Do you think its possible to lose your connection with a deck? drift apart from it?
a friend of mine feels she has drifted from her rider waite, like that they don't work together anymore. she said she felt like she'd changed as a person and didnt have much of a connection with it anymore.
i thought about this...surely if you're using your deck then your energy is mixed enough with it so it changes with you.
so i asked if people had been touching, influencing it with their energy so she lose sher connection with it.
she said she only uses it.
humph.
she has been using it pretty reguarly, and people dont touch it much, so what could it be?
i started asking about her astral projection, but i think its such a long shot that something from that couldve affected it. i dont know.
any ideas?

yah i totally know how that feels. i just had that a month ago with the deck i've been using for four years now (ancestral path) and it just stopped working. i found it extremely difficult to read with and no matter how i try i just couldn't get into it again.
i'm putting it aside for the time being and learning my chinese deck. hopefully after awhile i'll come back to it and find it as helpful as it was to me before once again. i know this didn't help at all, but just letting you know that it does happen and all you can do is try something else then maybe go back to it later.

Mmmm. I have not come across this myself I have several decks that i work with and a couple that i am undecided on . I can read these occasionally and then i have to put them away for a while. My regular decks just get better and better, the more i use them..As for a person changing...we all change...we are constantly changing, day by day, hour by hour so what we see in the cards will change as well...
I think of the cards as a doorway, I guess if someone looses the key then the door wont open for them...The Tarot is the Tarot it doesn't change...We do and we can loose a key occasionally:TFOOL

I suppose some people "mature" for want of a better word from deck to deck. What starts out as a great deck to begin with and learn from becomes perhaps a little stale after a while and they need something a bit more challenging or a deck that offers something more intuitivitely inspiring.
I often find (like Original Destiny) that my decks work for me, but from time to time I need to put a deck away and use another for a little while. Just to keep them fresh, or perhaps give them a little rest.
Your friend may find that she will go back to her RW deck later after using her new deck for a while because suddenly she feels that 'need' to use it and then it will work really well for her.
I don't think this is terribly unusual, especially considering all those wonderful decks available out there and the temptations this forum will bring to purchase them.
I'd suggest that she get another deck, something a bit more challenging that will make her think harder when she is reading with them, and keep hold of her RW because inevitably she may go back to using it from time to time.

I have recently bought the Faeries' Oracle and the Osho Zen tarot and my original deck, The Celtic Dragon has been so lonely. I love the Celtic Dragon but right now I feel like it is better left alone, I am so connected with my two new decks that I've not even touched my Celtic Dragon deck. However even though I could make a little money if I sold the deck I don't think I could because I certainly hope I will be able to connect with it again one day. Perhaps your friend needs to use a new deck for a while and then return to the old deck.

It seems to me that it is not just the energy one invests in a deck of cards but the images themselves. I have an old Aquarius deck that I had when I was a teenager but it is like finding some old toy in the attic sometimes when I use them. Sometimes that is comforting but other decks that I've gotten since then all have their own ambiance about them. I use a deck based on my mood or which one works for what I'm thinking about.
I think if your friend has lost a connection with their cards then it is time to add a new "friend" to their circle of decks. After all it's the images which speak to you and reflect what's inside of you, not just the energy that you've put into their use. Besides, maybe their cards need a vaction. :)

My Robin Wood was the first deck I had a real connection to. I used it exclusively for about 6 months then things began to fall off a bit. I started not seeing things as easily as before. So I set it aside and began using other decks for a while.
Then it hit me - even though I was the only one touching it (for the most part) I realized it needed to be cleansed. It had built up to much "stuff" so every reading was a bit murky.
I've never cleansed a deck this way before, but Robin Wood seemed like she wanted to be put on a crystal cluster for a couple of days then set in the full moon to be recharged.
The deck just seemed lighter afterwards. Just something to think about. Maybe your friend's deck just needs to be cleansed and set aside to recharge????

faunabay: i suggested cleansing her deck too, i think really puifying the energy and getting rid of all th emuck she's aquired might help. :)

i've lost connection with a deck before. sometimes it comes in a few years and sometimes it's just time to move on!
it's, IMO, the decks way of letting you know that you are ready for a different, perhaps more difficult deck!
i consider it growth!!!
