the feng shui deck is beautiful.
big glossy cards in brilliant and deep colours.
it feels wonderful to handle.
but has anyone ever figured out how to use it yet?
i am so close to give up on it and just trade it away.
but would like to hear if anyone of you have mastered this deck yet.
i guess i could keep it just to look at it.
want to see it?

I have this deck, but don't use it. I don't like the way Connoly has changed the suits, and taken away most of the imagery from the Minor Arcana... Yes, she's left in illustrated Minors, but the ilustrations really don't speak to me. Maybe its cuz the animate objects in the Minors are animals, and as such we don't get the emotions from their faces or stances as we would humans..
Its a nice deck for a collection though.

I just got this deck, too. I haven't tried to read with it yet.
This is really only because I ended up getting 7 decks in this past week (a rare event from someone who only used to get a deck about every 6 months) and I am taking the time to get to know them to see which ones I would read with, and which ones are more for "eye candy".
I know that one problem I have with cards is if they are *too* glossy they become harder for me, Captain Graceless, to shuffle. I end up doing the 78 pick-up spread. The Feng Shui deck might fall into this catagory, depending on how my first shuffles go.
I do like the artwork and the element/animal factors though. I wish I knew a little more about Feng Shui in general to "get it" better.

I've been ambivalent about buying this deck for a while. I kind of wanted it, kind of didn't, wasn't sure...
However, I went to Borders today and there it was! Obviously a sign that I should get it, and I did. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet, but so far I'm enjoying it a lot.
You may have seen the same post on the Victoria Regina topic. Yes, I felt the same way about both of them, and got them both today, because I walked into Borders, and there they were.
I'm not sure about reading with this one, but it does have great pictures...l

It's on my wish list, simply because I really like the artwork.
Haven't got a clue whether I'll be able to work with it, although I do know a little bit about feng shui (but probably not enough).
However, I wouldn't mind if it turned out I couldn't work with it, some decks I just like to have because of the artwork.

I have thought about getting the deck..I decided not to because I have a deck of feng shui cards to use in your home.. (32 cards)..Plus I have a book on feng shui..I didn't feel the need for a tarot deck of it also.

I saw on the news today that there is a guy in California who specializes in Feng Shui haircuts to balance your chi. Getting Earth haircuts for a couple hundred dollars a piece...
Is there a larger companion book to go with this deck? I only got the cards themselves since that version was what was at the bookstore at the time.

I believe there will be a book published for this deck in the future.

Cool!
Can anyone recommend a good step one Feng Shui book in the meantime? (Is there a Feng Shui for dummies or Idiot's guide out there somewhere?)

Also, check out the books by Simon Brown (going on memory here). There are 2 books about FS by Karen Kensington (Kingston???) called "Space Clearing" and "Creating Sacred Space".
Be warned though, FS isn't really a one step deal!
P.S. Yes, I have seen a "for dummies" book on FS....

I haven't checked out Feng Shui for Dummies itself, but just as a general note, the Dummies series is surprisingly useful in most instances. The books are written in easy language, but they are very dense, with lots of practical information on whatever the subject at hand is. For example, I found information in "Judaism for Dummies" that cleared up some confusion for me on a few points, and I was raised Jewish, with religious school and the whole bit. My coworkers, most of whom are better-read than I, have said favorable things about the series too. So it may very well be that if you want an overview of feng shui, the Dummies book is a good choice.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep an eye out!
I know to understand that dipping my toe in might mean taking a swim (meaning one good book on a subject always deserves another) but you can never have enough books on anything, just less room in your house.....

Just got this deck, thanks Molly, and I've been trying to find some kind of information on why these particular animals were used and what they represent. Here is a website that some of you may find helpful (I got a little out of it, but it's very WORDY so I'll have to go back and read it again, it think).
http://www.qi-whiz.com/animals.html
Good luck wading through it!
I also read that these animals are used in practical Feng Shui in relation to your outdoor environment. The Turtle would be in back of your house in the form of a large hill or mountain, something that "covers your back". The Phoenix would be a wide open space in front of you preferably with a view of running water. The Dragon is to your left with more hills on that side. The Tiger is to your right and the lower, sloping hills are over there. Something along those lines.....

I do not own this deck, but ideas that have come to mind when having a similar experience with a deck are:
1) Decoupage ... a table perhaps
2) Lay them out on a table and put a piece of glass over them (just in case some day I change my mind and want to use the cards)
3) Frame them in groupings.
Granted I have never actually done any of these things, but I sure have thought about them ... one day I probably will.
