cleansing

when i first get a deck i cleanse it, i say a prayer over it, place my hands on each card to give it my personal energy then meditate with it before its use to connect further to it.

After that I usually cleanse my deck after each reading i do. Otherwise i have found that sometimes the readings can overlap for me from one person to another. Very simply I "knock" on my deck crisply and one sharp tap. It seems to work perfectly for me and its quick, easy, and can be done anywhere :)

I tend to use a variety of methods, depending of what intuitively feels right at that time for the particular deck....Generally for a new deck I will smudge, cleanse & charge it with Reiki before using it. To cleanse the decks I use regularly I will perhaps put them in order along with a good shuffle and a bit of Reiki also. The intent to cleanse & recharge is the most important thing whichever means you use to do it. :)

A damp clothe and a quick dry if the kids get at them with their sugar coated paws. My cards are "tuned" to me, I think of the querent as a short term influx of energy through me and projected into the cards. The cards are my tool to help me "see" my sub conscience mind and tune in to the energy's passing through me so they do not need to be cleaned.

If the fellow touching my cards was inherently evil, and that is rare as I feel we are inherently good...then I might try aroma therapy of some sort, as it always makes me feel better so why not my cards.

To clean my decks, I use a cloth lightly dipped in salt water. To cleanse the deck from reading to reading I put them in order of suit, not necessarily in numerical order. However, I did have a situation a couple of weeks ago where someone abused my lovers card, I was doing a reading and he picked the card up and went balistic over it, slapping it, flicking it, and put a crease in the card. Oooh, I was furious! It seems like I haven't been able to read the deck since (could just be me), I can't seem to get rid of that negative energy. This weekend I am going to buy a replacement and see if it makes a difference.
All in all, I think it's personal preference.

I don't cleanse my cards. I've never seen the need to do it. All the energy of every reading is in there and I think it gives my decks a dynamic that's very important. I don't believe it's possible for bad energies to harm my cards.

Here are some threads about cleansing cards that you can get lots of information about cleansing cards from:

No offense to anyone here, but my personal opinion is that it would be ridiculous to 'cleanse' them. They're pieces of cardstock. It's you who interprets their meaning, and you who has the control over them. I don't cleanse or clean my cards, except for physically.

I don't really cleanse my decks - but do feel the need to re-order them occasionally just to make sure I haven't lost one along the way.

However, I would cleanse them if I felt the need. Probably using sage and Reiki.
