This fellow is dead. His biography is on my kitchen table and I have something in his hand (a close to contemporary print) on one of my walls. Thats all you get for now.

8 wands quick, decisive who put his ideas into action.

World achieved what he set his mind to, successful, prosperous, contented, and shared his good fortune with others.

4 pents he did not like things to change, he needed to be in charge, perhaps he liked collecting things.

Page of cups emotional, romantic man by nature.

As an adult, and after finding his vocation he was very quick witted and decisive, as he dedicated himself to it.

World achieved what he set his mind to, successful, prosperous, contented, and shared his good fortune with others.

World is a good card.

4 pents he did not like things to change, he needed to be in charge, perhaps he liked collecting things.

I would not be surprised if he collected things, he was in charge, but had to react to change often, in this case four of pentacles might be more about control.

Page of cups emotional, romantic man by nature.

Hmm, OK yes in his early years I know he spent some time looking out the window daydreaming, and a successful marriage takes a romantic man.

Lots of little clues here.

By the by Willow I liked your take on the "Quickie 3-card Relationship throw"

Base card Heirophant - whoever he was was a kind of leader/teacher in his field that others took inspiration from and learnt from and continued his tradition

Looks - Hermit
Frugal in dress, not contemporary, did his own thing
Had a beard and long hair ? lol Hippyish and a bit bohemian, slim build, healthy

Personality - Justice
Strong personality, fair in dealings with others, kept emotions in control, intelligent, good person, rational and diplomatic, spoke their mind

Career/Reputation - 9 of Swords
Instead of saying he had bad luck or a hard struggle I think perhaps he may have been involved in a field that dealt with suffering, anxiety, phobias and the like - perhaps a psychologist? or a painter who depicted this sort of thing

Home/Personal Life - Princess of Cups
Seems like had a warm loving home life, with a couple children - no major problems here

Its not Salvador Dali is it? or Carl Jung?

Thanks TCO!

shadow: 7 of Swords
He had to keep his cards close to his chest - he had to be sly - there was sneaking around.

Looks: 3 of Wands * 5 of Pents
Far off look, and a complex look in his face - he had saddness in his eyes, frustration. He was dark haired - well built - not thin or fat.

Personality: Temperance * Queen of Wands
balanced, always tried to keep things balanced and didn't like rocking the boat, Very creative guy, his mind was always working - lots of creative energy - he was always doing something. Very determined. Resolute.

Career: Queen of Cups * 7 of Pents
His attention was always elsewhere, he was very passionate about his work, very creative, maybe a writer or an artist. He worked with his hands - took risks.

Home/Family: 10 of Wands * Death
He had a large family - they were a burden to him but also a source of great rebirth and energy. I also think his hme life was wrought with pain and darkness. But he trudged thru - he had enormous energy and life within him to take whatever was dealt.

Who is he? Is he a writer? or an artist?

Crowned- I gotta come see your walls- they sound pretty interesting!!!!!
Gonna throw some cards before I hit the road- won't be back until tomorrow night- so good luck everyone!
I'm gonna die laughing if I find out you have a mace hanging on your wall crowned!!!

Looks- 7 Coins 5 Cups- Steely -eyed, no nonsense, like a patron, bearded, shrewd, ingenius, watching his back.

Career- 8 Wands MagicianR- A Magus, an illusionist, an exploiter, a charletan?
Commerce, agriculture, travel?

Family- 6 Coins 7 Cups- Kind to his family, vigilant, attentive but also a dreamer and perhaps hurt those he was closest to by dragging them along with his foolish whims. I have a feeling he loved them, but was seperated from them a lot.

Major acheivement- Le Ciel 4 Cups- He went into the unknown and was impatient and bored with life. I keep thinking this is an explorer. Le Ciel in the Etteilla deck means an emptyness, tiredness or like a baloon with its air out of it. I would say he set out to do or find something and it was not what he expected. He came up empty in a way, but also not in a way. His riches were not what he expected.

Something special- 5 Wands- He did acheive fame and probably riches, but he had to battle for them.

I can't get out of my head this is an explorer. Marco Polo or Columbus? De Soto? Probably not Polo as he found the riches he was looking for. I feel more like De Soto or Columbus who did not find specifically what they were seeking but other riches instead. Maybe Cortez, but I would put him in the Polo category. Champlain too- they found more of what they were seeking.
What would he have in his hand? A map? A compass? One of those globe things? Is it an astrolabe?????

See ya tomorrow night!! Thanks Crowned- good game!!!

Here's my quickie 3 cards, running a little late this morning!

10 of wands
page of swords
8 of pentacles

He was very overburdened, there was a lot of spite, he might have caught some friction from others at some point that made his work difficult, this page could indicate going to great lengths to tarnish his reputation, or discredit his worth. Lol I could be reading this backwards.

Welcome back Blackairplane and Celticnoodle!!!!!

I'll draw my regular spread later this afternoon, I am very curious about this page:)

Looks: XII The Hanged Man and 8 Cups
Someone serene looking, but perhaps the face that was presented was not the face that represented how he really was (figure in 8 Cups has turned away from us)?

