Decks v. Deck apps

ilweran

I've barely touched my tarot decks since I had my little boy - coming up to two years now - but recently have started to really want to get some of myself back as all I seem to do is work and look after him. Getting physical decks out would be asking for trouble so I've turned to apps and have 7 of them on my tablet now and spent some time yesterday getting the Greenwood (I'm going to have to rescan it at some point to get higher res images, though if I have the time to do that I probably have the time to not need to!) into the Uni Tarot app.

The card of the day widgets look great - Tarot of Trees, Tarot of the Hidden Realm, Baroque Bohemian Cats, Wild Unknown, Paulina and the Greenwood (sadly Legacy of the Divine doesn't have a widget). I've done a few practice spreads on the different apps to get the hang of the different apps and it all seems good.

Of course I'd like to have more opportunity to use physical decks, but this is a great alternative until my little boy is in his own room & bed and I have my evenings back. It's also great in work and on train/car journeys.

I didn't know one could get a Greenwood app! :bugeyed: so there is another good reason to get an app - you can get decks that are OOP, and forever out of reach financially (for the paper deck).

Padma, (my tablet keeps wanting to call you Panda, lol) I'm almost certain there's no Greenwood app though I'd love to be wrong. I think the pp was referring to an app that allows you to scan images of owned decks onto it so you can use your favourite deck digitally.

Yes, the Uni Tarot app lets you import decks that you've scanned. You can also put in your own meanings so I also copied and pasted the meanings that were on Chesca Potters old site. It was a bit of effort but worth it I think.

I just came across a series of apps using some fabulous decks...Golden Visconti-Sforza, Noblet, and the Vachetta among others. The VS had been on my list for awhile so it's wonderful to be able to see it all illuminated on the screen.

Love for the Apps

I love tarot apps! I find they don't replace the physical cards for me - I connect to each in slightly different ways. I don't use apps for long readings or to read cards for others (unless a friend has a 1 card question and I'm on the go sans deck), but I love using them for single card draws for myself. I have a bunch of Fool's Dog apps on my phone now, and I'll draw single cards from them before bed as a way to wind down and meditate. I love the convenience, and I like that you can get an affordable and complete preview of a deck before committing to buying the physical copy. I find that for single card draws, the apps are always relevant and on-point. The journal feature on the Fool's Dog apps is great. You can jot notes down really quick on any card you draw. For longer readings, though, I have to use a physical deck, feel the shuffle, and see everything laid out in front of me.

I like tarot apps too, I have a couple on my tablet but mostly use them on my phone. The Illuminati tarot and Wildwood are favourites and I have dailies from the Illuminati. I don't spend as much time with my physical decks as I would like, but always have my phone with me so I feel like I have a deck with me too, I feel like I have a connection with the decks mainly because of the phone.

 oops! lol! I misread - thanks for letting me know!

I am really enjoying the card of the day, and the yes/no feature, on the Wild Unknown deck. :) and I find my Lennie app very accurate, too!

What Barleywine said in post #2, word for word. My hands need to know when to stop shuffling, after I feel that the cards have heard my silent question. And I like to know how compliant the deck is feeling that day, by how it handles. The computer shuffles I've tried on websites feel like fortune telling machines, and the cards that come up never look like the card patterns I get. But we don't have cell service here with which to use apps, so moot point.

Unfortunately I can't use any app, unless someone has a tip for windows phones.
