Initiatory Tarot of the Golden Dawn

Freddie

Greetings All,

Anyone else here still like/use this one? I find that this deck and 'Tarot of the Angels' have became my absolute favourite Lo Scarabeo packs (Tzar being my other fav) . I love the art and colouring of this one and I find the women to be attractive yet strong and intelligent. To me the women don't look all pumped up and fake like in the 'Universal Wirth' deck. I understand why some would not like this deck (I also respect their opinions) and I am very careful about who I use this deck with.

I wonder how the artist made the reds and pinks so vivid and I like how it ties into the Golden Dawn Christian Hermetic teachings (not much of this deck is based on A. Crowley teachings, it does however borrow from his Thoth Tarot teachings). The fire on the Wands court cards is so electric and it shows how much this deck really transcends the genre of comic art. I also like those children on the Sun card and the fact it has wolves in some of the images. I personally have never seen any other magical/occultic pack that can compare to this one.

Fast forward a couple of years and this is definitely a deck I would never get rid of. I should use it more (how many times do I say that?) I have a soft spot for it and genuinely do think of this as the best ever comic book deck. If someone were to get one comic book deck in their life, for their collection, I would recommend this one without hesitation :D. It has so much energy and brute force.

However, I find it hard having serious tarot symbolism juxtaposed with bouncing comic book boobies. Maybe that's just a prejudice of mine. I'm working on it still. I don't take it as seriously as perhaps I should but it doesn't really do itself any favours in that sense.

But I do like it. There are cards I love, love, LOVE in this deck; 2 of Cups, Wheel of Fortune and - yes - the Wands Courts (among others).

Oh and the backs, such splendid backs!

This is good to hear, I ordered it yesterday, today I saw the thread pop up. I did debate about ordering it because it apeared to be ''gimicy'' as opposed to other G.D. decks I own (G.D. Magical tarot, Hermetic, Thoth ect...)
(when I saw it on sites around online, I didn't pay much mind to it because of this)

Honestly, I most likely woulden't have ordered it. The only reason I chanced it, and brought it on a whim - was because I got a small paypal refund on Ebay I haden't expected
- and it was *cheaper than other LoS decks she had on her Ebay store that are on my current to-get list. I had a little money left over, after the 2012: Tarot of Ascention by LoS that I also ordered from the same seller.

Hearing this and other positve/interesting things in the thread are reassuring. :)

I have the Madras edition and I love it. It's by no means a perfect deck but I feel it gets too much flack for small things.

Onyx

Yeah the deck isn't perfect but there are some cards that are really quite good and it an interesting take on the Golden Dawn.

I don't use it much but I will never get rid of it either.

Queen of Disks

I like it very much but I haven't used it in a while.

Modified for Arcanum game smaller, different aces, some cards flipped, sm

I like the game version, made for family play. The World and aces differ a bit and I want to copy my two alternative Strength and Justice cards and cut down my color copies to use with the game version. I like te small differences, pretty backs. In a two card draw, there is much activity and I am refreshing myself with its vitality, great colors. Am using my LWB from ITGD larger deck.

I had not really replaced a Luddy Lescott deck illustrated by the same artist, so have just found a replacement and will check later to see if the game version has lively colors and Golden Dawnish imagery for daily readings.

Oddly I am thinking of the Disneyesque Princess from Mars movie genre.

I will be comparing which cards have been flipped and the different ilustrations.

The game should be available later on other Amazon sites...I bought from Amazon.It....curious how I just wanted a deck like this niw and,it came in a game.

An odd renewal and a new Spring affection.

Spectre Made Flesh

I'm quite drawn to the artwork of The Initiatory Tarot of the Golden Dawn, and was wondering if it'd be worth getting even though I'm not particularly into the Golden Dawn 'rules'. In other words, those of you who have this deck - is it workable as a reading deck based on the art and my own interpretative style without necessarily knowing or caring about the 'GD christian hermetic' stuff?
(I originally learned on the Rider Waite, and have Waite's book The Pictorial Key.. etc. but generally prefer to go by number/suit/element and picture than astrology, kabbalah or whatever).

Arnie

It's basically 90% RWS symbolism with some Golden Dawn sprinkled on top. I don't think you'd have any problem if you have a good grasp on RWS. It's a good reading deck if you don't mind the artwork.

I took a close look at this on albideuter and now I damn ye all as a pack o' scurvy enablers! :D It's rather inspired comic-book art, for sure.
