Oh no. I've done it again...

*yipe...*

I got my newest deck addition yesterday, the Mountain Dream Tarot (like the images, but the card stock makes me nervous - I just know I'm going to ruin the deck if I ever try to shuffle it!). And what happens today? I go find myself a new deck that I just need to have... Why does my wish list always have to be a mile long??

Sigh. Does anyone know anything about Margarete Petersen? She is the artist of a Tarot deck that has found it's way towards my longing eyes... All the sites I find about her are in German, and just getting through the text takes forever...! I haven't spent an awful lot of time looking for more information, wanted to share the below links and ask you guys - since I know you've got all info worth knowing...! So...? Anyone know more about her?

Whaddaya like them cards huh?? The artwork seems beautiful, even though I would like to see some more before I decide to spend €30 on the deck...! (And have the book translated into English at least, German ain't doing me all that good...! :D)

Light and love,
Jenny :)

How pretty!!! I like the cards I could see so far. But I'll bet it would be a collector's deck only, not a reading deck.
I love all the reds and blues in the sample cards!!!

I recently acquired the Margarete Petersen Tarot, and it is a *beautiful* deck. I would consider this a deck best suited for meditation as opposed to divination, as the artwork is evocative and ephemeral and not traditional. The cards are quite large (5 1/2" x 3 3/4"), and would be very difficult to shuffle. Each card is a work of art, and I wouldn't want to damage them by excessive shuffling.

The minor arcana suits are Munzen (coins), Kelche (cups), Flammen (flames), and Federn (feathers). The court cards are Mutter (mother), Vater (father), Tochter (daughter), and Sohn (son). The images on some of the minor arcana cards are difficult to tell what number they represent, although the titles/numbers are listed on the bottom of the cards (in German).

The backs of the cards vary slightly from card to card, with a multicolored beaded wavy line pattern overlaying a winding snake.

The 80-page booklet that comes with the deck is in German. This deck was first available as Major Arcana only postcards. Unfortunately, I do not know much else about the artist Margarete Petersen, other than she is very gifted. These are some of the most beautiful cards I have had the pleasure to view, particularly the Major Arcana. The deck comes in a sturdy box, and the booklet fits inside it. Highly recommended for those who like expressive decks, like Haindl, Thoth, and Tarot of the Spirit.

As far as I know Ms Petersen spent 22 years on the creation of this deck. The postcard book was long before the deck available. I am also toying around with adding this deck to my collection as it is the first edition of this deck.

There was an exhibition of the Petersen artwork in Hamburg if I recall it correctly.

Yes one of the pages in German I wrote about was about that exhibition, it seemed interesting, but... I spent half an hour reading it and still didn't get more than half of it... :(

Anyway, I will get this deck, I just fell completely for her artwork! It will have to wait for more prosperous times though - so it's a good thing it has been recently released, hopefully it won't go OOP quite already... :)

Catlin, perhaps I will bother you with an occasional "what-the-heck-is this-supposed-to-mean"-PM when struggling with the German book - is that OK with you? ;)

Light and love,
jenny :)
