Oh, Swell, Not Another One

So I've been reading Rachel Pollack's Illustrated Guide to the Tarot, which is really great actually; it has many cards from many, many decks in it, to expand on whatever point she's making at a given moment. The first thing that grabbed me was the large blowup of a High Priestess that I did not recognize; that image faced the title page. Good grief, I thought, that's a fabulously perfect High Priestess; I'll bet there's no way I'll ever figure out where it came from. Who knows if it's even from an actual deck anyway. So I started reading, and eventually came to a section about the court cards, how tricky they are and how to help that, etc; and there were a Page of Cups and King of Swords displayed next to each other, obviously from the same deck. They were lucid, they were vibrant, they made me want whatever deck they were from. A lot. I stumbled excitedly to the index in the back, to see if just *maybe* the different decks were credited, and lo and behold...!

Anyway, it's the Morgan-Greer that has grabbed me by the cojones. I'm sort of grumpy about the whole thing, because I try to avoid getting decks that artistically similar to each other, and this one looks very much like an exact blend between the Robin Wood and the Aquarian. That doesn't diminish my intense desire to have it, of course.

Does anyone have the Morgan-Greer? How do you like it? Has a good book been written for it?

I have it, and it does nothing for me.... it sits in a box and gathers dust. Got something you want to trade for it?

Qolus:
I recently bought the Morgan-Greer, with hesitation. My main deck, out of around 35 total, is the Robin Wood, and I too thought that the M-G would be too similar to both that and R-W. I really love it though--it has been giving me very clear, insightful readings. I knew it was right for me the first time I used it-- to pull a "card for the day." I was shuffling and thinking about how sunny it was outside... how I needed to get out..how I wish I'd pull the Sun card (since I always pull "darker" cards) and, there it was-the Sun!
It is a R-W "clone" for the most part, using the same basic imagery, but missing some of the more subtle symbolism of that deck. The book that comes with it describes the symbolism they use, but I didn't agree with/see much of it, so I don't often refer to this book when using the deck. Artistically, I like the look of it much better than the R-W though. And yes, I love the High Priestess!

:TFOOL I bought it about 10yrs ago. I found it a bit nieve..I think I gave it to my sister....I will email her and ask if she still has it..

Q.,
the morgan-greer is a favorite of mine...it's the first deck i was actually able to read with comfortably, for actual querents. i like it's vibrant colors and borderless design. if you are especially learned in RW imagery, this deck will work easily for you. IMO, it's one of the better RW clones. there are also a few books keyed to this deck, which is always nice.
i say, if you have a chance to get it, go for it! besides, if you are a collector, why not? if you're NOT a collector, you will be!

I think I'm there already... :) Thanks for the encouragement, etc., guys. I'm hoping to seal a trade with mojo. This trading thing is new to me with tarot; I always thought most tarot users, unlike me, were averse to the possibility of getting each other's psychic residue or whatever. I'm so glad that the "tarot community," if there is such a thing, includes friendly and magnanimous folks such as you'uns. (The redneck tarot thread is influencing my speech... ;) )
