Deck specifically used for spellwork?

Good Morning,
I just did my intro in the new members forum and have my first question.
I am wondering if anyone has a deck that they use for spellwork/ritual/altarwork/magick???
For part of my studies I will be learning more about magick and I want to use the tarot in my work.
I don't want to tie up one of my two reading decks for days at a time with a spell since I use both decks daily.
How did you choose your deck for this purpose?
I have always read reviews and take into account what they say when purchasing a deck for reading purposes but I am thinking that maybe a deck for spellwork does not need to be a great deck for reading purposes. I will likely not use it for readings. I am most interested in the Major Arcana anyway for this purpose and thought I should just go with a deck that resonates strongly with me. That is what I was thinking about doing but I would love input from others with more experience than I??
What deck do you use for spellwork/magick/altarwork/ritual purposes?? What suggestions do you have for me?
I'm going to start looking at all the decks listed BUT would love to have some suggestions for decks to look at first.
Thanks so much :o)
Bright Blessings,
Momof6

I usually use either my Robin Wood, Wild Spirit or Fairy Wicca for spellwork. It depends on the mood I am in and the background of the spell.

good question!
i never thought of it before - but now i just might pick out a deck just for spell-work.
some deck that is clear and with not too many details to distract me, kind of happy feeling and not gloomy or dark.
a deck i know well but that i am not currently using for readings.
it probably will be the herbal tarot - since i also work a lot with herbs

Momof6: Welcome!
I use my Robin Wood deck primarily for ritualistic work, though its secondary use is for readings. The former was a natural since it is a Pagan-oriented deck. I find it lends itself superbly to the purpose. It images are clear & are supportive of such endeavors.
It is a good idea to designate a deck to avoid tying up a reading deck as that has happened to me.

A month or so ago, someone here said they use the Phantasmagoric Theater deck for spellwork... I wish I could remember who it was; wanna speak up, out there? It seemed like such an interesting choice of deck to use for that...

I have to nominate the Nefertari's Tarot. All that gold and very clear symbology works great !

Greetings Momof6 and merry meet! :)
I don't use the decks I read with for spells, since I feel this disturbs the energy of the cards. I have used the Universal Waite, but as catlin, I will also give my Fairy Wicca a try. This is a very spiritual deck, and I think it would be perfect for spell-work. :)

I don't reall do much tarot spell work, but when I do, I use the Celtic Dragon, Dragon, or Lord of the Rings tarot.

I just did my very first spell from Janina Renee's book Tarot Spells and I decided to use the Old English for it. I think it's very suitable as a spell deck, because the artwork of this deck is very beautiful.
I've also ordered the Art Nouveau en I think I'm going to like that one too for spells.

YOU HAVE A PM WAITING FOR YOU. THANKS.
Okay, I promise never, never to do that shouting thing again, everyone... unless of course one of you casually mentions that you have an unwanted copy of the PoMo. Or the Masonic, or... okay, never mind. ;)

I really appreciated the responses.
I had it down to the Goddess Tarot, Faery Wicca, and Robin Wood. I want to get all three eventually but decided to start with the Robin Wood deck. I should get it next week sometime. I just ordered it from Tarot Totes since I was ordering a bag to keep it in....I'm glad they sell some decks there as it makes shopping easier.
I looked at every single deck listed here on Aeclectic Tarot and that took forever!!! Glad I did it though. What is funny is that I ended up going with one of the decks that I had first felt would be a good one. (will I ever learn???!!! *lol*)
Hugs,
Momof6

Which tote did you get for your forthcoming Robin Wood? Any idea how long it takes to receive items from Tarot Totes (I haven't ordered from them yet and would like to).
I'm looking to get the Illumination set for my Robin Wood deck.

i'm too late for my post to qualify as advice, so, for conversational purposes only, here are my thoughts. :)
i agree that the deck you use for spellwork ought to resonate strongly with you, both symbolically and artistically. i sometimes spend a moment or two puzzling over the symbolism in my more beautiful decks, which is a handicap when working magic. right now i use my spare rider/waite, because it's the one i _know_ the best -- i can trust my emotional mind to read the images "true" and consistently. someday when i get a better grasp of the other decks in my collection, i'll be able to put it away.

Hi there Starfish,
I splurged a bit more on this tote since my Robin Wood deck will be my deck for ritual/spells etc...I got the leather deck with the toolwork lining.
I have ordered three separate times from Tarot Totes and their service is amazing and shipment is really fast! They also charge next to nothing for shipping charges, which I love.
I've ordered 4 totes, one spread cloth, and another spread cloth that they made larger which I use for an altar cloth.
I can't recommend them enough. Totally pleased.
Hope this helps answer your question :)
Hugs,

OOOhhhh, thanks Momof6 for the answer. Their items are beautiful. The leather totes are just stunning.
I am planning on going to a not so local New Age bookshop to look for a second deck for me tomorrow and will then place an order for totes/lay cloths for each deck.
