma used to tell me the Faeries love to move, or "borrow" things, especially pretty, shiny things. Like crystals. Since I live by myself, with the aforementioned cat, Faeries are the only logical conclusion I can make!
Hmmm, Dark, I am still wondering if my Fairies belong to the tribe of the furry fourfooted softpawed one commonly called cats!
Thankyou, everyone for your response
The most fantastic thing happened last night... I made my first serious circle, and invoked the God, and when I was finished, it was fantastic... I was filled with static electricity, and went straight to where my missing gem bag was. It was in my tens machine pouch that I use for pain. But I looked there so many times already... I know I'm on some heavy duty drugs like morphine and anti-depressents as well as not sleeping nights with pain that it can play on your memory. No, I searched and checked there....
Oh, I buy stones only that I'm drawn to and now I polish some with my rock tumbler...

I dont think crystals move. But crystals grow bigger and bigger. Not all but most. Maybe your siblings, cousins or parents took your crystal and you guys didnt know. Maybe spirit took the crystal as it belong to the spirit. Crystal is from the wild..eerie!!

I've had stones come and go. Like most friendships sometimes it seems to be time to move on. Right now I have a crystal with a 3-D image of my face in it. I have no idea what it means, but shortly after getting together with my twin flame the sillhouette of his face began to morph off of mine in the crystal. I later found one that has the faces of each of our daughters in it and it's magnetic with the first crystal. I haven't seen the kids faces, but a friend who didn't have clue the first looked in the second stone and saw both kids. She said," I see Kate's face in here, but who's this other little girl?" and went on to describe my love's daughter to a t! Eerie, but normal for my life.:)

I saw an article that Crystals have life, they are living things. They grow bigger and larger. And maybe you are 1 out of the
1 000 000 people that has a crystal look like someone you know. As water always rush through crystal in wild and make different patterns on it.

Hello all-
Once I was examining a crystal I have and in my mind questioning whether it was indeed a piece of quartz or just glass.
The next day, it was gone. About a week later I found it trying to escape - it was dangerously close to the vent in the floor. Since then, that one has disappeared and reappeared many times. I never knew they would do that. -michelley

I never thought much about this, and I needed to find this thread right now because as of March I lost a ring which means A LOT to me, and it is a never before occurance for me to lose an important piece or jewelry for this long.
It was always near me and now...gone.
I had gone to San Francisco, just before it vanished, but I have looked everywhere and I wore it all the way home.
It is a very large amethyst with a green tourmaline on either side.
I have complete faith it will reappear, but would like suggestions on how to coax it to come back.

i have a spectrolite, which is a very typical finnish stone. it is grey but if you look at it on a certain angle, you can see the most beautiful iriscident (sp?) circles. it is really gorgeous and i love it because it looks so common otherwise.
i wanted to offer it as a gift in a trade and just found it has disappeared from the sealed box where i keep all my stones.
after reading this thread, i don't think i'm crazy anymore ;-) and i have given up searching for it. if it wants to come back, it will on its own time :-)

aio,
I have been doing this for years, and it seems to always work. I got it from Linda Goodman's Star signs book. You say, very clearly, "Divine Spirit of my higher self, lead me, now, instantly, to that which I have lost (picture thing in your mind). I ordain this under heavan. Thank you'. Then think about something else quietly and I swear you will walk right to it if it is still within your grasp.
Here is my best story. I was searching frantically for my keys. Nowhere. I said that. And I walked straight to the garbage, opened it and there were my keys. No kidding. Many other stories but none so dramatic. It only failed to work once, and I am pretty sure that what I had lost was gone, outside the house and permanently lost.

Thank you Marion!
That was exactly what I was hoping to hear !
I would love to tell you all that I walked straight to the ring (I have turned everything in two houses inside out) but...I have to clear my space and mind and try it.
In both living places. Several times, perhaps.
If it doesn't turn the trick then...I will try it again.
I am incredibly patient with Magickal Workings, and that is just the thing I needed to hear. I will let you know ...
anything else known to coax crystals or amulets ( that have perhaps felt disrespected - and for good cause ) I would sure welcome advice...after two months I have picked lint from every crevice of every cranny...nothing.
I will try Marion's spell first chance ; - >

Why would I think you are nuts? I believe exactly the same - there is a method to all madness, we seek to become one with the madness...right ?

I find things like Marion's charm work well for me for mundane stuff, but not so well for anything significant. My house is somewhat untidy, but reasonably organised (at least by my lights), and I'm one of those people who generally knows where among my archeological layers a given thing is, though it drives those round me crazy.
I do occasionally lose stones or working (with a capital W) tools, and I think they go for reasons of their own. They usually come back into my life at a more or less significant moment, either coincident with an event or happening, or as an indicator that it is time to work with that object. Some things, of course, I lose because I neglect them; if you don't pay attention to a charged object, why would it not walk?
Last year, though, I lost a pendant... I do often wear, under my clothes, a small pentacle, one of those nice ones with the flower-petal interlace. And it disappeared. I searched everywhere for it -- everywhere. Then a dear friend of ours died, and as I was getting dressed for his wake, the pentacle fell out of a little bag I use to carry around bits and pieces of "special" jewellery. Now, I KNOW I'd turned out and emptied that bag several times since losing the pentacle, yet there it was; somehow, I needed to wear it to mark D's passing. And since then it's stayed.
I'll look for lost ritual objects, and if I have something special in mind that I really, really need some AWOL thing for, I'll tell it so, aloud, in the hopes of drawing it back... which sometimes works... but I've come to accept that a lot of them do come into and out of my world according to their own whims.

