I've looked at this deck before and it did nothing for me. I have no idea why but now I kind of like it (shrug)
Any of you that have it - what do you think? I've heard the book isn't too good, but what about the actual deck????

I have this deck, and I love it. The cards are based on Celtic Paganism, and don't have the traditional Christian archetypes. The book that goes with is is ok, but doesn't give reverse meanings. I still like the book though.

it's very pretty, but i find the symbolism a bit sparse.
some of the what i consider 'key' cards are kinda cool though. the Death card has the dragon shedding it's skin, and the Devil is in chains (self imposed?).
but i'm not a big D.J. Conway fan.

Hi,
I have it in my collection for collector's sake and as I wanted sth with dragons but in my opinion the Shapeshifter deck is far better in artwork and symbolism.

Hiya! I do have this deck ... I mean what kind of dragon buff would I be without it ~giggle/snicker/snort~. I have not used this deck YET (but will some day). As for the book that acompanies the deck I have not read it but I did read "Dancing With Dragons" by D.J. Conway which I loved. Having read that book the deck took on a special meaning for me as I felt that I knew more about what the different colors and types of dragons symbolized. That combined with its pagan attributes made it a "have to have" deck for me. Based on what someone said about the book not being so good, if you get the deck I highly recommend that you get "Dancing With Dragons."

interesting, i have both of these and much prefer the celtic dragon. the shapeshifter was a real disappointment for me, but i kinda like the celtic dragon. it's, ummm, cute.
i read the book, but it must have not made much of an impression on me - i can't remember anything specific from it. i don't use the deck very much, but i do like it as part of my collection.
luv and light,

Agree with Nexy that I think the Celtic Dragon was better, but then I s'pose its personal preference.
Like Greenman, I'm also not a Conway fan. I find her books rather.... Samey... Y'know, what she writes has already been written before... And I didn't like her Celtic Magick or Norse Magick book. They don't tell you anything about the Celts and their relgion, or the Norse and their religion! She just takes Wicca, and takes the Celtic/Norse Gods, and puts them into the ritual, ignoring lots of the Norse or Celtic customs.... Ah well. Enough Conway book-bashing!
The Celtic Dragon Tarot was one I used for about 6 months. I love the artwork, and am quite fond of all of Lisa Hunt's work (Except for her pictures in 'Erotic Dreaming with the Goddess' and 'Making Love to the Goddess' by Sirona Knight.... Warning: Don't read these books! Its like Pagan Mills & Boon! Ugh! And the pictures leave alot to be desired, I mean, do these people in her drawings not have joints in their legs?!!!) Anyway, back onto the subject again.... The Celtic Dragon Tarot tens to have symbolism only in the rocks... You'll see plenty of rocks in the cards themselves, and in those rocks are symbols such as spirals or faces.... Its not very useful at all. But the actual pictures do capture most of the essence of the cards' meanings well. Conway has used Fire as Swords and Wands as Air, which you may have a problem with if you prefer it the other way round.
The main problem I had with this deck is that the pictures are so fine and detailed, that they don't strike you like say, the Rider Waite, Thoth, Robin Wood, etc would.... Youi don't get the full effect of the Mother archtype from the Celtic Dragon Empress, whilst you might do with the Robin Wood one. You don't quite get the feeling of Movement from the CD Chariot, whilst you would with others....
Anyway, I think that's all I have to say about that!
Hope it helps!
