what's you favorite deck right now??

What is everybody's favorite at this moment?? I am really into the Rohrig taor right now. I got it brand new in a trade, and when I opened it, I was attacted to it immediately!! Although the size makes it difficult to carry around.

What is the deck that is "the cream of the crop" for you right now?? I am aware that you opinions might change every now and again, but I mean right now, right this minuit

Liliana  10 Apr 2002
Um i believe World Spirit :)

Kiama  10 Apr 2002
I'm into the Rohrig deck too, right now, seeing as I got it today! (Quite accidentally you understand... ;) ) I'm always into the Robin Wood, cuz that's my fave deck in the world.

Kiama

Rhiannon  10 Apr 2002
Goddess Tarot. I'm just amazed at how well the meanings of the cards are jumping out at me every time I do a reading. I'm also really enjoying studying the Faerie's Oracle.

Rhiannon :)

truthsayer  10 Apr 2002
gosh! that's a hard question! i have several new decks and they are all so much fun!! i believe wheel of change and the wild spirit are my current favs tho. rohrig is another favorite even tho i haven't gushed about it in a while. i've had it almost a year so that honeymoon feeling has faded. ;) the imagery is beautiful and sensual. i don't know if you have the rohrig book(kiama & phoenix) but i've really enjoyed it. the pictures are exact replicas of the cards. you could cut up the book and get the deck. carrying the book around to examine the cards is a bit easier than carrying around the cards.

All Is One  10 Apr 2002
I'm still experimenting and getting to know the R. Wood and the Gendron decks I just got...I am feeling strange about the Gendron- some of it's images impressed me so much at first glance, but is feeling quite empty on the whole, and lacks the feeling of unity I get with my tried and true.
My favorite deck for deep and complicated readings that I usually study up on or keep laid out for weeks until I "get" them inside of me is the large Thoth deck.

truthsayer  10 Apr 2002
all is one, i have the same prob w/ the gendron. it does seem to lack unity. the art feels inconsistent. the major arcana is pretty good but then she switches to some garish computer art that doesn't work for me. if she had stuck w/ those beautiful drawings then the deck would have felt far more cohesive to me. however, some ppl are able to look past these things and really get into gendron. i was really excited when i first got it but readings just wouldn't flow. so don't feel bad if it doesn't work for you either.

Kitty  10 Apr 2002
right now it would have to be Sacred Rose, but also Medieval Scapini and Arthurian.
Depends on whoever wants to 'speak to me'. :)

Ah, don't like sacred rose anymore, in love with the thoth :)

faunabay  10 Apr 2002
The decks I'm using the most right now are the Healing with the Angels and Healing with the Fairies.
As far as actual tarot decks though it's my Brotherhood of Light. Check out my weird story about this deck if you haven't already. Amazing!!!

All Is One  10 Apr 2002
I'm so glad to hear that it isn't just me...
I was just in love with the few cards I looked at at first, and then each day that passed I felt more of a cold cloud over me when I just thumbed through the deck.
I wish the faces weren't stretched- actually the whole deck seems to have been run through Adobe Photoshop backwards!
The thoth art is like the cavern of the unconcious for me- even when I don't seem to be able to "make sense" of an aspect... it fills out inside my mind even while I run or do dishes.
I can't bring myself to read w/the Gendron...but I love the R Wood as much as my dear old friend, the Merlin Deck. Very reliable.

Zhritza  11 Apr 2002
I'm turning out to be quite smitten with the Victoria Regina. I also bought the Crystal Tarot only days before the VR, and it's breathtaking; but the VR keeps sucking me in. It does have a really good book with it, maybe that's part of why. Plus the Crystal has pips... although they're probably the most beautiful pips I've ever seen, and I am getting less stupid with pips. The VR has my soul and finds it tasty!

emily2otters  11 Apr 2002
i've been drawing from the medicine cards deck everyday, just trying to get the feel for them. i'm finding the book to be a little more new-agey than i expected... what exactly did i expect, anyway? ;) but i'm definitely looking at the animals around me in a whole new light.

for standard tarot readings, i like the new palladini art.

