I've noticed that some of my subscriptions that I used to have access to are "closed" does that mean "closed" to me or "closed" in general? I wonder if my subscription needs to be renewed? Thanks for your time in answering!

Do you mean threads that you have put on your watched list? Individual thread may be closed to new posts, and you can identify then by a padlock like icon next to the threads title, and in the thread itself where the "post reply" button usually would be.
I don't think your subscription has expired, you still have the subscribers star next to your name.
