Hey guys,
Alright, so.. I was disappointed with my Celtic Wisdom purchase. Hmm. I guess maybe poor research on my behalf? But I think it sucks that you can't browse an entire deck before you buy it. And all of the internet sites only feature a few images. The art is awesome, but the cards are huge and the changes throw me off too much.

Maybe I'll return/exchange it if I can.. or maybe I'll be keeping it. Maybe when I'm better at reading the cards and understanding them, I'll get more out of the Celtic Wisdom deck?? I doubt I'll be able to return/exchange anyway.

But, there are other decks I would like to pick up and I thought this time around I'd try and get as much feedback as possible. So, if you're reading this -- COMMENT! Give me your two cents if you can.

Here are the decks I'm considering, comment on as many of them as you can, your experiences with them, learning curves, readability, useability .. even card backs if you can! Also, how ACCURATE are readings with these decks?

1. Morgan-Greer Tarot
2. The Secret Tarots
3. Pythagorean Tarot
4. Haindl Tarot

Help me make informed decisions about these decks, as I want to acquire all of them sooner or later. But, the decks are pretty pricey... Morgan Greer is only $23, while the Pythagorean is $65. What I want to avoid is making another disappointing purchase where I can't use the deck actively.. like the Celtic Wisdom deck is nice but it's not useable for me. It's just going to collect dust until I am able to learn to use it..

Thanks!

Hi New, sorry to hear you are dissapointed :( Per your request here are my 2 cents on 2 of the 4 decks and a question about one to make sure I comment on the right deck ;)

MORGAN-GREER: Excellent beginner deck. Accurate readings. Art is pleasing there are no borders (I like that feature). I cannot remember the card backs off hand, but overall the deck is wonderful. It is a Raider Waite (RW) clone, thus you can refer to any books that use RW illustrations to continue your learning (78 Degrees of Wisdom is one I highly recommend). Overall I think you would be pleased with this deck, many of us here really think highly of it.

HAIDL: Personally I love this deck. The art is somewhat abstract, but something about it draws me to it, but I have not had time to work with it so I cannot tell you about reading accuracy. It uses symbolism from the Qabalah and I-Ching, and in my opinion I would not consider this a deck for begginers, yet with that said I would also like to say that that is a personal opinion only. I would not buy this deck without the book, that I will tell you.

SECRET TAROT: are you referring to the one by Lyle? If you are, I have this deck, and again I have not worked with it but I had to have it. The art is simple with 3 dimensional figures made out of silver or gold. The cards are not cluttered and to me the images were very evocative. It appeared on surface glance that it would be an easy to use deck. It comes in a deck and book set.

If you are dissapointed with your Celtic Wisdom you may try the trade forum here at Aeclectic to see if someone might want to trade you for one of the deck/book sets that you are seeking. Just an idea. I have made a couple of successful trades and have been very pleased.

Good luck!

new...
so sorry to hear that your celtic deck isn't clicking for you--can you give it a chance?
you may find, as i did, that your connection to more difficult decks improves as you learn more. my dislike for certain decks has even done a 180-degree shift in some instances. i can, at the very least, find that i respect those systems that i still do not favor, at least for what they teach, or for their artistic beauty, or any other number of strengths.
any-hoo...
the morgan-greer deck is definitely a better deck for learning and reading.
good luck!

well, that's the thing - some stores *will* let you look through an entire deck before you buy it - quality stores anyway. the trick is finding one, or two, or three. there's a barnes and noble near me that has a bunch of decks you can look through. and a couple of metaphysical shops near me have several decks that the owner has opened for the customers to look through. i remember when i went to salem, ma, there was one store with a huge tarot department that had hundreds of decks (or what seemed like hundreds) open for public viewing. of course, i've forgotten the name of the store. in any event, i'd imagine that if you persevere, you'll find a store not too far from you that has decks for viewing before purchase. i agree, buying a deck without seeing it first is risky at best, and a total waste of money at worst. good luck.
luv and light,
nexy
