yay! i just now stopped by a swedish auction-site and won on the Native American Tarot. a deck i seen at a local new age shop where they wanted 450kr (or about $45- $48 us dollars) for it.
i always been itching to buy it anyway - not because i love the art or anything - just because it is a tarot and i can't help myself:)
well, now i got it for less then $6 so i am happy.
when it comes to native american decks i am not all that thrilled though, i do love my vision quest, i thought medicine woman was pretty ok but not really my thing.
i have a feeling i won't be totally in love with this one. but i might like it!
it looks a bit beige though. very flat art-work.
anyone here got it and worked with it?
is it a deck you use?
or one in the drawer that you hardly notice is there?
and while i am at it with the questions - which is the BEST native american deck according to you?

Yes this is the deck that I have. I make a few references to it in some of my posts. I have had wonderful exeriences with this deck. It was my first deck and I got it about 11-12 years ago. I would love to talk to you about it. PM me if you want. :TMOON

I still got this one but it does not click with me. I ordered it as I wanted a deck to go with my Shaman wisdom cards (I did not want to use my Vision quest as it is hard to replace) but this deck does not speak to me.

I can understand why many people would have a hard time with this deck. For some the art is a turn off. I was a bit unimpressed by the work but through using it, I came to appriciate it. A deck is not about the art but the symbology and the meaning. This deck made me aware of a past life through one card. And that happened after I had the deck for 4 years. For some one who has a deep interest in the Native American traditions, this deck is very interesting and right on.

I have the Native American Tarot and I get good readings from it. I have a high sensitivity to colors so I get along better with decks that use softer coloring. Really bright colors just make noise to me. So, this deck is nice.

as i was out planting some flowers the packaged arrived.
of course i couldn't wait but had to open it right away, with dirt under my fingernails and all:)
my first impression is better then i expected. i don't think i ever thought i would like the deck - but i do. the muted earth-colours are only fitting and i think i can learn a thing or two from this deck.
took one card as a hint on what to expect and got: X Medicine Wheel.
it makes me remember the herbal deck that was my main-deck for a long time.
this is one deck where i will use the LWB to get to know the cards better.

This is a nice LWB that comes with the deck. Some of the grammer might be hard to work through, but there's not much of that. The thing that is great about it is that it has alot of info about Native American traditions and history.
I'm glad that you like it, it's such a missunderstood deck. There are 3 of us, we can start a study group!!!hehe..
The Medicine Wheel...growth comes by traveling the wheel. Eventhough we are born in one spot, if we do not make our way around we lose our potential.

i got the native american book when i saw it in the u.s. games catalog they release for tarot cards and i had my book retailer order it
let me see
the major arcanna on the average have a whole page and the other side of a page,
and some of the minor arcana has as well.
lots of native history is explained like the trail of tears,
it has the kachina kife spread.
the medicine wheel spread,
native cross
aztec prymid spread
shining star spread
the horns 6 card spread
a four page section on how to mediate using the major arcana with a scent color mediation and affirmation for each
a six page section on how to lay out the cards for the prosperity visuatlion spread, for health, for love, for conententment, and something called the visualaztin for the abode, for justice, for enlightment, and for wisdom.
appendix a relationship among the higher cards,
appendix b a corrleation with the higher arcana cards.
which relates the major arcana to stuff like the shamanic journey, alchemy, old testment,
8 page of a bibloigraphy
and the first few pages called the blendings give a histoy of the authors and their backgrounds i.e. tribewise and education

I'm reviving an old thread because I just received this deck and the accompanying book. I haven't had time to do more than glance through the book and cards, but I just had to say something about my initial impressions.
This is a deck I never thought I would get. The artwork turned me off. But I'm so glad I finally got it. It's exactly what I feel like the Shining Tribe or the Vision Quest should be... a deck which has Minors that have more of a spiritual dimension when you want them, while at the same time being coherent and straightforward, which is something I miss in the Shining Tribe minors. And I like the artwork now. It's not pretty like Vision Quest, but it's powerful and somehow seems "right." The Court cards are drawn with real expression, more than in just about any deck I can think of except maybe the Spiral.
The book, from what I can tell, is very thoroughly written, and the authors often refer to Case, Crowley, Eden Gray and others, so they've certainly studied the standard Tarot literature. I'm really looking forward to studying the book and reading with the deck. I really, really like it, and I think it deserves a second look by anyone who may have passed it by.