for readings about very nebulous, emerging situations in my life, feelings for which i have no words, push and pull of unseen forces, nothing can beat the soul cards.

i got the hudes deck a few weeks ago...the images are really interesting, and some of the cards have got me seeing meanings in a different light, they are honest cards, they dont hold anything back but they give me a sad, wistful feeling when i use them, i find the 5 of swords particularly negative, i guess that's because i learnt with the R/W

at the moment i am getting intimate with the renaissance tarot (jane lyle)...very informative accompanying book...it explains the symbolism completely, especially for the major arcana...the cards will take a little getting used to though...so i would say that it is my fav deck at the moment

MystiqueMoonlight  11 Apr 2002
I have to say the Thoth Deck is my favourite. I have the normal size deck which seems to be more vibrant in colour. The larger deck is more muted and doesn't appeal to me at all.

I do have the Haindl which appeals to me greatly, but I'm sticking with the Thoth.

Emily  11 Apr 2002
I saw, on this site in the decks section, the Robin Wood and The Celtic Dragon tarot - both just blew me away. I've never noticed either decks before but for some reason as I was looking through them both, the decks started to call to me. Now as I keep saying I'm not really a collector but when I feel so stongly about a deck that looks so impressive as these two did, I really have no will power lol Any I couldn't make my mind up which I wanted so I order both and they came yesterday - I was right, these decks are special - Robin Wood very pagan, interesting - Celtic Dragon like the Anne McCaffrey books I used to read about Pern lol - If you've never noticed these decks, check them out :)

Russian St. Petersburg and the Spiral.

.dc  11 Apr 2002
my three decks that i use regularly are:

VERTIGO -- i love this deck. i have both versions of it. it's my main deck and i use it for personal and public readings

PHANTASMAGORIC THEATER -- dubbed the TIM BURTON deck. i use this for games and spells.

3. FAERIE ORACLE-- love brian fround. this deck is a great healper deck for if you need to choose personas to help you with things. i usually try and select one a week or daily to go with my 3 card daily spreads.

blessed be,
.dc

Phoenix  11 Apr 2002
You know, I have THE EXACT same feeling with my Gendron deck. Althought I prefer the minor arcana to the major.

Jewel  12 Apr 2002
My ultimate favorite is the Cosmic Tribe Tarot! I just can't say how much I love that deck *LOL*. In terms of decks I work with, there is the Cosmic Tribe for readings, Wild Spirit for spiritual work, and the Faerie's Oracle (Froud). Like Kiama I also have a very special place in my heart for the Robin Wood. I usually use it to read for others when asked. My love affairs with decks usually last a really long time, it took 7 years for me to go from using the Robin Wood to the Cosmic Tribe, I may own a lot of decks and love to collect them but when I find one that resonates with me I stick with it. I think I will have real long lived relationships with the three decks I am currently using.

Strange2  15 Apr 2002
The decks that I am currently working with are:

Alchemical Tarot: crisp artwork and strong symbolism

Fractal Firebird Tarot: fascinating and metamorphic

Tarot of the Spirit: uplifting and insightful

Thoth: deep and direct

Kaz  15 Apr 2002
for reading: robin wood and osho zen
for study: templar and greenwood

kaz

rostie  16 Apr 2002
right now:

faeries oracle (froud)
osho zen tarot
goddess oracle (A.S. Marashinsky, H. Janto)

Kiama  16 Apr 2002
Oh, so we can choose more than one?? Okay!
Aswell as the Rohrig, as mentioned in a previous post:

Medicine Woman: Thanks to Jema for this one! I love the way the Minors tell a story.

Cosmic Tribe: All the nekkid people! :p I also love the symbolism and 'deepness' of it... A very powerful and thought provoking deck.

Pythagorean: Lots to study here!

Kiama

jema  16 Apr 2002
it is the Gill - my old faithful
kazanlar - brand new and filled with fairytales
medieval scapini - for bonding with.

all78degrees  12 May 2002
mmmm

mine would be Tarot of the Sephiroth. I got a few days ago and I'm really fascinated. You definately need the book though. Its makes so much deference.