I hear you on that one...like the way I lose the tarot decks I don't quite fit with...
the ones I never shuffled, but stuck under a chair and thought I forgot about, and the stones I never felt all that much of an affinity for...
Maybe you nailed this: I lose only the things I think I need when I really don't. The truly necessary people, thoughts, and objects are never far.
Hey, there is my answer for now:
I will do Marion's come hither call/invocation, and after 3 or 6 tries, I will go with the theory you present:
{I almost made a bad joke about this having a parrallel in my romantic life...but I deleted it ;) }
so: if it does not appear, it was not a needful thing.
I did not mention this earlier, but I should now: this ring was a pre- or actual (never very clear) engagement ring...and it left in between my return from San Francisco, and some bad news.
It may be on it's own agenda, wondering why I couldn't catch on sooner.

My question for myself is what attachment do I have with the object missing. When did I get it? Who gave it to me? Is there something going on with that relationship?
I just did a Cutting Ties with a friend last night. She needed to rid herself of emotional ties she still had with an ex. It was interesting as we dug through the layers. She began with six objects that represented her ex. She ended with nearly 100 (including cards and letters).
Just a thought!

my amethyst has vanished
i put it into the tarot bag i always carry yesterday in the morning with a white crystal
today i opened the bag, and i took out my white cyrstal and ... >_< ... !_! ... my amethyst is gone
i looked into my bag and the wooden box where i put all the gems but nothing
feel so bad now
...
i'll go look again
:P
I was given a wonderful amethyst point, about the size of a chicken egg, and it fit perfectly in the palm of my hand. I got it over a year ago, and carried around quite a bit, then put it away like I do most of my stones.
We have since moved, and when I was recently taking stock of my stones, that amethyst was gone! I looked everywhere. I am so sad! Though I didn't use it often, I still liked it.
It was given to me by a customer at the metaphysical store where I worked. He was a friendly enough guy, he came in and gave these crystals to several employees and the owners. He said they came to him be an incredible bargain along with several others, so he thought it would be appropriate to share his good fortune.
I will try the calling spell. I hope so much to find it!

I've had a few go on vacation....
One came back after I got tired of looking for it and forgotten it.
One day after i vaccumed, it was laying in the floor when i came back from putting the vaccum up.
I've had one just come to me.
One that was not mine, it just showed up...

I checked in on this thread because I have been gone so much of the summer...and also because I am still calling my amethyst and green tourmaline ring, but even with no success yet - I have faith it will return.
My mother died in the few days between my return from San Francisco (last wearing) and my noticing that the ring was nowhere to be found. If the ring is following the pattern of everything else involving her death, it will return when and how she plans for it to do so.
I'll not worry until next April.

In scrolling down this thread to re-copy Marion's calling ritual - because I still haven't found it and it is not stolen, (noone ever comes into the workshop where I last put it down,) I noticed that most - or many - of the ones that walked away were amethysts.
I thought about this a lot and still don't seem to consider it objectively because I keep feeling that displaced and superflous attachment and longing for the specific amethyst I lost (for now). Kind of funny - never minded losing my wedding rings from my first marriage, which disappeared for a year and a half then turned up in a ridiculous place.
This amethyst, set open- backed, cast the most incredible lights all around when held backwards up to the sun!
Lately I have put other amethysts in a pouch over my bed and under my bed, hoping I will dream of where it is - eventually - or just feel surrounded by enough amethyst energy that I am soothed.
:( (patience, patience, A)
What an interesting topic ! I am still fairly new to crystals but I have been told that some crystals do not like being close to certain other kinds of crystals. Now I like crystals & I had bought some little wooden houses with squares to display small things on. I displayed them on a wall & added a crystal to each square. Some refused to stay in certain boxes & actually jumped right out on to the floor. Had I not been forewarned I would have felt quite spooked out by it. Now when I buy new crystals & place them, I see which ones fit better next to others quickly. I know it sound nutz to say they jump but they do.
Also I find displaying my amethyst...it loses it's purple when the sun shines on it for too long. I know keep my amethyst in a special box. Are there any others that do not do well with sunlight ?

That is am interesting point, Madonna... I have a whole bunch- of different shapes of smoky quartz and the kindly old guy who sells me all my crystals (George at the Ososoft Mineral shop...he has a great website but I forgot the url...it caters mostly to collecter's and gem specialists)
Anyway, the wizardly George, complete with long white beard, showed me the long quartz points and how some of the dark topaz color goes up to a slanted line across the pointed crystal formation and goes clear with a noticable line as if painted from within.
He said this is where the sun reached and no further, so over the years, as that point grew in its cluster, the sun was blocked by other points that joined it.
Clearly the sun fades the color.
There must be some way they "set" the color of jewelry because otherwise all set crystals would fade. Who would pay huge prices for a fading amethyst?
I make leather bags and I fix crystal to the front, and being rather anal, I try hard to keep both the leather and the crystals from sun.

I have have recently had my pendulum disapear as well. I kept in my jewlery armoire. I have never used it even though I have had it for several years, bought it at a Renaissance Fair.I saw it last week, and I thought about taking it out and trying to scry with it. Next it was gone. I took everything out of every drawer and never found it. :(

The amethyst ring disappeared during the two days between our return from San Francisco and the news of my mother's violent death on March 19.
Other bizarre physical stuff got knocked about and things happened during the week she died...so I think the amethyst is either gone for good, or that it will return near the one year anniversary of her death.
Obviously the ring is not as important as losing my mother. So much family stuff was destroyed when her home burned down that it is hard to worry about the ring, in fact it feels quite shallow of me.
