I'm getting paid pretty soon, and I'm hoping to knock the Gill off my wishlist and into my hot little hands. For those of you who have the Gill, do you also have the book? Is it a worthwhile companion book? I'm wondering if I should shell out a little extra to get the set or if I should just get the deck alone.
Thanks.

I am waiting for my copy to arrive, just FYI ... Amazon is no longer carrying the deck/book sets apparently. I ordered through them and then got a message saying that they were refunding my credit card and "not to re-order". To my knowledge deck and book are still in print, so I am real curious as to why amazon is not carrying the set anymore. If you are ordering it online you can special order it at Tarot Garden www.tarotgarden.com (a percentage of the sale goes to Aeclectic and they have excellent service), or I believe it is also available on Joan Bunnings site which I think is www.learntarot.com (if this link is wrong someone please put the right one). Amazon may carry the individual deck, but I have no clue.

There is a thread of not so long ago, where we discussed this.
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4366
I think we should make a habit of searching for old threads before starting new ones.
Keslynn, this is not personal! :)
I just mean that since the Forums have grown so much, and most of members are new to the tarot (so will possibly ask questions already answered) and most of the decks were discussed in the past (just think of how many decks a tarot-holic gets in a week ;) *LOL*), many questions might find an answer in past threads.
And, remember I am not a moderator, so you are free to send me to h€ll! :D *LOL*

Pollux: That thread is what convinced me to get the deck in the first place! :) In it, I saw several mentions of the book but only one little piece on it's content and whether it's worth getting. I was looking for some other opinions. I already know I want the deck so I wanted more info on the book. I know in that thread you mentioned wanting to get the book: have you yet?
And thanks for the heads up, Jewel.

Mhhh... I think there won't be more response than that... :(
The Gill is not so popular as you may have seen. And not so many of us are Deck+Book freaks! :P *lol*
I am though! :D
Unluckily I still haven't it. Well, I must tell Kiama to look for it first... *lol*
I think that Lee was giving a good description of the content. At least he's the only one that seems to have gone through the book around here... UFF, I really wish I could be of help right now... :(
Have you tried searching for quotes from the book?
Generally it is possible to find some...

I got the book after I had the deck for a while. I wasn't that impressed. :(
The book doesn't really talk about the cards as much as I would have liked. It goes more into the caballa. So if you want to learn more about that I'd say get it. (I know Jewel does!!!) But if you're looking for more information on the deck I'd say pass!!!

My experience with the book is that it is incredibly unhelpful if you want to know what a card means. I have found myself reading and rereading a passage over and over, trying to glean some applicable meaning out of it, and I don't end up with anything other than a headache. Frankly, I got a lot more out of Pollux's post about the Court cards in the thread mentioned above than I did with the book.

you don't need the book to read the deck, i don't have the book. but, since it's lots about kaballa, i would like to have it some time.

Keslynn -
I have the Gill on order and can't wait to receive it. I did NOT order the book since I'm not currently interested in learning about Kaballa.

Thanks for the tips about the book, guys... I too am planning to get the Gill and would just as soon not spend the extra $12 or whatever for the book if it's that unnecessary.

YIIIIIPPPPPEEEEEEEE! I just got my set in and to hear that the book has a focus on the Kabalah just thrills me to no end.
I could not find the praise and homage thread to this deck so I will just share here. This deck has my most favorite Empress of all time. And I also find that the words on the 2-10 pips do not bother me at all but really work well, and that is that do not like words on my cards. I think this deck will be great for gaining insight into what I now call "moody minors" (thanks for the term Lee). Fabulous deck! Pollux thanks for twisting my arm and forcing me to get this deck *LOL*
