I didn't think it would happen to me! But here it is: a tarot deck I'd like to get my hands on - the Mountain Dream Tarot. You can see images of this deck here.
Naturally, it's a deck that I've not seen for sale anywhere. Do any of you know where I could get one? })

Hi Major!
I just KNOW well make a collector of you yet! Anyway, I found the deck, and mus say its very inventive. I'm not sure I like the non-colour thing though.
What you could do is go to your local bookstore, give them the name of the deck, the creator's name, and the publishing company, and ask them to order it for you. This works for me every time!

It IS beautiful, isn't it? I found it (on the net of course, and only available in the US - whaddaya know... I was definitely born in the wrong part of the world, I'm telling you...!! :D ) a few weeks ago, stumbled over The Star-card on a web page and just fell for it!
And I never even was much for photographic decks at all...! :)
I'm gonna have to find out how much the postage would be to Sweden, wouldn't want to miss out on this one! If you get it, which I'll bet you will before I do...!) you'll let the rest of us know what you think of it and how it is to read with, won't you? :D *always curious...!*

*the all knowing priestess makes a speech*
The mountain dreams deck was originally published in the 70's, this version is a new reprint and I think its only a limited edition so you better get it while you can. Toretain collectors value some cards in this edition are slightly changed from the original version, but the original is very hard to find
Thank you, have a nice day :)

A friend of mine who lives in the Asheville, NC area (where the artist is from) recently bought this deck - partially because he liked it but also because it was a local artist. Either way though he just loves it!!! Can't stop talking about it. :) LOL

i just ordered mountain dream as a gift for a friend. i didn't order a copy for myself. drat!! now that i know the author is from asheville, nc i will have to buy myself a copy now. the more i look at it the more i like it. drat! drat! and double drat! i especially like the fact it is an affordable limited edition. the deck is a steal for $20 with $2 for postage. i wonder if her scenery is from the asheville mountain area? i absolutely love the blue ridge mountains of north carolina. i've had some magical moments there hiking to magnificent waterfalls. i think surely many fairies live in those waterfalls. Linville Falls is good but i can't remember the name of my favorite--it's in a more difficult to get to area. i do hope i get to go back up there soon!!

Hmmm... I think I'm going to have to call Chicago. I wonder if it is too late to do it today.
I've been looking at this deck for a couple of days, and the more I look at it, the more I want it...

The original version of the Mountain Dream sold for, I think, ten dollars back in 1975. I've only seen the original up for auction once on ebay and it went for well over three hundred dollars!
This deck makes me feel nostalgiac. It brings back memories of my high school years in the mid 70's. Something about the hairstyles and the clothes probably.

I just recently got this deck. It's great! It actually makes a better impression in person than from online scans.
Reading with this deck is an entirely different experience. Although the models often wear costumes and carry props, the thing that makes this deck good to read with is the facial expressions. The artist, Bea Nettles, is an excellent photographer, and I find the pictures highly evocative. Although it's black and white, each of the four suits and the Majors are slightly different tints, i.e. all the Wands have a slight green tint, cups are slightly pink, etc.
I highly recommend it. It's not all that expensive, and it probably won't be around forever, so it might be worth acting on sooner rather than later. Be warned -- the card stock is very thin. In fact, it seems like it's printed on index cards. But the printing and corner-rounding is very professionally done, and it comes in a neat box.

I ordered it a couple of days ago. It should be here soon. I'm looking forward to it immensely...
I noticed that there were a few on e-bay, but they cost more than ordering it directly did.

Hi Sue,
re your comment...
I noticed that there were a few on e-bay, but they cost more than ordering it
directly did.
We do prefer selling directly (especially via Aeclectic links when they're there) but it seems that a lot of people prefer to buy from our auctions than directly from our site. Auction bids are quite unpredictable however, and we're often surprised when the bids go higher than our regular in-stock prices, and because of that, we frequently lower the price for our winning bidder in cases when they've overbid (and as a frequent bidder on eBay myself, I've only known one other seller to ever do that!) Of course for our truly rare, one of a kind items, we do expect our winning bidder to honor their high bid, but for available in-print items, it doesn't much matter whether you buy from us via our auctions or directly. Hope this information helps next time you see something you like on our eBay auctions..and if you're not sure if our auction item is also available from the site (which, under eBay's strict rules, we're not supposed to acknowledge in our auction text, but we can give you further information if you write to us directly), or if it's a "one-time only, one copy only, better bid on it while you have a chance" item, just email us for additional info!
(And for what it's worth, we just relisted a copy of the Mountain Dream tarot on eBay at a discounted starting bid price.)

