Horary Readings Round 7 - Questions

YDM42

Minderwiz, I sure would like to sit. I have been in an friendship with a guy for about 3 years now, but it has not moved in the direction I wanted it to go. BY that I mean that the things i wanted and need out of the relationship continue to escape me. Mainly because of financial issues, lack of material stability, and lack of commitment to any one goal. Yet this person remains a part of my life- and that seems to stop me from fully committing to anyone else.

The question is: Is this something that will eventually be worth my time as in a mutually fulfilling relationship on some level. or is it something I really need to work hard on ridding from my life. (..as in a spiritual lesson on letting go and moving on)?

Hope the question is clear enough.

Hello Minderwiz,

Id like to sit. This is my first time asking so please guide me if necessary.

Id like to know if I will be in a positive romantic relationship this year. For the last 10 years I have cut my self off to any possibilities. I am now ready to live life and be in a loving relationship that is for my highest and greatest good.

Thank you,
Ziev

Minderwiz, I have a student's question. :) Am I correct assuming that Lilly's reception definition about significators being in each other's dignities stretches to planet A being in the house (sign) of planet B while planet B is in the sign of planet A's exaltation? It's not as strong as being in each other's sign as I remember Lilly writing but exaltation is a dignity or not? I got a bit confused regarding exaltation.

I take it as planet B receives planet A in its own sign so things are on the terms of planet B but at the same time planet B exalts planet A, likes her, so probably will receive her well. Heroes here are Jupiter and Mercury again since Mercury entered Cancer where Jupiter is exalted while Jupiter is still in Gemini.

P.S. I found an article on Skyscript and it seems I remember correctly - it is a mutual reception. Only, I'd change the "Mercury exalts Jupiter" to what I found more appropriate in this same article - that Mercury's attention will be gladly accepted as Jupiter is happy in this sign, so Mercury's attention has a pleasant flavour to Jupiter, so to speak. :) However, in case of no direct aspect between significators, I'll be curious to see how it works.

I now have three readings pending,

Noni - the question is sorted and she will shortly post it.
YDM42
Ziev

I'll read for them in that order as Noni asked first and I've just agreed her question , then YDM42 and Ziev.

OK, here goes:

Dignities

For Lilly and virtually all other traditional Astrologers, there are four levels of Essential Dignity.

Domicile (now referred to as Sign Rulership)
Exaltation
Triplicity Rulership
Terms (or Bounds)
Face (or Decan)

Lilly followed Medieval Astrology in listing them in that order (his order of strength). He also used the popular medieval scoring of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 in for these dignities, starting with Domicile=5.

You will find that these dignities are not always listed in this order and in Hellenisitic and early Medieval Astrology, Terms/Bounds seem to be given much more weight and Triplicity less weight.

Mutual Reception

Is when planet A is in any one (or more) of the dignities of planet B and planet B is in any one (or more) of the dignities of planet A. Medieval writers such as Bonatti, seem to have required that not only this condition held but also that there was an aspect between the two planets.

However on page 112 of the original print of Christian Astrology Lilly defines mutual reception by domicle and says:

...reception of these two planets by houses (domiciles) ....certainly is the strongest and best of all receptions'

He then mentions the other possibilities (exaltation, triplicity, terms and Face) and goes on to say

....so many times when the effecting of the matter is denied by the Aspects or where the significators have no Aspect to each other, or when it seems very doubtful what is promised by the (square) or (opposition), yet if mutual reception happen between the principal significators, the thing is brought to pass and that without any great trouble and suddenly to the content of both parties'

This seems to imply that even a Face/Face mutual reception can be taken without aspect as indicating a successful outcome. But nowhere does he seem to actually put that into practice, especially as elsewhere he describes the dignity of Face as:

'A planet having little or no dignity but by being in his decante or face is almost like a man ready to be turned out of doors, having much ado to maintain himself in credit and reputation'

I can't see him really meaning that a Face/Face or even any mutual reception involving Face is going to effect a matter without an aspect or overcome a square or opposition. And indeed the only case I can find where he allows a matter to be effected on the basis of mutual reception without an aspect is a Domicile/Domicile one.

So I am very careful not to allow a matter on a mutual reception that is not Domicle/Exaltation or Exaltation/Exaltation without an aspect - otherwise a very large proportion of your questions would get a positive answer even in the face of quite strong evidence to the contrary. Incidently, I'd be quite cagey of allowing the Exaltation/Exaltation one without an aspect unless it fitted into a clear positive pattern.

Question

Hi Minderwiz

Thank you! for your response and offering to read.
My question is, will I get married in 1-2yrs time with a man of my choice.
Its a really important question to me...so really looking forward to the reading :)

Cheers!

Yes, thank you, Minderwiz. In the skies now it's domicile and exaltaton, not domicile/domicile or exaltation/exaltation, so it's a mixed reception. Jupiter in Mercury's sign (house) and Mercury in Jupiter's exaltation. There are other aspects in the chart, of course, there is some development but not an aspect between the significators as Mercury separated from Jupiter already (although I checked again Lilly's orbit allowances and Mercury would be still considered in orbit of conjunction at the time I cast the chart). I'm not sure how to treat this mixed reception, so I guess I have to wait although this is not really predictive but guessing astrology. LOL

Chances of my marriage ? and will it be here or abroad?

Also my career where is it headed?

Minderwiz, I wanted to share some thoughts on a chart we discussed at the beginning of the year:

To me the trine between Venus and Jupiter was an enigma as I wasn't planning to write another letter (and haven't) nor did I have any other way at the time to communicate with the man. I think in this case Frawley was correct, I don't see Lilly's explanations fitting here though taking into cosnideration the fifth house for communication. I think the trine between Venus and Jupiter signified *new communication*, the new way I found, me having another go but not with the same letter. This is the only explanation that makes sense and I think it's useful as I see sometimes we may need to look further in a horary or just be open for more options... Kind of. :)

Well the Domicile/Exaltation falls between the two cases I mentioned as possibilities of perfection from mutual reception alone...it's one step down from that 'best' situation.

I'd be tempted to use it but remember though that Lilly says 'many times', not 'always' so check for contrary evidence.
