I am SSSSSOOOOOOOOO tempted to get the Tarot of the Cat People that has been sitting on the shelf of my local 'alternative' shop, for quite a while now... I have only seen a few cards of it though, and want to know if anyone has this deck, and if they do, what's it like? Are the Minors illustrated?

Its cute, but its not a good reading deck, at least not forme(but it belongs to my husband anyway hehe) The cards arent really alll that evocative, but if you really tried you can get meaning by looking at the cats, who are all really cute and expressive :) But I recommend getting the book with the deck, as it tells much more about the fantasy land the deck is set in. But its definately a pretty deck, and probably would be good for meditation via stuff like entering the card from Tarot for Yourself. The artwork is dark in color, just so you know, and backgrounds were splattered by a toothrush to achieve the effect. I do really like the finish on this deck, its not super shiny and slippery, its a matte finish that seems to just glide.

i know what you mean, i ordered it a few months ago, but they didn't have it, so it will be for another time. i find it a very beautifull one and because i adore cats i'm curious about it.
now to help you, on phoenixskye you can look at all the images. the internetpage is: http://phoenixskye.everplay.org/fantastical.htm

The Minors are illustrated with R-W-S-type scenes, but a lot of them aren't teribbly evocative. For instance, they might show a person standing with several swords. The book and booklet will give a specific meaning, but you wouldn't have been able to guess that meaning from the card. I like this deck, but don't read with it.

as a cat fancier and cat co-dependent, i had high hopes this would be the deck for me. however, the author does the deck from a kind of scifi/fantasy point of view. there are 4 lands and 4 different tribes of cat ppl. one tribe is from the desert, etc. each suit describes the customs and behaviors of each tribe. cats are a very important part of each of the tribes of cat ppl. i haven't gotten the book yet so that may help me understand the deck better. i've been told the book really helps understanding. the art is good and i enjoy looking at it but i can't read w/ it. the symbolism and mythology are too foreign to what i know about tarot and divination. if you want a cat deck, the best i've found is the majors only, tarot for cats. the cards are beautiful and expresses tarot meanings from a cat's perspective. the deck is both humorous and serious. unfortanately, the deck is OOP. i've seen copies occasionally on ebay at exhorbitant prices.

Echoing--
I bought the book for someone who already had the Cat People Tarot and read it. It was interesting, but I'm not sure if you actually use it to divine.
Do not confuse with 'Tarot for Cats' which is another deck entirely!

I keep thinking about this deck too!! I don't really know why either, because when I flip throught the deck it doesn't really grab me and I put it back. But then a month will go by and I have to go look through it again.
I've held off so far, but I bet I'll end up buying it one of these days! LOL

i got the set and it is up for trade;-)
(see the europe trade threads)
it is a rather dark deck.
the things i did like about it was the outrageous costumes, like a 70:ies party in turkey.
i also liked the art, the way she painted the cards - but i am afraid i didn't like the cats much. and i am a cat-lover! just not these cats.

The artist spent a lot of time creating the four different worlds for each suit and such, but could have spent some more time on the card meanings.
Some people do NOT like the Tower card-- which is a large cat-shaped tower with it's head being blown off, if I recall.
I'd list this design as sci-fi, myself.

I have the set in my collection partly because I am a cat-addict (but I do not have so many as I have tarot decks - you know, cats do not stay so nicely in a bookshelf than tarot decks do ;)
and partley because I wanted a SF deck.
I count it more to SF or fantasy decks. I still haven't tried it for a reading, though.
