Pagan 2000 or Hallowquest?

I'm stuck between the Pagan 2000 Tarot deck and the Hallowquest Arthurian deck by Caitlin and John Matthews... Can anyone help me out with the choice?

my choice here would be arthurian deck

The thing is, I am having real problems finding the Pagan 2000 Tarot... So I thought I would save myself the trouble by getting it now, whilst I still can... But I really like the theme of the Hallowquest, and the book would be interesting to read...

Practicality, or another themed deck?

the arthurian might be a better deck but you live in the UK and getting a copy shouldn't be too difficult. i'd go for the pagan 2000 b/c it's rarer and may even be out of print now. whereas the arthurian just went back into print in UK based on the matthews website. the only place i ever found a copy was thru amazon probably b/c of their UK connections. every other place i tried couldn't get it in the states. go for the pagan 2000. it'll probably be a more valuable deck in the future.

Hi

I have to say I LOVE the Pagan 2000 tarot it is so colorful and artsy. The majors are just stunning and even though this has pips for minors they are some of the prettyiest I have ever seen. Below is the link to order it from the publisher (which i did in the states) let me know how it goies :)

this site is in cornwall. is there one in the US that sells the pagan 2000? the price is excellent tho--$13.15 usd if i did the conversion right.

The only sites I have found in the US are much more expensive (around $45.00) for the deck. I ordered mine from the publisher when they first came out and even with shipping the deck and book came to under $20.00 and that was to the US. mine came w the cards (no box) and book. The book is also one of the neatest that I have in my collection as the author goes into some different aspects of the cards. My only problems were that there are still perferations from where the cards were atached and I am a big stickler for the cardboard boxes for the decks. (my prefered storage :) ) The deck came in about 2 weeks (really fast shipping) and was packed very well. Please keep us informed if you buy it what you think. I have to say it is one of my favorite decks even with my preference for illustrated minors.

I saw this available locally for £18.50p ie double the price. I'm going to see if I can get hold of it online, as someone might want it in a trade.

If I keep it, I'll need another Tarot Tote bag for it ... I'd better go and have another look at what they've got :)

I will have the best of both worlds... I .

I try to find the Pagan 2000 through a German book shop which was already trying to spot the Greenwood deck for me (in vain :( so I'll keep you informed how things turned out.

Jewel  06 May 2002
Hi Kiama! I have both of these and say you want both *LOL*. If you really can only choose to get one get the Pagan 2000, preferably with the book ... both deck and book are out of print. I got my copy of the deck and a book at the Tarot Garden. As noted by Truthsayer they are reprinting the Arthurian in England now so you should be able to get your hands on it much easier. But let me tell you a little about the Pagan 2000 first, that might help.

The cards are a little smaller than average which makes them nice for small hands. The minors are pips but are pretty but are pips not partial illustrations, each suit has a different color background. The majors are gorgeous and that is probably the only portion of the deck I will use in readings (until I can really read pips anyway). The cards are plastic coated and mine at least stick together, nothing a little powder cannot solve though. The book is really neat, you will definetly want it! Hope this helps.

Well, as usual, I ended up getting both decks! Fairyhedehog has been VERY kind and is helping poor little credit cardless me to get the Pagan 2000 deck and book set.. And I am getting the Hallowquest as my prize from TarotGarden...

Ah.. The best of both worlds is a wonderful place to be!

Kiama, save up for the Hallowquest book as well, it really adds a lot to the Arthurian deck.

Whats funny is that I have the Hallowquest Book, but not the cards.

I was doing a project on Authurian Legend one time and picked it up then. I will second the notion for the book, I actually enjoyed reading through it.

From a buyer standpoint, I would first set out for the rare deck to assure that it is placed into my hot little hands before they're all gone. Not that I am speaking from experience or anything...... *cough* *cough*

Congrats on your new decks Kiama! :) If you decide you are interested in the Hallowquest book you might want to start looking around. It is OOP. On Amazon here people are selling their copuies for USD $41 or something like that (I bought mine for $12 only 3 weeks ago!). Just thought I'd give you the heads up.

Kiama  10 May 2002
Yay! I got the Pagan 2000 two days ago... It was quick getting here! Only took a day!

Anyway... The Majors are absolute darlings! They really are gorgeous and sumptuous... The colours are lovly, and the way the artist has incorporated the interpretations of both the modern schools and not so modern schools is excellent.

The book too is wonderful! I learned to much about the history of the earliest decks found.. And even about the decks that weren't found, bt which we have records of from their creators... Excellent.

Everybody get this deck!

Kiama,

I just had this really strong feeling when I first read your post that you'd end up with both decks. :D Hmmmm...now, why would I have ever thought that????? :P ;)

Enjoy, enjoy! :)

Hugs,
Jimilyn