Haven't got it yet, but I have one reserved just for me!!! *silly grin* :D I'm being a difficult client, refusing to pay any normal way, so they have to snail-mail me their banking details, so that I can transfer the money - and after THAT it'll be in the mail.
Phew - you guys should be grateful you don't live as far "off" as I do, it does pose a lot of problems...! :D *still grinning like an idiot though...!*
Light and love!

I've ordered the deck - I wonder how long it will take to get here from Illinois? Worked out just shy of £20 including shipping via Air Mail... Can't wait...
Truthsayer, Cocobird55 and Jenny-Li - Let us know when you get it and how you get on with it. I will too. })

Mine came today!
I like it a lot. It came in a very cool box, with a picture of the two of swords on the cover.
It's very different because, of course, the pictures are all of real people in costume. The photographer went to amazing lengths to keep the pictures as close to the RW as possible.
The backs are very pretty, too. The cards aren't laminated, and I do wonder how well they would hold up under a lot of use.
I especially like that each of the minor suits are tinted a different color. All in all, a very cool deck.

Didn't really take that long - just seemed that way because of my anticipation.
The cards are quite large - 13x8.5 cm! I think I am really drawn to this deck because the artist's objective to create a photographic deck is almost precisely the same as my objective in creating Major Tom's tarot. Bea Nettles just had the idea 30 years before me. })
These are the cards I will keep in my Crown Royal bag and carry with me.

i got mine today! it is truly a masterpeice. too bad it's not a mainstream deck. some of the cards show such family intimacy that thee cards seem more real than photographs. i find it amazing that her family went along w/ posing for the pictures--even the nudes! but even nudity is handled so very tastefully. of course, there are some cards done better than others but you find that in every deck.
i found it fascinating that how the deck got its name is that she dreamed she created it. she lived in the mountains and she dreamed about created such a deck around her home and family. she started the deck the day she woke up from the dream and worked on it 4 years. what a calling! how simply wonderful!!!!!!
i don't really have a problem w/ the card stock being thin. i probably won't use it as an everyday deck. it almost feels too personal to use. the box it comes w/ to protect is is the strongest i've ever seen.
if you haven't got this deck, you must have it whether you're a tarot-holic or not! :D

getting this deck reminds me of another thing y'all might want to check out on pbs tonight. 3 modern families are taken out into the wilderness of montana to live like families would in 1883 for 5 months. the story is amazing b/c it shows how these ppl who are so accustomed to modern conveniences have to toughen up to survive. two families are coping pretty well but one family is having seriously difficulities. it's interesting to see if they'll bond as a community and help the family that's sinking and starving to survive. a couple gets married tonight in an old fashioned prairie wedding!
the scenery is gorgeous and how they dress in the program reminds me of the mountain dream deck. i don't know what channel or what time it'll come on elsewhere but it's on pbs from 9 to 11 pm on eastern standard time. if you can check it out!

i gave MD a trial reading today. this deck has a definite down home in the country feeling. kind of like make yourself at home! kick your shoes off! y'all come back now! LOL i think its voice is very clear for mundane readings. i can see spirituality in it but it feels so reality earth based. i think querents will love it. i can't wait to try it out on someone. i feel like the readings will really get to the heart of the matter and tell the truth like it is. i don't really feel emotionally involved w/ the ppl like i do w/ the vrt. i'm not sure why except these ppl seem to feel more at ease w/ themselves and their lot in life. they are also content to live in the beautiful blue ridge mountains. reading the cards just takes me back there. almost heaven!!!!!! just a relaxing deck to read.

thanks, major tom. i hadn't really thought about it but i feel a word flow w/ this deck that would probably make it easier to review. i've been trying to review the dance of life but i have a mental block to writing about it. MD may be easier. thanks for the idea.

i started the MD tarot review today. i couldn't believe how easily the words came to me. i've had writer's block for ages! all i had to do was channel my love for the blue ridge mountains, the seventies and john denver into how i relate to the deck and vice versa. i've got some editing and revisions to do but gee, it feels great to be writing again! i could hug you major tom!!! i think this review will be unique but then so am i. ;) LOL
