Greenwood Tarot

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone uses the Greenwood Tarot. The major arcana cards are unnumbered and the names of some of the majors have been changed but I think it is pretty easy to understand which card is which. I do not like the book that comes with the deck. The book changes the order of the majors in a way that doesn't make sense to me at all. I think the images are great! The colors are soft and very soothing to me. The pictures are somewhat based on RW on some of the cards but not on all the cards. This deck seems to have a lot of pagan symbolism. I'm not all that familiar with some of the concepts of the greenman, etc., so I can't comment much about that. Anyway, I like the art and think it is a good deck. Anyone else have this deck? What are your opinions?

Hi raenne,

Please let me know where you found that deck!! I've been looking for ages for it and do not get it here in Germany!

Hi catlin,

the greenwood tarot is sold out on amazon.fr too. It has been a huge success obviously and I don't know where you can get it from anymore. I had the opportunity to buy it from amazon.fr, I didn't catch my chance then and now I somehow regret it.

Have a nice spring !

The Greenwood Tarot is currently listed as available for purchase through R. Somerville (from France):

http://www.playingcardsales.co.uk/nbtar/index.htm

From the menu, click "Choose Cards", then click "Type", then click "Tarot for fortune-telling - A-G".

I was fortunate enough to recently get the Greenwood Tarot on an eBay auction. It is a beautiful deck, and comes with a 118 page book.

Hello!

I have had the Greenwood Tarot for some time, and I must admit that it's one of my favourites. The pictures are beautiful, and the fact that there's a Sheela Na Gig on the 8 of cups would be enough to justify me having it! I particularly like the replacement of the court cards with animals, it makes them much easier to read, well for me anyway!

The numbering of cards doesn't bother me too much. The numbering doesn't really matter in the context of a reading. When it comes to meditation upon the cards, and working with them esoterically, the numbering pattern actually makes sense.

These cards are set in a different frame of reference than the Rider Waite, and so it makes sense to repattern the cards in context of the subject matter. Who's to say the Rider Waite method is the definitive way of ordering the archetypes?

For the person who didn't like the book, try the following website which is an online guide for the cards, with more explanations of each card. Well that's all I have to say, except I hope you get as much out of them as I have from mine, and that those who are searching them out manage to get them as well!

Hi all,
Thanks for the link, Martin. I’m the one that said I didn’t like the book. I shouldn’t say that, it’s really an OK book. I just wasn’t prepared for the unique order of the major arcana that is used. Since the majors themselves don’t have numbers on them, it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone to read with these cards. I fell in love with the pictures and have been using the deck for quite a while. When I decided to read the book, I was a bit surprise to see the majors in such a different order. The systems makes sense if you want to use that order but it isn't necessary. I got good readings even before I read the book. I really love this deck and I was surprised that no one ever talks about it. I hope everyone that wants a copy of it can find one! I like the fact that a lot of historical research was used in creating this deck.

Catlin,
If I remember correctly, I bought my deck from my local Borders Books store. I checked with borders.com and they don't have it. Sorry. I will keep my eyes open for you.

Jewel bought me the deck through the link I posted above, so anybody trying: you are TOO LATE :-P
Thanks Jewel, you made my day , coz I love this deck, the artwork is a beauty, and I have been reading the text on her website, it's european historical stuff.

Kaz,
in anticipation for the deck to arrive in me snailmailbox :)
