Again, whilst I was surfing, I found this cool deck.
http://www.tarotpassages.com/animalpg.htm
Some of the cards are hilarious, like the Chariot, Tower, 10 of wands, Sun, 9 of Wands, and 10 of Cups, but they still al lhave really deep meaning. This really is an excellent deck.

Have you seen the Fool? :D
And the Magician is just lovely!
That Emperor is so royal!
And those Pandas offering sweets to each other no the Lovers!
Actually, I don't thing I could read it, though... and that Empress does puzzle me a bit... ;)

i want this deck just for the tower card! it reminds me of my favorite birthday card i've ever received. the front is almost identical to the tower card except this cat is white. the caption reads,"that night the city burned." inside the caption reads,"happy birthday from me and the cat from hell." i call my twins the "cats from hell". you'd have to live here to truly appreciate what i'm saying. ;)
as to the peacock for the high priestess, perhaps the author of the deck doesn't know it's a male not a female.

~Giggles~ now that would be something *LOL*. It is funny how most female birds are pretty plain and not as flashy as their male counterparts. I do think the deck is cute and I once received that same b-day card you are talking about *ROFLMAO* it is histerical.

The male peacock is used in the HPS because that bird was sacred to Juno/Hera, who is usually representative of the HPS, and pictured in many of the older, pre-Golden Dawn decks. (1JJ Swiss is a good example of this.)
It appears that male birds are flashier than females cuz they're the ones who have to do all the attracting, when searching for a mate. The females are attracted to the colourful plumage, and the more colour, the more likely the male is to get a mate! Seems humans do this too! (Initially, when we look at somebody for the first time, if they are very attractive we would generally like them or want to learn more about them, than if they were pit-ugly! Although, there has been various studies done which show that people are generally attracted to people of smiliar physical attractiveness to themselves. This could be due to the fact that we are scared of rejection by somebody much more attractive than us. But the similarity can be intellectual too: A very physically attractive woman may be attracted to a very intellignt man, and vice versa, as with Marilyn Monroe and her husband. This could be for genetic reasons... Who knows?)
There, just a bit of an interesting side-track!

Kiama thanks for the info on the Peacock.
As for your observations on the why the male birds are flashier than the female birds I do not believe that to be a mystery or a secret. What I find interesting, since you brought up the human race, is that we as women are the ones who are most often trying to make ourselves up (make-up, painted fingernails, hair styles, etc) yet in the animal kingdom it is the males that play this role.

Could be a throw-back from earlier times, y'know, like the Medieval onwards, when it was the men who chose the woman they wanted to marry. The prettier you were, the more chance you had of getting a decent, possibly rich husband.

I wouldn't say that males are flashier throughout the whole animal kingdom, but certainly with birds, I guess. I think it all depends on the mating rituals of that particular species.
And the whole women dressing up more than males is probably more so a societal/cultural feature (think of the male flamboyance of past eras).
Makes me think of that song- the female of the species is more deadly than the male....

I think it's also got something to do with the fact that the female bird's usually the one that has got to incubate the eggs. She's got to be a drab colour to be camoflaged, coz sitting there all day she's prime tucker for anything prowling round.
Don't know if I'd agree with the human thing though - I'm sure my bf has more toiletry products than I do!
