Dante tarot & Oracle of the Dreamtime On their way to me

I just ordered from Amazon the Dante Tarot and the Oracle of the Dreamtime! Hope to get them soon.

These are the first new cards I have been drawn to in over 5 years. As some of you may recall, I have had some (well, ok, loads) of trouble reading for myself lately (but not for others), so I figure maybe a new deck will charge things up...or maybe the oracle will be more helpful.

I also ordered "Tarot for a new Generation", on the recommendation of LouiQ. Interestingly enough, it was not available on a major Canadian booksellers site. Hopefully, this won't cause a problem at Customs.

And, for any Canadians who might be wondering about ordering from Amazon vs. Chapters/Indigo - Oracle of the Dreamtime was still cheaper with the exchange rate thru Amazon then ordering in Canadian funds thru Chapters. This should not surprise me, but it does.

You will have to let me know what Oracle of the Dreamtime is like...
Particularly, if the artist is actually aboriginal and also what people he/she is from?

I'd be really interested, thanks :)

Kayne, if you go to the deck review section and read Petrina's review of this deck, you may find your answers.

I have no way to validate it, of course. Now that my step-mom has died (she was active in aborginal education initiatives in NSW), I can't find out of the author really is involved in teaching aboriginal issues or not.....

One deck that I am salavating over is the Australian Dreamtime Tarot (again, see images on web site). Unfortunately, it is out-of print and when it shows up on tarot garden's web site, it is often auctioned for over $100 US. Too rich for my blood! But beautiful images....

Hope you enjoy your new decks, Amyel!

Yes, I hope so, too. The deck I read with is the first deck I was ever given, and while I still love it, there is no doubt my interests have changed significantly since 1987! (My first deck was the Mythic Tarot).

My undergrad thesis was on contemporary Aboriginal art, so anything Aboriginal artsy usually speaks to me. Sadly, I can not afford any more original oils at present - and truthfully don't have much unadorned wall space left - so I will take what I can find....I am looking forward to the Oracle - but conservatively, so I won;t be disappointed if they don"t "work" for me....and the Dante deck...well, *I* think it is just beautiful!

Funny, many, many years ago, my best friend (who still lives ib Calgary) said to me: "Why don't you collect Tarot decks, Amy" but at the time, I, too, was a poor uni student and didn't have much extra cash....

Since moving to Ottawa, it's just a question, really, of finding a store that I feel comfortabel in. You see, I must touch & hold before I buy. I have the same problem with books - Must.Touch.Books. Must.Read.Books Only then can I buy!

I can feel the Dark side beckoning.....

P.S. "Pinnoccio" was one of my favorite Disney movies!

I very recently acquired the Oracle of the Dreamtime; I haven't read with it yet (and I'm a bit nervous about the prospect, as I'm unaccustomed to oracle decks). The art is very striking and alive, full of light. I am green with envy about your Dante deck - I'm drooling for that one!

Amyel,
I have the Oracle of the Dreamtime and it is my most favorite non-tarot deck! The readings are very accurate for me. I loved learning the stories and legends that each card represents. The round cards add such variety to the readings. I like the little hand picture at the top of each card. As the cards rotate, the hands can be reaching in different directions. Sometimes the hands on two different cards are reaching for each other, sometimes they reach away from each other, and sometimes two hands can both be reaching for a third card. This really helps with defining the relationship between the cards. The artwork is wonderful and the Earth tone colors connect well with this Earth-based culture. The only complaint I have about this deck is the cardstock is a bit too thin. Please let us know what you think about these cards after you have a chance to look them over.

Well, came home from work Wednesday after a very loooooonnnng day (9 hours work followed by a 3 hour work meeting, followed by a mandatory "let's all discuss the meeting" dinner...) to find a box from Amazon.

Containing the "Tarot for a New Generation" book & the "Oracle of the Dreamtime set (Dante on it's way).

I've had a few days to review the Oracle, and I really, really like it! I think it will be a long time before I am able to read for others with it, but sitting in bed last night, just looking at the cards, I tried an impromptu 4 card spread, not really thinking of anything in particular - and I was stunned at it's accuracy!

I've spent less time with the New Gen book, but I like the way the author describes the cards. Nice.

Also, I have the Tarot 2002 Calendar, and am now drooling over "Shining Tribe" tarot (April uses Shining Tribe's Empress as the month's image)....trying very hard not to buy, when I have just received one and have another on it's way.....

P.S., Kayne, I have sent you an email about the artwork and the artists...way too long to go into here..