I also like Faeres' Oracle.

all78degrees

kayne  13 May 2002
Cosmic Tribe - STILL!!!
(closely followed by Robin Wood...)

Liliana  13 May 2002
Mine changed, I got my Rohrig and its amazing, definately is my reading deck i think :) Might chage again as I have a special deck on its way to me, but thats more cute than a truly serious working deck

Now I need to find my meditation deck, one I can do Tarot for Yourself with, itd be really hard to enter the majors of the Rohrig

:THP

Aerin  13 May 2002
Hallowquest Arthurian, because I love the mythology and the cards seem born for me to meditate with. And it seems to be comforting when that is appropriate and hard hitting when I need to be challenged.

I like my other decks, I read with them, often I love them but I keep coming back to this deck.

Aerin

Zhritza  14 May 2002
I've been acquiring decks too fast lately; I haven't even had a chance to read with all of them yet. But so far out of this batch it's the Russian.

Phoenix  06 Jun 2002
Well mine has changed. Right now it is the Ancestral Path Tarot.

Faerie Lin  07 Jun 2002
The Faeries' Oracle!!!!!!!

For those with the Victoria Regina and the Vertigo Tarot.... I am sooooo jealous!!!! LOL, those 2 are HIGH on my list!

Lin

Zhritza  07 Jun 2002
faerie lin, my advice is to get the VR first... you won't believe how easy it is to use, and how deep it goes... The Vertigo is wonderful but it's definitely a handful...

Okay, mine's Cat People now.

Geenius at Wrok  07 Jun 2002
Plus there are rumors that the Vertigo is being reprinted in a month or so and that the cards will be sturdier and coated better.

Faerie Lin  07 Jun 2002
oh Cool!, thanx for the advice you guys!

aeonx  07 Jun 2002
Greetings all. :)
My fav deck now is the Hanson-Roberts! Most definitely! :D The funny thing is, when I got it I hardly liked it because of some symbolizm-problems, and I suspected that I would just put it away and not use it anymore. I was wrong! I just adore this deck now, and grow more and more fond of it. :)

~aeonx~

Keslynn  07 Jun 2002
I have been exploring many of my new decks (love the VR!) but I keep going back to my Gendron. I haven't had it that long but it immediately called me. I find it very comforting and comfortable. I love the imagery and the feeling she's infused into every card. At first, I'll look at a card and think "What was she thinking?! That's so weird!" Then as I look closer, I find so many layers of meaning. Every spread is like a treasure hunt.

wavebreaker  07 Jun 2002
I currently use the Glastonbury and the Osho Zen for readings.

Lee  07 Jun 2002
My favorite right now is the one I just bought (of course): the Angels Tarot by Robert Place. This deck seems to displease just about everybody, but it appeals to me in a way that no other deck has yet.

-- Lee

Melvis  07 Jun 2002
Hi, all!

I do so much experimenting with all my decks that I rarely use one deck for too long.

But I have to say that I'd choose my Cosmic Tribe deck for giving me the best readings. I do carry a deck around with me for occasional readings...up till last week it was the World Spirit. I just got the Robin Wood deck, though, so that's my new carry-on, all-purpose deck!

Peace,

Melvis

since i have the "i am one tarot", that's the one for me now, it beat the thoth.

kaz

tabbycat  30 Jun 2002
Fave deck would have to be the Courtney Davis Celtic. I love the artwork! Use it all the time for readings - it has a way of unearthing everyone's deepest secrets!
I used to have the Thoth deck but couldn't use it, as the cards were too large to handle easily. Had the Dali deck at one point too, but hated the look of it!

Ravenswing  30 Jun 2002
i'll chime in about the gendron. it seems as if she suddenly discovered photoshop after the majors. then again, it might be her way of showing the difference between the two. one small unfortunate thing-- there's only majors depicted in our deck section. it was quite a surprise when i got the deck...

oh yeah, my favorite deck-- that's what i came here for. right now it's the robin wood. i nearly bought 'tarot plain and simple' since it features the deck, but that little silent voice said no... that evening i read about robin's book on robin's deck. it's on its way to me now.

my real love at the moment isn't a tarot deck. i'm really deep into the symbolon deck. it's not a tarot and not an oracle in the usual sense. it deals with internal matters and personae. a facinating deck. there's a study group in the general study section for anyone interested.

i have the blake and the tarot of ceremonial magick waiting in the wings. they'll be my study decks.

and there's a bunch somewhere in the nebulous void of in transit....

