Oh! Just seen it. Congratulations to the Gilded and the Golden - I thought it would be a closely-run thing between those two :-)
Nice to see the Fey still doing well - and the Sakki Sakki and...
well it's a great list for sure. But the TdM fans may be a little disappointed? Next year perhaps?

Thanks - and believe me, we (Alex too) are quite taken-aback and very grateful. You know, I hoped Tarot of Prague would still be there somewhere (I actually thought it would only just get in this year if it did get in at all) but I didn't expect Baroque Bohemian Cats to make it - just because as a cat tarot it's so "love it or hate it" and I thought it would be too specific. I had told Alex "No way" - we love the deck but we know it's not for everyone. So we're both surprised -and definitely purring!
We'll say special thanks to our two cat-girls tonight - they both modelled beautifully!

Congratulations Baba. You have worked hard and it shows. Actually, the more I read with your decks the more I like them. They are destined to be masterpieces.
Robin Wood seems to be on the list since 1999. What a popular deck.

I must say I'm stunned to see the Sakki-Sakki on this list!
and just when i got back to the book two days ago!!!! what an omen!!!!
I must say again, that baba had a great influence on me in actually getting the deck "out there". Definitely a role model to me, doing things with no compromises, following one's truth...
There seems to be a place for everything, even if not on the list. It's great to see old favorites remaining so, and new things coming out, whether from independant publishers or the big ones.
A real melting pot that is–so unique to our Tarot world!
Thanks to everyone that voted for the sakki-sakki :) :) :)

Thank you all very much. This is the cream on top of an already satisfying and enjoyable "Gilded" project.
The use of the word "Favorite" deck for the year is apt. It does not suggest or claim that the deck is better than any other, just favorite ...... for now. Much as my daughter's one eyed rag doll is her favorite, and remains so even to this day, despite competition from walking talking and more expensive ones that came later. An analogy to the tarot world that helps explain the endurance of the "classics" such as RW, Thoth, etc. which as discussed on other threads remain constant contenders for "favorites" despite their age, as for many they were their introduction to the world of tarot and will always enjoy the benefit of familiarity and sentimentaility. However at the risk of offending some I would also suggest that while they merit recognition for their significant contribution to the tarot, these decks also enjoyed the benefit of having had the stage pretty much to themeselves until the last decade or so, at least compared to todays environment where there are thousands of decks available to satisfy every taste and preference. Its within this context that for any deck to be considered one of the favorites is a challenge indeed, and will be increasingly difficult to remain one (kudos to the Tarot of Prague). Some of the more traditional of the tarot community feel that their prefered decks from the past are the standards and tend to dismiss newer decks as pretenders to the throne. That is their opinion and right. Fortunately (in my opinion, and to my benefit, for this year at least) the majority embrace new versions, interpretations, styles and themes, which prevents stagnation and permits the genre to evolve into the diverse richness which is todays tarot environment. Future generations will surely look back on this period as being a golden age of tarot, and I am honored to be a small part of it.
