Introvert

How interesting that all of us introverts have replied to this thread, the extraverts must be busy out there ruling the world

They're probably hanging back shyly, whilst you introverts pipe up and say your piece proudly in a public forum. :)

I am definitely an extrovert (not necessarily a huge fan of Myers Briggs either, but I always get ENFP) but I don't really recognize myself in the descriptions of extroverts in this thread. I don't think of needing constant stimulation or not being able to be alone as an introvert vs. extrovert thing so much as a measure of how comfortable you are with yourself. It also doesn't have anything to do with comparing yourself to others, I would say. Much like the introverted OP, I prefer to judge my successes and failures according to my own metric, as opposed to using others as a measuring stick. On the other hand, I've known many introverts who were very competitive (which isn't a bad thing unless it's making you unhappy). I enjoy the company of others and am energized by it, but I also know I need balance in my life. Just like introverts don't always want to be alone, extroverts don't always want to be around people. I really enjoy my time alone; it's the best time for reading or writing!

I don't read for other people, or at least I haven't so far. I consider it mostly as a tool for self-reflection, and I would go so far as to say I am fairly private about it. I recently shared it with my husband, but that's only because I showed him a couple of images of the cards online, and immediately realized based on his comments that he was a natural (moreso than I am, and yes, he's more of an introvert too - hmm, maybe you guys are onto something here). I would say my extroversion is basically irrelevant to the way I use Tarot cards, but I can see how it would play more of a part for others.

Hi John, you might be interested in the long-running poll we have going for members here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=12143

I'm an introvert as well (INFJ). :)

Just checked the thread again, and was surprised I was the very last one to comment on it a few months ago.

Hmmm I again looked at the stats and it was pretty astonishing. There are 16 MBTI types, 8 of these are Introverts while 8 are Extroverts. And in the poll, the top 7 choices were all Introverts, with ISTP occupying the 11-12th place with ENTP. The whole top 4 were sweeped by Introvert Intuitives, while the very next three places were by Introvert Sensors.

The most mind-boggling fact was that of those who answered the poll, a whopping 87+ % tested as Introverts. Studies show that introverts make up about a quarter to half of the population. The 1985 MBTI manual posted a 75% E to 25% I ratio. The more recent 1998 manual pegged this at an almost even 50-50.

To put this in perspective- the 1998 MBTI concludes that about 4 out of 8 people are introverts. But for the tarotists here who answered the survey, this rises to 7 out of 8. Btw the sample size for the 1998 MBTI is 3009, while that for our poll is 571, so I don't think this is negligible. There might be questions about how randomized our sample of test-takers are relative to the members of these forums, and relative to all the Tarotists in the general population. If a statistician (who's also into Tarot- wow) would make his way here, I think he might be able to provide a more nuanced analysis.

I'm an INTJa. I've never seen so many INTJs in one place before! We are supposed to be a fairly rare type.
