card sleeves for tarot decks?

I found a pack of card sleeves for usual collecting cards and so I was wondering if something similar also exists for tarot cards (I am not so inclined to make them myself and I dropped the idea of having my fav decks laminated after reading the "Laminating decks" thread.

Any other ideas/suggestions on that?

Catlin,

The only problem I would see is it would be difficult to shuffle.

If you try it, let us know how it works.

Blessings,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by card sleeves... Could you explain a bit about what they are please?

I guess puting the cards into little clear plastic pockets would be a good way of easily veiwing all the cards... you could keep them all in a file I guess, sort of make up a big book of decks. Not really 'me' (I am way too unorganised and I don't think you would really get the same feel for the deck..) but I can see why you might do it. You wouldn't do it for a deck you used all the time... Hmm... interesting...

If you mean putting them into clear pockets (i.e. 4 to page to put in a three ring binder) then yes you can find these. Here in the US I have found them at sports collectors stores where they collect all sorts of sports cards.

I have thought of that...Not for the deck I use the most of course..It would be a great way to show your friends and family who are interested without them getting all sorts of slimy things on the cards.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about this. If you did this, where would you store the decks' original packaging? For collectors, the original packaging is pretty important stuff....

Kiama,
Maybe in a box..or better a waterproof tote..Then you could put it away and not worry about anyone ripping the box open trying to look at the cards.

Hi folks,

I tried the thingy with the clear card sleeves (no idea how to call them properly in English - it was printed on the plastic baggy in which I bought those sleeves in) on my Hanson Roberts deck. They are just thin plastic bags you slip over each card to protect them. Of course the cards do not shuffle with that in the "normal" way, I now have to shove them around on the table which works well on a plain wooden table or on a table with tiles on it or with a very slippery table cloth.

Of course I kept the box of the deck although I could not store this "sleeved" deck in its original box but I housed it in a nice tarot bag (boy I am an avid collector of bags, too).

Hm, the idea with the ringbinder is not bad in case I wish to show some collector decks to my tarot friends. The only problem is you do not get the plastic pockets in a suitable tarot size here in Germany :( :(

Oh Kaz,

That would be great!!!!

Are the sleeves individual, in which you put one card, or are they in groups of four which you put in a ringbinder?

Kaz  16 May 2002
i don't know yet what kind of different sorts there are.
i know they exist, as i have seen them, as far as i remember, there are the ones with 4 compartments and with 6.
i will have a look around for them, and post what i have found.

I have sleeves with 4 compartments for photos. They are A4 size with 23 rings. The compartments are standard photo size, which is 10x15 centimetres (3,94x5,9 inch). The sleeves have compartments on both sides, so you can put 8 photos/cards in one sleeve.

Kaz: you can get these at the Hema. ;)

PS: I just had to be in the shop that sells them, so I checked: a package of 10 sleeves (which can hold 80 photos/cards) costs €2,61. They are available with a black and with a white background.

I know there are individual ones you can get somewhere... Loads of kids had them during the Pokémon craze....

catlin  16 May 2002
Yep, I remember that Pokémon craze but I did not get another model of the sleeves although I asked in a shop specialized in such stuff.

thanks tarotlady, those are the ones i meant yes.
i think catlin and others mean those 1 card plastic holders, those dont fit in a 23 ring, maybe in the thing where you put your bankpapers in. the papers where it says what you did with your money, whats it called, dunno, reçu?

You can buy different sized sleeves for cards from COMIC BOOK SHOPS - you can either buy individual sleeves, or a page of 4 - 12 sleeves, depending on the size of the cards you want to insert. The page sleeves come with pre-punched holes so you can slip them into a ring binder and gaze at them allllllllllll day! I'm a major comic book and card collector, so I use these a lot - and their quite cheap! You could buy a page of sleeves, and carefully cut and separate them - this could be cheaper than buying individual sleeves. Go to any comic book shop, and take along any cards you want to fit - the sales person won't look at you funny - there are weirder comic cards out there than most tarot decks! Infact, I am considering using some of my comic cards as tarot cards - there are amazing cards out there that you could swear came from a tarot deck - maybe I should try to post them on this board? (not sure how to do that yet, though)...

OOH OOH OOH - I have a flash! If anyone wants these sleeves (page-style or individual) - I can buy em and trade em for tarot decks. Heh heh heh - I'm so sneaky - learnt from the best :D LOL

Hi all,
My eldest son plays Magic the Gathering. The comic book shop sells card protectors for the individual cards. You can shuffle and use the cards and still have them protected from damage. They work very well and it is very easy to shuffle the cards with the protectors on. However, the sleeves add a lot of thickness to a deck! I imagine it would make a tarot deck about three times as thick as it would be without the protector sleeves. I don't think I could shuffle a deck with that much thickness. Also, the protectors were the right size for Magic the Gathering cards so I don't think they would work for all tarot cards. The sheets that fit in a three-ring binder come in a variety of sizes. These sheets were originally designed for baseball card collectors but might work for some tarot cards. I would think this would work for displaying a deck but I don't think it would be too good if you wanted to actually use the deck. Most baseball card collector shops or comic book shops would have these.