Right now, at this very minute... I'd have to say the Robin Wood. There's a story behind that. I often read with the Shapeshifter, but this time it was not going that well and I got confused.
I don't really remember my dream that night, but I remember somehow the robin wood was in it. I had never really given much attention to this deck, I had it safely tucked away with other decks I use occasionally.
So I took the deck, did a reading...made perfect sense. So it was as if the deck had called out to me offering help.
I never got the book on robin wood - do you think it would be useful ?

catwoman  30 Jun 2002
My favourite deck at the moment would have to be The Mythic Tarot because it's just so easy to read and the cards are drawn beautifully.

My least favourite deck would have to be the Book of Thoth as I am finding it really hard to make sense of the pictures! I bought it off my friend for £10 - it was a bargain, though.

Naomi xx

jema  30 Jun 2002
my fav right now is the Thoth:)
will probably be using it together with the Gill for the next months daily readings.

Kyrielle  30 Jun 2002
Karma Tarot (could you not tell from my other enthusiastic postings about this deck?) and also Tarot Nova and World Spirit. The Children Tarot is fun, too.

Starfish  01 Jul 2002
Bummer. I have to narrow it down to one, huh? My favorite then is my Robin Wood. Whenever I feel confused or get a reading I'm not sure about with one of my other decks, my Robin Wood never lets me down.

I love ALMOST everyone of my decks - except the Witches Tarot. It just doesn't like me! I'm not going to give up on it though and when I feel more comfortable in my knowledge of Tarot, I'm going to work with it!

Maybe it's the 70's feminist granola hippie in me, but the Motherpeace book (and, subsequently, deck) was my gateway into Tarot, and into Goddess spirituality, and though I've tried other decks, this is the one that I really connect with. I've seen people say that the drawings are "primitive" or "childish," but I think for me, at least, that's an advantage: they seem to have a direct "archetypal" quality of art-from-the-inner-spirit that bypasses a cerebral "fine art appreciation" mode and goes straight to the intuitive, symbolic mind.

Also, I think it's got the best Hierophant card of any deck I've seen. :D Typical Hierophant cards give the whitewashed version of religious authority; the Motherpeace card gets past the image to remind us that our Source is in the Earth, and to beware of religious "authorities" that would cut us off from that Source rather than help us connect with it.

Another thing I like about the Motherpeace is the nuance that a round deck affords. It also makes it all the stronger, given how easy it is for a card to be slightly tilted one way or the other, when I do get a card that is bolt upright or precisely reversed. Because of the round cards, I tend to favor round layouts (or else a basic three-card spread) rather than something like the Celtic Cross, which I really haven't used apart from the occasional online click-and-read. :D There's a round layout called the "New Moon" layout that I found online and have been using for the past few months; it's a good layout for learning to see the "story" connecting the cards, as it centers around the pattern of the waxing and waning moon/month.

Other decks I've used (Morgan Greer, Robin Wood, Sacred Circle, among others) have been helpful for meditation and study and comparative interpretation, but for actual readings I keep going back to the Motherpeace.

Temperance413  02 Jul 2002
For me it has to be the Vision Quest. There is something about it that pulls me in and every reading is so accurate.
I love the colors they are so beautiful. This deck I really connect with.
Also, the Motherpeace, both small and large.

Kirali  04 Jul 2002
Right now for me, it's Legend: the Arthurian Tarot and Brian Froud's Faeries' Oracle. Legend has this comfy feel to me!

All Is One  04 Jul 2002
I was the miscreant who wrote the thread "One Deck Fans"

And I was stuck on the Thoth deck-- after buying the first 3 decks I'd bought in. . .about 3-4 years, I was upset to find that the Robin Wood, the Gendron and especilly the Art N by Myers~ left me cold and irritated. I had to snuggle up with my Thoth for about . . . 5 months! before I risked it again.