Personality: 2 Cups and The Devil
Like the laydeez? Prone to addictions and giving in to temptations - women, drink, drugs - a veritable rock and roller!

Career: 3 Cups and 10 Cups
Successful - perhaps even literally - women and drink. Yet the other card tempered with this is 10 Cups - was this someone who appeared to have it all and might have been on the cusp of a downwards spiral?

The first person that springs to mind is Jim Morrison, but I don't even know if he was married.

Base card Heirophant - whoever he was was a kind of leader/teacher in his field that others took inspiration from and learnt from and continued his tradition

This is very true, 2 of the top of my head were quite famous. But I do ot think this info will help sove who he is....

Looks - Hermit
Frugal in dress, not contemporary, did his own thing
Had a beard and long hair ? lol Hippyish and a bit bohemian, slim build, healthy

Slim and healthy clean shaved in his portraits.

Personality - Justice
Strong personality, fair in dealings with others, kept emotions in control, intelligent, good person, rational and diplomatic, spoke their mind

Very true.

Career/Reputation - 9 of Swords
Instead of saying he had bad luck or a hard struggle I think perhaps he may have been involved in a field that dealt with suffering, anxiety, phobias and the like - perhaps a psychologist? or a painter who depicted this sort of thing

Sorry, off on this one.

Home/Personal Life - Princess of Cups
Seems like had a warm loving home life, with a couple children - no major problems here

More then a couple and very happy it seems to me.

Its not Salvador Dali is it? or Carl Jung?

Not these two.

Thanks TCO!

shadow: 7 of Swords
He had to keep his cards close to his chest - he had to be sly - there was sneaking around.

Not generally.

Looks: 3 of Wands * 5 of Pents
Far off look, and a complex look in his face - he had saddness in his eyes, frustration. He was dark haired - well built - not thin or fat.

Dark hair, I think he looked complex. Hid build was just shy of medium to wards slim efficient.

Personality: Temperance * Queen of Wands
balanced, always tried to keep things balanced and didn't like rocking the boat, Very creative guy, his mind was always working - lots of creative energy - he was always doing something. Very determined. Resolute.

I feel this is true.

Career: Queen of Cups * 7 of Pents
His attention was always elsewhere, he was very passionate about his work, very creative, maybe a writer or an artist. He worked with his hands - took risks.

He did take risks, but it was a part of the job, and worked with his hands. He wrote, but not for a living ( it crossed his mind he might publish during his career) and was a amateur drawer.

Home/Family: 10 of Wands * Death
He had a large family - they were a burden to him but also a source of great rebirth and energy. I also think his hme life was wrought with pain and darkness. But he trudged thru - he had enormous energy and life within him to take whatever was dealt.

He had a large family, but a very happy home life.

Who is he? Is he a writer? or an artist?

These two items are secondary to his actual job.

I do have a Māori war club and a couple swords, but no maces. ;)

Looks- 7 Coins 5 Cups- Steely -eyed, no nonsense, like a patron, bearded, shrewd, ingenius, watching his back.[/QUOTE]

Clean shaved, Could be steely eyed I am sure, but generally looks thoughtful.

Career- 8 Wands MagicianR- A Magus, an illusionist, an exploiter, a charletan?
Commerce, agriculture, travel?

His family was in farming ...he started as a Grocer/sales clerk but was found not to be fit in attitude for it.

Family- 6 Coins 7 Cups- Kind to his family, vigilant, attentive but also a dreamer and perhaps hurt those he was closest to by dragging them along with his foolish whims. I have a feeling he loved them, but was seperated from them a lot.

Smack on with loved them but was separated a lot. 100%

He accomplished most of what he set out to do, you are RIGHT he is best known as a explorer.

Something special- 5 Wands- He did acheive fame and probably riches, but he had to battle for them.

This is true, he was not trying for fame, but he did gain it in the end.

See ya tomorrow night!! Thanks Crowned- good game!!!

He is an Explorer.

Actually this is very true at one point in the middle of what he eventually became famous for the was a struggle for control between him and another famous man, the other man was actually more famous among the general public at the time..

Welcome to the game Alison!

Looks: XII The Hanged Man and 8 Cups
Someone serene looking, but perhaps the face that was presented was not the face that represented how he really was (figure in 8 Cups has turned away from us)?

In his portaits I would say he looked serene/wise.

Personality: 2 Cups and The Devil
Like the laydeez? Prone to addictions and giving in to temptations - women, drink, drugs - a veritable rock and roller!

no I am afraid this is a miss on interpertation. But the cards are not too bad.

Again the draw is not too bad really but the interpertation misses, and he was very successful to the point of being paid a great honor posthumously by the ruler of his home country.

Not Jim.

We have a winner, I thought the readings were sharp Especially blackairplane, nice legwork!

Was the explorer the key for you willow? I like these fast games!

I have a chart from his original publication dating back to the late 1700's.

Just checking in. Wow THAT was a good reading. I just kept thinking explorer, but when I am not at home I am distracted. A great choice Crowned! and congrats to Willow for the big solve. I don't have my cards now, but will try again when I get home.
