I recently discovered Mahjongg cards/tiles can be used for divination aswell. I have Mahjongg tiles and these differ quite a bit from the cards. Does anyone use mahjongg for divination, had a reading done for them or know of any related websites?

I thought about this connection as well although I've never heard of mah-jong being used for divination. I thought about the bamboo being like wands, the circles as pentacles... but it's a lot more abstract, like the I Ching. Easier to shuffle though (and more fun :P) I wish I could help you out here, I'm a bit curious myself.

I don't have the cards myself, but my friend owns a set. We use them often and they are excellent - go for it!

In 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot & Fortune Telling" the authors briefly mention you can use MahJogg tiles as tarot cards, but they don't telll you how! If you find a simple way to explain this, please tell us!

Hi

Thank God, I do at least know there is *someone* out there wondering about Mah Jong, even if I am 5 years late.

For how to use Mah Jongg for divination, try here -

and a beautiful and more detailed page on the meanings -

This is an area that I'm looking to learn more about, but finding information on the internet that goes into enough detail to get your teeth into, and reads like someone actually knows what they're talking about, is well nigh impossible.

I know that the game really isn't all that old. It was invented in the late 19th century I believe, and even then it was used as a game before it was used as an oracle.

It got my attention because it, like Tarot, is jointly a game and a divination tool. I don't know of anything else you can say that about. Mah Jong also more or less has "majors" (the seasons, flowers, compass points, dragons)and "suits" (bamboos, discs, characters).

Anyway, if anyone wants to get their heads together with me on this one, I'd love to hear from you.
