Hi all
Love the mythic tarot but hate the quality of the cards! I got my first set which fell apart in 2 weeks. Got the second set, and they are so thin they almost feel like paper! Really irritating me! Has anyone else with the mythic tarot experienced this? Are they badly made or is this done for a reason? Thanks a lot!

Hi, Pumog!
Yep - I remember posting on this earlier: probably in one of the debates on suitable decks for beginners or something similar. I seem to recall someone explaining that it may be something to do with the fact that they're published independently and the quality's not as good. Unfortunately I don't think you're going to find this deck in the thickness you'd like.

Hmmm, I was actually thinking of buying this deck, but I might not now. Oh well, I might just get it to have in my collection.

This is disappointing to hear. I still have my *very* well used, 15 year old Mythic deck. The card stock is quite good.
Have you considered writing to the publisher and advising them of this? I used to work in the printing industry and I am sad to say that there are numerous stories of mass printings where the printers used inferior paper stock yet charged the client for higher grade stuff. Clients usually oblivious. And who knows - they may offer you your money back.
Alternarively, you could laminate your newer deck.....

I have noticed that my Mythic Deck is much thinner than other decks I have. Guess it's a good thing I don't use it much.

I just got my Mythic recently. What I have heard is that there is two versions and the newer one has the better card quality. So far mine seems fine, not flimsy or cheap at all.

Hi, Marie!
I'd be interested to know how recently you got yours - mine is probably only 4 months old. Is there any way to tell the difference? I know that over here the deck is relatively cheap on its own, which is probably a give-away as to the quality of the cards.

I've recently bought the Mythic Tarot as well and the card stock is just fine. It's thicker than a couple other decks that I have. I bought it about 3-4 weeks ago.
I hope you get a new deck with better card stock quality because it's a very interesting deck. I like mine quite a bit.

I believe the new one is in the more yellow packaging, while the old one was packaged in black.

I got mine in January or February of this year. Its in a yellow box with the Empress on the front. I think the old one has a different colored box. I also heard the book that came with the old version fell apart really fast.

This is the truth. The book I got with my deck, which was several years ago is literally falling apart. Now, it's basically a stack of pages with a cover around them.

The cover came away from the spine of my book pretty much immediately.
I have the flimsy version too, and I bought it new only a few years ago (wasn't it first released in '85 or so?)

I love my Mythic deck very much & always use it for readings. It is well received and related to by all my clients. I have been using my deck for 10 years now and only recently bought a back up deck in case of loss, not because they are in bad shape. They have held up well for so many readings. I highly reccomend this deck. I am sorry to hear yours was thin. I do hope you find a better quality paper as they are worth having. ~Madonna

Yes it was released in 1985. That's the date of mine.....and the book that came with it then was hardcover and whiel the spine is well used and shows it, it's still held together. It sounds like the publishers received alot of complaints & decided to action the card stock problem....

About writing to the publisher. I will do that and send them one of the "cards" to prove my point perhaps. I'm getting rather disillusioned with buying tarot cards now as I had the same story with the Cosmic Tribe. Adored the cards, but again they fell apart double quick. Yet my ancient Robin Wood deck, which isn't even laminated, though dog eared has survived fine!

wow, i never knew the mythic deck was this easily damaged. i actually just got the deck about 3 weeks ago and haven't started to use it. with regards to the actual deck, i think it's well done and the book is good as well, save the fact that the spine gets messed up when u open just a bit too much.
thanks for posting about this guys, i'll make sure to take care of the deck then...

My Mythic cards are thin as well, however I really like them the pictures are very pretty.
My book that came with them is in very sad condition with very little use. I've had my deck since 1998, (My how time flys!) I was disapointed in the book quality. It fell apart immediatly.
I don't read very often so the deck is in mint shape.
However, after owning it past the time I could exchange it I discovered that it contains Two 7 of Cups and NO 6 of Cups!( I still dont know what to do about this) A friend of mine marked one of the 7s with a number 6 as it annoys him, lol.
I just purchased a new Mythic deck for a friend in west Memphis, AR as an Xmas gift on Dec.18, I had it shipped straight to him, so as soon as he gets it I will post what his observance of the quality is.
Wondering should I order myself a new deck as well, due to no real 6 of Cups?
Thin cards or not this is a great deck, in my humble personal opion.

Hi Mamm1
ive read where others have contacted the publishers and have had the card shipped to them... try it who knows they may help you out there. good luck
i got my Mythic Deck off ebay, the cards were abit used but nicely and yes the book spine is pretty well shot but so far no pages have been falling out, 98 version as well.
I do love this deck, and wasnt into greek mythology and i connect really well with it and happy i purchased it and quite reasonable i might add.
Happy Holidays to all :)

Hi,
I won the deck on ebay..VERRY USED. anyway it was missing the 10 of pentacles and the judgement card was damaged.
I contacted the publisher... www.simonsays.com ... They responded immediately and told me they would send out replacments are no charge.
For me the deck was just an addition to the collection so quality is not top priority.
I wish ya all luck with the newer ones..It might be worth hunting down one that was published by someone else..
Blessings

I have the Mythic set. Mine is the edition in the yellow packaging.
I've had it for about 6 mths or so. The paperback book is holding up well a couple of creases in the spine from reading but it is holding tight. The cards seem to about the same thickness as my copy of the Russian St Petersburg, a little thin but holding up well. I don't use it alot maybe 10 readings in the time I have had it. I use a mix of shuffling some hand over hand som bridge, but when I bridge shuffle it's very gently.

i bought the older version in the dark blue/black box. I bought this from a man at a psychic fare, he had a lot of old inventory that he was trying to get rid of, so I didn't pay too much. It was still shrinkwrapped, but when I opened it up the book fell apart as soon as I touched it. The glue that held the spine together had dried out I think. The cards are flimsy and I haven't used them at all. The newer version sounds better!

Hi everyone!
Well, I'm learning on the Mythic Tarot set and I really like the Greek Mythology stories... it's a great way to remember the cards.
Also, when I brought the set (with the book and silk cloth) I realised that there are two Magician's in the pack, so there are 79 cards.
A good omen I hope! :)
