Just wanted to share this with you...

For my daughter, a few summers ago: I created this handmade 'Oracle Book' (not sure what you call it).

But I took a small, thick spiral notebook and on every single page, in a black sharpie, I wrote random questions, comments, etc..(example: 'Ask your mother' 'Eat some ice cream, then the answer will come to you', ' do ten jumping jacks' 'sleep on it', 'pet the dog then you'll understand', 'How do you feel?' 'go touch the fifth spoon in the silverware drawer' etc, etc. the list is endless what you can write....

And with her eyes closed, I have her sit down with the notebook in her lap, holding it, and ask a question or for help with any issue, etc..

Then, still with closed eyes, she flips open the notebook and turns pages till she 'feels' like stopping on one page, then she opens her eyes and reads it and hopefully it helps her in some way. (And she says it has:)

You can really expand on this, and use various pens, and different types of beautiful books/journals,etc.. for adults or children..and theme and tailor it with different types of sayings/questions for any age-group, gender, etc......(ie: christian-slanted ones for a christian friend, etc..).

Hope this idea helps someone and it makes a GREAT, inexpensive, from-the-heart gift:)

If anyone wishes me to make one, let me know!

What a nice idea, Silverlyn! Sounds like a fun project!

I like the idea of adding affirmations, wise quotes, maybe even a few pictures cut from magazines, etc.

Thanks, Debra..and exactly, I've also added affirmations, too.

I oughta do a just-pictures one, too...pictures of house I want, my ideal kitchen, car for my daughter, etc.etc...

You can do SO many things with it:)

Actually: Speaking of making a book of pictures...I've done that, too.

I filled it with pictures of things I want, trips I want to take...even cut out pictures of me and my family's heads and bodies and taped them in the pictures (with the stove, or on the bed or in Ireland,etc..).

I call it my Book of Realities. And I need to use that thing more.....

btw:after taping the appliance-pictures.... exactly THREE WEEKS LATER...I got ALL of the brand new, EXACT appliances that I'd been wanting for years...(Washer/Dryer, Stove)...

Cool:)

What a neat idea!

If only I had art skills and could draw my own. Just one more reason I wish I could draw. Seriously, I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life.

Promise: I can't draw, either! But you could pic actual photos, pics from magazines, stuff like that:)

This is a wonderful concept! I think I might set up an exchange of these with some local friends.

Hey folks, learning to draw is not impossible! It's hand & eye coordination. If you have the desire, and are willing to put in some practice, you CAN learn to draw, just as you can learn to play a musical instrument or knit. Chiefly, you need the desire to do it.