This time I thimk I studied up on the decks, let myself crave them. . .

My favorite deck of all right now is the 'I am ONE' by Maya Britan.

I read the interviews with her that Thirteen did so
well. . .and I went to her site (I think everyone knows where it is, but in case you want to see all the cards and read more, it is at
<http://www.saint-art.com/> ,. . .

One of the only decks that I have connected with on sight, and I have spent very little time with the LWB- just love using it in the "honeymoon"
phase, while it feels like the part of your hands that you had neede
and now everything fits.

Aside from the beauty and movement in her art, the study and devotion Maya put in really evolves in this deck when it reads. Best reading deck I've ever had.

Maybe I'll actually use it in a reading for my ex-boyfriend tomorrow~

nah~ not quite ready to share my treasure. I'll use my next fav deck- just got the Deck of the Master. More on that one later. . .

Jimilyn  04 Jul 2002
The deck I'm having most fun with right now is my Faeries' Oracle. It's soooooo alive.

I really like the art in the Hanson-Roberts and Victoria Regina. I find reading with the Hanson-Roberts to be rather comfy.

But the deck that I seem to connect most with right now is my very first one, my Rider-Waite. I have bonded with it longer and better than I have any other deck, so it works hard for me. I've also used it as my primary study deck.

And I'm coming up on my first anniversary in studying Tarot...in about two weeks. :)

Me too!

The Motherpeace is the deck I have learned with and it is still my favorite one. I do also love my Robin Wood deck but the Motherpeace deck is still the deck that resonates the most with me.

I am studying Goddess spirituality and this is how I was introduced to the Motherpeace deck.

I'm currently in love with the World Spirit deck. I love that the borders are black and the colors of the artwork are deep and vibrant. The mini book that comes with it is great. The interpretations are really modern and down to Earth.

Daria  06 Jul 2002
Am I the only one who loves the Art Nouveau deck? I think it's such a beautiful deck. I have several decks but use mostly the Art Nouveau and Templar (of course).

Starfish  06 Jul 2002
Daria -

Which Art Nouveau deck? The Matt Myers one, or the Lo Scarebo? Not that it really matters from my personal point of view, since I like them both... :D

I just got the Matt Myers Art Nouveau, it was a bargain at ebay :)
I haven't used it for reading yet, but I like it, it also looks sort of elegant because the cards are a narrower size. There are also some sexy men on them :D
I'm planning to get the loScarabeo one as well (*sigh* not another one...), I like art nouveau and these are the only items I can afford (especially since I HAVE to have new decks all the time...)

I just got the Olde English last week. While I'm not exactly comfortable with reading pips, I love playing with this deck and looking at the pictures. The muted, rich colors and the simpleness of the images is very appealing. They are gentle and relaxing.

However, the VR is currently ruling my heart. I've had it for awhile, but only tried reading with it about two weeks ago. (I wanted to work more on learning the UW, but got impatient!)

The Court cards make sense in this deck! The fact that they are real people with interesting stories to tell has helped me connect with the Courts.

I also love the Aces in the VR, especially the Ace of Wands!

Now, is it naughty of me to be already eyeing a St. Petersberg deck? I need to get more familar with the decks I've already got!
But I still want it NOW!!! :)

Daria, I also adore the Matt Myers Art Nouveau. It's my personal deck that I only read for myself with and don't let anyone else touch. (which makes it really time-consuming to show it to people... they have to sit there and watch me flip the cards if they want to see them...) I actually get kinda upset when I read bad reviews of it, I guess because I know the flaws and wish it were different in a few small ways but I love it anyway. It and I had a rocky start but with the proper love, it seems happy. I'm especially pleased with it today because it gave me a great reading last night! :D

Daria  11 Jul 2002
Hey Kellinator,

What kind of criticism did the deck get? The only think I can think of is that I wish it didn't have the white border.

Daria  11 Jul 2002
Man, some days I can't write. I meant the only THING I could think of...

