ROFL
Kaz, I went to look and it's actually Tarot of the CRONE (not Crown) ROFL !!!
I'm not sure I like it??? Even with the sort of childlike drawing style it's almost spooky IMO. Although that may have something to do with my crone years rapidly approaching me! LOL

This deck offends me because I'm a Wiccan. If you look at the chariot, you see the stereotypical green-faced witch on a broomstick. Sigh.

Hi!
Thanks for the link - I can't say that i liked the deck very much, but I happened to peek in on the spreads page, and found one that seemed very interesting, the Crone's Eye View Spread (don't like the name, but that may be due to not being used to the English phrasing I suppose...!). Has anyone tried it?
Spread recap, "for your convenience"... ;)
***6***
*4*1*5*
*2***3*
1) She sees the pattern (overall situation)
2) ...what is hidden
3) ...what is obvious
4) ...your strength
5) ...your weakness
6) ...where to strike (how the situation should be approached)
Seems to cover the stuff I need to know right now - so thanks again for the link! :)
Love and light,
Jenny :)

Wow! Thanks for the link kaz. How creative! I looked at some but not all of the cards. Of the ones I saw, some I really liked , others I didn't care for. But all in all I really like the deck. I like the idea of it , even her new name for the court cards! I'm into feminist type decks. I saw the witch on the broomstick for the chariot, I think? I'm wiccan also , but it just made me grin :) . I guess I'm not as easily offended as some. Besides , it seems a bit humorous to me. And it's so Different from the Usual warrior guy taking the reins of an old fashioned chariot with 2 horses, each going in opposite directions etc. I Love it. Don't think it's published though!

Yowza...definitely not a fluffy deck! Overall I like it visually quite a bit. I thought of the Chariot image as sort of a reclaiming of that negative stereotype and making it positive, although I remember being put off by similar imagery when I thought of myself more firmly as pagan.
More problematic is the fact that nearly anything that has very masculine connotations in traditional decks is completely poopified here. The Emperor has always been a tricky card for me, but here it's just a total downer. It's sort of a visual representation of "The Man," as in, "Quit workin' for The Man and get a job with an environmentally-conscious small business!" or "I used to believe people were basically good, but the Man is really gettin' me down... man." The court cards are renamed and the Kings have become Shadow cards, showing the ultimate or destructive aspect of the elements; Swords is Machine, Cups is Drowning. At least the Hierophant ("Tradition" here) is a positive card.
In the Minor Arcana she seems to have taken nearly every ambivalent or not-so-great meaning and flipped it to make its positive counterpart: the Five of Cups' keyword is Hope; Eight of Cups is Commitment (!!); Eight of Swords is Teaching (!!!). But then, a few cards are clearly based on the old standbys; Six of Swords is Design, much like Science in the Thoth. Incidentally this is a pet peeve of mine; the journey/departure meaning is very dear to me, and I don't know why it was decided (by the Golden Dawn folks?) to slap a different meaning on this card.
This deck really compels me, and I'm fond of the idea of a feminist deck with originality; but then again, man-hating sucks. Thanks for the dilemma, Kaz! :D

You shouldnt be offended by thetraditional witch figure as a Wiccan. Scott Cunningham loved this image as an image of the Crone, Ibelieve he even invented a game about her,Id look it up but I recently traded away my copy of his Biography lol

While I like the idea of this deck, I'm not into the artwork. *sigh* I'm spoiled by artists like Michael Whelan, Hrana Janto, Robert Gould, etc. Now show me a Robert Gould deck and I'll show you a sale....

I see this deck as being about the crone. It's about a middle aged or older woman, and certain psychological , spiritual , emotional, and body images she faces. I just don't see it as being "against "men! (Just because there aren't men in it). How about the Ace of Cups. An older woman wearing a shower cap standing in the shower! LOL

I also don't find the "shadow" or king card to be against men. It shows the demise or detriment or death of the suit. What about the traditional 10 of wands and 10 of swords? I like the number 10, never have quite agreed with these 2 cards being so negative, but I don't know that the author is "against" the number 10 !

It's not just that there are no men in it, it's that almost all the cards that traditionally are associated with "masculine" energy (personally I think "masculine" and "feminine" are bogus and outdated concepts, but that's irrelevant) have been turned into blatantly negative images. It seems like a deliberate move, although obviously I could be wrong about that. I *love* the Ace of Cups :D and in general I love all the positive portrayals of old women. I adore the Two of Cups, too, although it makes me doubt I could do a reading with this deck for anyone who wasn't a gay or bisexual woman. :)

Well , I'm a heterosexual woman , but I Love Daughters of the moon and motherpeace decks. And I'm currently pulling one card from the cosmic tribe deck daily! I don't do readings for others much . So I mainly use tarot to read for myself. However, it seems to me that I Could do a reading for someone else with these decks.
I've E mailed the author/artist of the crone deck and she says she would like to find a publisher.
I don't know why I like feminist decks with primative or childlike drawings but I just feel really drawn to them! Maybe they convey something about me that I don't find in other decks?
I Love the Minors in this deck even more than the majors I think.
Hey , did anyone see last weekend's Saturday night Live show? Just wondering if anyone saw the skit that reminded me of the crone?!

purplelady, the Two of Cups is possibly the most vulva-like piece of art I've seen aside from Tee Corrinne's drawings; it seems sort of specific, that's all. I wasn't trying to imply that one has to be queer to be a feminist, or that one has to be a feminist to like feminist-oriented decks.
