Wildwood Tarot

There is another half, the third half...those of us who never bought it at all.

<raises hand> I belong to the third half! I didn't buy my copy - it was a valued gift.

I never did the Greenwood thing and I am pretty-well colourblind as far as people's skin colour is concerned - until I reprised this thread a moment ago, I didn't realise it didn't feature darker people. It just seemed to be full of humans to me.

My relationship with this deck gets better. Every so often I put it away, but every time I pull it out, I wonder afresh why I did. It is a lush pleasure in my life.

A shaman is a practising specialist. But there *is* such a thing as a shamanic culture: a culture where most people aren't shamans, but they have, honour and use shamans in their communities.

Good point well made AJ, although I now think our maths doesn't quite add up! :D

However it has definitely been a well discussed deck, and of course there were the tarotistas's who felt the deck was disrespectful and not in good tatse to it's mother deck the Greenwood and Chesca Potter the artist and co-creator of the deck.
No matter how many times you say that it isn't the whole Greenwood marketing ploy (and it was the creaters who shot themselves in the foot on this one), people tend to think that - yes - again - people must be offended because of the Greenwood thing.

I think AJ was right not to buy it. I wish I hadn't but I suppose curiosity got the better of me, as it invariably does. Still, it seems to be doing well enough for itself...

The Wildwood is the first deck I've ever owned. I ran across it on happenstance and hadn't heard of the Greenwood deck until afterward but I must say I'm eager to look into that one now, too. Although it's a bit difficult for me to parse out the meaning of some of the cards based on the descriptions in the book, I am thoroughly enjoying learning my way around the Wildwood deck. The few personal, very small readings I've done so far have been very poignant and surprisingly accurate. Not to mention the gorgeous artwork, as noted further up the page. :)

My thoughts are similiar to yours. I stumbled across the Wildwood deck and instantly felt a connection with it. I hadn't heard about the Greenwood deck before and after reading comments on this site I'm curious to see that deck too but I signed up because i want to know more about the Wildwood deck and others opinions. This deck has drawn me back in to reading the Tarot cards and I am enjoying the readings and my findings. :)

I don't wish I hadn't bought it. I like it - as a deck. I don't think it's GREAT; it isn't in the same class as many others I own - but I like it.

But I am still mad as hell about the marketing ploy, and I kind of wish the people responsible hadn't got any money out of it all. I was not only offended, but I was also warning a few people who actually thought - from the blurb - that it WAS a reissued Greenwood and almost ordered it till I said check the images first; it's a nice deck, but Greenwood (or even son of Greenwood) it is NOT.

I also wonder what Chesca makes of it all, if she's watching. I hope she is laughing - but who knows....

Mi-Shell said she has been in contact with her and has Potter's blessing and permission on making our own copies of the Greenwood. I don't know if that conversation was in person or in spirit, but if you click on Mi-Shell's username you will find the hi-res scans.

Nuff said about that on this thread. Just saying.

second edition Wildwood Tarot

Has anyone seen the new updated edition with the tree of life on the back? It's not available at BD yet. They only sell the version from 2011 from the US as well as the UK And the same thing in Holland
I have on other question: does anyone know if there is a difference between the quality of the 2011 edition of the Sterling Publishing Co Inc (US) and Connections Book Publishing Ltd ( UK). I know the card stock isn't that great, Its more about difference in colour and cutting quality. Thanks !

I really love this deck, but I had to work with it a bit to really like it. I took it to the local ogham circle Sunday to christen it. This deck has opened me up spiritually and it has induced very vivid dreams. Great deck!!! The new backs are awesome.

I love to look at these pagan cards for their beauty alone, if nothing else. I get somewhat confused that they don't follow the usual Waite/Crowley decks, but maybe that's not such a bad thing...tarot outside the box, STS. The backs aren't that great, but I'm not going to buy another of the same deck. I already have more than I need.

I was skeptical about this deck for a long time, thought the art looked nice, but wasn't 100% convinced I would like reading it. I also was not into tarot yet at the time it was published, so didn't hear all the hype and controversy about it. Anyway, I recently gave in and bought a copy, but when it arrived I was disappointed to see not only were some of the cards cut crooked, but I had two copies of the Magician (or the Shaman I think it was called in this deck?) and I was missing one of the other majors, can't remember which now. I've heard of this happening, but it's never happened to me before. The cardstock seemed really cheap too, and the cards were all dusty and dirty feeling. So long story short I sent it back and got a refund.

I did glance through the cards though, and do a quick reading or two with them, mostly to decided if I wanted a refund or a replacement. I decided it wasn't really my thing. A lot of the cards didn't really speak to me, and I'm super not into the animals as the courts. Not that I don't like animals, but at least those ones, the super specific species ones, didn't have any associations for me. It was very "hippie" feeling, as I believe someone else said; a little too environmentalist for my taste. So I didn't get a replacement, although I do think the art is nice.
