In 2001 we voted for our top tarot deck.
I wonder, with all the new people here, and all the new decks we have been collecting... if that top ten list would still look the same?
So - of these top ten decks, which is your favourite?
(They are listed alphabetically to prevent bias...)

of the top 10 decks, i only like 4. guess i'm just picky. these are #1 legend arthurian, thoth, robin wood, and rider-waite.

my first choice is still the robin wood deck. the legend arthurian is a close second though.

I have used the Rider-Waite one of those listed. The rest I've seen but never used. Now I feel like I'm missing something.

I don't like any of them all that much. I picked Rider-Waite by default.

Well, I actually have none of the above apart form an old strained Rider-Waite, forgotten in my drawers... that I didn't want to pick up... not even for the Poll!
So I chose Cosmic Tribe, because it is the one I would buy first among them all :)
HEY GUYS I ONLY REALISED IT NOW: NEXY IS BACK!!!

I've voted Rider Waite in this poll because it is my favourite study deck :) (My favourite reading deck is still the Spiral though)

I don't have any of these decks. The nearest I have is Universal Waite, which I find a nice calm deck - a study deck I suppose.
My favourite deck is the Whimsical Tarot. It is a gentle deck. For example, the Tower is a picture of the Big Bad Wolf blowing down the little piggy's house of straw. In the background the other two little pigs are waiting in the brick house for their brother to run for safety to them. It feels much less threatening than most Tower cards I've seen.
I don't like the Death card though. It is Sleeping Beauty, and I really feel that misses out on the theme of transformation that is part of the Death card for me.
Anyway, no votes for any of the above for me.
All the best,
FH

Hi gang! Although my 2 favorite decks were on this list, I think that if we are going to try to make a fair pole of favorite decks we should make a longer list. The Marseilles deck is a favorite of some here at the Forum, as is the Shapeshifter, the Universal Waite, and I think we could add a few more. I know we are just making a summary but I think we should reflect at 25-30 choices, if not we probably will get a very similar list as to last year. Just my two pearls with, please not I am not complaining just making a suggestion. ;)

Great idea Jewel... if it were possible :) Unfortunately we are only able to put a max of ten items in a poll, hence the reason I chose them from last years, just to see if the same results were still in. I know have four of the decks in this top ten and only one last year... I figured if my number one was different, others might be too...

Hmm... mayhaps I will have to take a closer look at the Osho Zen Tarot.
I have shied away from the Thoth deck, but mostly because of my opinion of Crowley, or maybe because of the tendrils and wisps that rise off the deck when I get near one.
I have looked at a lot of decks, but so far am a two deck person.

I used the Robin Wood Tarot most, but the Buckland Romani deck is fast approaching a close second. It's an amazingly intuitive deck, tho vastly different from the standard Rider Waite tradition.

Hmmmmmm .... well that is too bad! How about making another pole of 10 other decks and then combine the highest ranking decks from both lists ... just a thought. I would not vote again as my favorite deck was on this list, but for those whose decks were not on there it would be great! Thanks for your reply Kayne! :)

I'm surprised the Haindl isn't more popular around here. It's breathtaking and compelling and I feel like I could fall into it. 'Course, it's sorta hard to read...

Actually there are 2 favorites for me in that list... The deck for readings would be Rider Waite all the way but when it comes to artwork Osho-Zen looks very appealing to me. Although the artwork looks very impressive I can't really get used to the pictures as in a real reading. Oh well; perhaps I should simply order it someday and see / try for myself..

1). Russian St. Pete's
2). Scapini
Has anyone else used the Russian deck? I love it, very easy to bond/imprint with; and it is very easy to read.

i go for the robin wood, though thoth is a close second-- (actually third-- the thrid incarnation of the deck for me. but this time the coloring is marvelous; i had two drab icky ones before. )
a question for the cosmic tribe and thoth owners-- do you use all 80 cards? after all, there are the three magi and lover's triangles.... })

I voted for the Robin Wood, it's the only one on the list I read with. If I could have chosen ANY deck I would have gone for the Shapeshifter.
I own 4 decks of the list: Rider Waite (keep it for nostalgia, was my first deck), Sacred Circle (I love some of the major arcana, I use these cards for meditation sometimes) Arthurian (like it but not as much as expected. Am not really tempted to read with it at the moment), and the Robin Wood.

Steve,
I have both the Cosmic Tribe deck with three Lovers cards and the Thoth deck with three Magus cards. I do use all the cards in both decks but usually not all at the same time. With the Cosmic Tribe deck, I let the person I’m reading for select the Lovers card they want and leave the other two Lovers cards out for that reading. The same thing happens with the Magus cards in the Thoth deck where I let the person I am reading for select the one they like the most. Now, there have been a couple of times when I felt it was appropriate to put more than one of the Lovers cards in the deck and shuffle but the funny thing was that none of the Lovers cards ever showed up in the spread!

I had to go with Osho Zen but then I don't have most of the decks listed--too darn picky :)

Hi Steve, I have both decks and to answer your question ... no, I do not use all 80 cards. I sometimes change out the extras depending on what I am up to and what my mood is. Not all Thoth decks come with the 3 Magi, the large swiss thoth only has one (I have both decks). Check out the Cosmic Tribe Study Group, one of our memebers told about her use of the three Lovers and I found it quite interesting. The thread is "Lovers card" if I am not mistaken.
