... as I found MY deck.

It is the Songs for the Journey Home, a self-published deck from New Zealand.

After reading some very positive reviews about this pack (book and round deck that comes in its own box) I started to e-mail some questions to the company that publishes it, Alchemists and Artists. One of the two creators, Dwariko von Sommaruga, gently answered me. She is such a nice person !

Anyway, I wanted to wait to order the book and the deck but it called so loud that I ordered it on Feb.28th. It arrived today so you can see that it went fast (I live in Finland).

I made my own little ceremony to open the package and I loved the book and the deck immedialtly. The cards feel so unique as the deck is round, self-published, the artwork is gorgeous, it is hand-drawn, mostly modern yet nothing like Rohrig for example. Some cards strongly refer to environmental issues, some are lighter, most of them are joyful, none is terryfying (I had some problems with other decks ...). Many cards show some daily activities and occupations.

The deck comes with a book, almost 200 pages. On the inside cover, you can read "In essence, the Songs for the Journey Home is a celebration and recognition of human strengths, frailties and the ability we each have to transform our relationships with each other and with our planet."

Check on these links, see by yourself how unique this is :

And finally, the link of the company Alchemists and Artists :

Do belive, dear fellow friends, that I have no financial interests in the company but I fell in love with the deck. It talked to me like no deck before and as "small is beautiful" I felt I owed it to Alchemists and Artists to tell you about their beautiful cards.

Have a wonderful day as I had !

I've thought of getting this deck, it looks really great. It's a bit pricey, though, because of shipping charges from NZ to here.

You are sorely tempting me, though :)

Have fun with your new deck and let us know how you get on.

All the best,

FH

That is a beautiful deck! Are round decks harder to use? I'm going to have to think seriously on this one. :)

Hi all,

New2Tarot didn't seem to like round decks at all, that's ok, everybody is entitled to their own tastes and opinions ;)

I became suddenly obsessed with round deck and the options were not so numerous. I had a look at some pics from the Motherpeace and to be honest, I didn't like the artwork so much and I read somewhere that this deck was overly feminist. I still have a great respect for this deck, the ancestor of all round decks, I just don't think it would have worked for me.

I am still in the phase of getting to know the cards and I am reading the book that came with them. It is really a great book, it is the first time I read a tarot book that tells me about my life and enlightens me in such a spiritual and peaceful way. Since I have received my deck, I have been on a cloud, I think about the images on the cards all day without effort, I just notice suddenly that oops! there came the Fool or the Star or the Homecomig (= the World)... It is also the second night in a row that I dream about the cards. The first night, I saw some cards and some elements of the images started to grow out of the cardboard, they became bigger and bigger, turned and danced in front of my eyes. This night's dream was real special as I saw our little girl (20 months old) laughing and dancing around, on and with the cards, she was singing and laughing very happily. I woke up and was thinking of the meaning of that dream when I heard that our daughter had woken up too in her bed, she played a little and went back to sleep. Then, this morning, I took her out of bed and went back under my warm blanket, knowing that she would come to play next to me. She ran to me with an enormous smile holding my cards of the Songs for the Journey Home ! I had forgotten to put them away yesterday evening and somehow, she managed to open their little box and brought me all the deck, without any damage, shouting "Mamma !". (Should I have written this story in the Spirituality forum under the thread "What was your most spiritual experience ?" or what ???)

This deck is REALLY special to me. The creators have truly put all their hearts into it. Imagine that it took them almost 4 years to complete it. Both creators (both women) have their own job and they created this deck during their freetime, they weren't any tarot specialists, they are real women who live a normal women's life so the cards are about our daily life as well. The cards encourage us to make everything special in our life. For some reason, I think that this deck had to be round, I haven't read the book enough to say if they justify at one point why they chose to make it round. I read in a review that it is just a matter of getting used to handle round cards, I think it won't be a problem as I DO want to handle them so much, I want to make them a part of my daily life like no other deck before. I am not going to make readings until I feel ready because I have a great respect for the cards and now just doesn't seem right, I do watch them a lot though !

Sorry it got a little bit longer than I intended, I just wanted to reassure Wildchild that a round deck is ok. From your nickname, Wildchild, I guess you might like the cards as well ;) but nobody can tell you what is best for you so listen to your inner self, if you feel incredibly attracted, go for it ! :D

Wow that is a very beautiful deck!

When I scrape enough money up I think I will get that deck. I've been curious about round decks since someone (forgive me I've forgotten who :( )posted about them. I would be interested in your updates on the deck.

:)