Kellinator  11 Jul 2002
Hi Daria,

The most negative review I read basically called the minor arcana storylines silly and insipid. It distilled the Pentacles down to "guy and girl do a craft project," which I think totally misses the point of the deck. Especially because I love the artisan theme of the Pentacles.

One of my friends thought the deck was a little *too* romantic, which I can see. And I do wish the Knights and Kings were a little more distinguishable from each other (really, I wish there were Princesses instead of Pages). But overall I think it's a wonderful, gorgeous deck.

Kellinator

Jewel  12 Jul 2002
Another criticism of the deck is that the characters are "barbie-dollish" ... Personally I like the deck and barbie dolls do not bother me.

Daria  14 Jul 2002
barbie-dollish? Well, maybe the people are too pretty but I like pretty. I never thought about the pentacles becoming a guy and girl craft project. Since I have several decks and tend to interpret the cards the same no matter which deck I'm using, I guess I didn't think of that.

Mlle Lenormand  14 Jul 2002
My favourite deck for myself are my Universal Love cards (produced in Melbourne, Au). They give me a real lift.

My favourite deck for reading for other people is the Hudes Tarot Deck. But reading all the other posts, I can see that I'll have to get a Thoth deck.

WolfSpirit  15 Jul 2002
When I got the art nouveau deck I was a bit confused, I did not know there were two and I had the LoScarabeo in mind. I'm not disappointed though, I'll just have both :D
The colours on the Matt Myers are just so gorgeous. There are soo many decks that have for World a naked woman with a perfect body and that has never bothered me one bit, but this deck has for world a fully covered woman and some scantilly dressed men for a change :D
But my favourite cards have nothing to do with this: the death card (dancing skeleton) and ace of cups with the fish swimming around the cup are just true gems.

divinerguy  15 Jul 2002
I have a bunch of decks of all different types. But I seem to go back to two decks, the Mini-Motherpeace and the Pocket Sized Rider-Waite. They're simply convenient to use on a small desk top.

I'm re-discovering Tarot of a Moon Garden. I've had it for a while but never used it much because the images struck me as very 'young'. That's true, they are 'young' but they are also deceptively 'simple' and it is in going back over the cards that you begin to see the symbols and zone in on their meanings. I'm finding out it is a richer deck than I originally thought.

Robin Wood and Osho Zen hold top honours for me, but I have been so surprised by my reaction to the Tarot of Oz. I bought this deck on a whim because I grew up with the Oz stories. And the amazing thing is I sat down and read the entire lwb (which is fairly large) and connected. I have done several readings with it and it connects for me so strongly. It seems to make my intuition flow. I seem to reach for it most times at the moment.
But really, I like them all, Chinese, Ancestral Path, Templar.

So I took the deck, did a reading...made perfect sense. So it was as if the deck had called out to me offering help.
I never got the book on robin wood - do you think it would be useful ?

I used the Robin Wood only for 6 years, and while I ususally get the books, this deck didn't need it for me. The images just spoke for themselves....I really never saw the need for it. Read with it awhile, I bet you won't need the book either!

This is my first post on this forum. I've been reading on and off for a few months, and my wife Riversea has posted sometimes. I have only been studying Tarot for a few months, and I use each of my three decks for different purposes.

I have the Osho Zen deck, which I use for drawing a daily card. I find it to be very useful and get a lot of guidance and inspiration from the both the cards and the book.

I have the Thoth deck, which I use for study. I really enjoy the richness of the symbolism and the intellectual power of the cards.

Last week, I got the Cosmic Tribe deck, which I guess I just got for me. I think it will become my primary deck. I love the combination of power and playfulness in the images. For the moment, at least, it is my favorite.

Welcome, Landon! :)

You're working with three very popular decks, I think you've made good choices. It sounds like youv'e made a great start. Please keep us informed of your progress.

Right this minute it's still the Universal Rider/Waite/Smith.
It's the deck I reach for if I only have a moment to do my three card reading, or if I am headed out the door and only have a moment to choose a deck to bring along.

I've been drawn to the Halloween Tarot lately. It's enough like rider-waite and easy to understand, but different enough to be very interesting and amusing. The colors are great, it's happy and fun and not overly complicated.
