Mixing different decks to make one ?

I was just wondering. I read somewhere a review about the Old Path and the Northern Shadows (both from Rodway and Gainsford) and the person said that they somehow look so similar, s/he was thinking of picking cards from one deck to put them in place of the ones she doesn't like in the other deck ! (Can you follow me ? I am being unclear a little. Well, take an example : she doesn't like the Emperor of the Northern Shadows so she takes the Emperor card from the Old Path and uses it in the NS deck, as if it was the original card of that deck. See ?)

Not that I am thinking of doing it: I am pretty satisfied with my decks and I wouldn't dare messing with the artist's work, you know, but I am curious : has any of you tried this at home ;) ? with which decks ? what do you think of the idea ? How can you be sure your mixed deck will not be mad and refuse to work with you ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Kissa --

I did once try this. It was a while ago. I was frustated because it seemed like for all my favorite decks, there were always some cards I didn't like. So, I thought, why not replace them with cards from other decks which I did like? So I took three US Games decks which happened to be all the same size: Universal Waite, Connolly, and Hudes. I assembled a 78-card deck, taking cards from all three decks. This was a fun exercise, but I never read with it, and the next day I put all the cards back into their original decks. I didn't like that the card backs were all different, and I didn't like it that the cards were different styles and obviously by different authors. That's why I've never been able to read with collaborative decks. There are some, like Artist's Inner Vision, which I admire as artistic endeavors, but my personal preference is that a Tarot deck have a consistency of style.

That is an interesting thought though with two decks from the same artist! hmmmmmm

I really liked my Old Path deck but hated a couple of cards enough to trade it. I'm going to seriously think about this. ???? Because the Northern Shadows deck is very similar in style.
Big hmmmmmmm.......

Havent done i tyet, but if I ever get Tarot of the Saints and the Angel Tarot by the same artist I may consider it, since I like angels better than saints, not being catholic, but the angel decks minors and courts are horrid.I also considered putting in some cards from the winged spirit, a different artist but the majors have some of the same style, mainly because I like Lilith as the moon :) Well someday when I get these 3 added to my collection Ill try it

Errr... I don't think I could ever do that! I like the idea but... I just couldn't bring myself to do it... I think the fact that the backs wouldn't match would really bother me... hmmm...
