I just started with Tarot about two months ago with the standard Rider-Waite deck, and now I'm looking for something a little more advanced. Any suggestions?

Ah, you have LOADS to pick from! Have you checked out the tarot review section with the sample photos of some of the cards on this site? Also... http://www.wicce.com/deckreviews.html is a good review site too. Happy Tarot Hunting!!!

What new deck you choose, really depends upon you. How well do you work with the RW? Are its meanings clear to you? Does a spread say more than the cards it contains? What direction do you want to go, readings for others or self-exploration (or both). How and why do you read? Within your own personal mythos and philosophy, what makes you tick? Do you want or need a new deck (the difference is significant)?
Make a list. Most folks go though life like a pinball, simply reacting. Make a list. Remember what you want. The deck you NEED will be found in the contents of the list.

the deck you need is morgan-greer. i promise, i promise. trust me. i mean...
when i started i was looking for a deck which would be easy to read...when i got morgan-greer it was perfect. the pictures are all the way across, it's like watching a film in widescreen. the colours are amazing. there is SO MUCH you can read into the cards...after a short while you'll know what they all mean just by seeing them in front of you. they're close to rider-waite, only artistic, and they're really quite amazing. definitely the deck to pick. -ben

I have to strongly disagree. I am not taking anything away from the Morgan-Greer deck (pretty, but defiantly not my style); however, it is more imperative that you know who you are, how you read, and where you want to go (what level you want to take your reading to).
To be more specific; do you read card meanings, or do you read from a more intuitive nature. What mythos and cultural persona do you identify with?
Advice comes from each of our pints of view. Two ships anchored in a harbor next to each other will have different ‘bearings’ or readings as to the exact direction a lighthouse lays. This is because neither ship occupies the same space.
Advice is not dissimilar.
Make your list, do the homework.

The New Pallidini is a good second deck for your case, it seems. but it is really up to you!

I agree with Umbrae on this one. I used to jump at the chance to recommend a deck to someone, now after what I have learned here at Aeclectic I have gained a new perspective on how to make that recommendation, and as state by Umbrae it is to help someone once they have defined their needs and likes/dislikes. I have a few other questions for you Tymilu:
1. Do you have a preference of swords=air, wands=fire or vice versa?
2. Do you have a preference for the position of Strength and Justice? some decks like the Raider Waite have Strength as 8 and Justice as 11, other decks like Thoth have Justice as 8 and Strength as 11.
3. Do you like the titles of the Majors to follow those of the Raider Waite? or, is it OK if they are a little different?
As you put your list together, as suggested by Umbrae, keep these questions in mind. Once you have made your selection post the decks you like and why you like them, and we can help you from there. You will see we will also come up with decks that compliment your choices as well.
You are also welcome to look at past threads on this same subject and to check out the Aeclectic information section where it talks about deck selection.
Hope this helps.

Also do you want pictures on the Minors or pips. Having started with the Rider Waite could you adjust to pip minors? I like having something to look at, I'm also learning with the Rider Waite but my primary reading deck is the Spiral, which is a sort of R/W clone.

You could also try an Oracle type deck for variety. My second deck was the Medicine Cards which was great for me, a very intuitive deck.
However, your tastes may vary. You could think of an interest of yours besides tarot, and then try to find a deck to combine to two interests. Or an art style.
Like music? You can get the Rock and Roll Tarot.
Like Fairy Tales? You could hunt down the Whimsicle or the Inner Child Cards.
Like Halloween? They got a Halloween Deck.
Like Disco? You might need some help on that one. I don't think there is a disco deck (though I'd love to see one).
Anyway, you get the idea.

Thanks for your help everyone. I think I'll just read a little more and see what feels best, because that sounds like what most of you are suggesting anyway.

We discussed a good 2nd deck. Maybe you might find useful informations here as well, regarding he choice, the parameters you should cnosider and so on...
Go with your Flow. Listen to what the decks say to you. And good luck :)

Yeah well ~giggles~ my ultimate favorite is the Cosmic Tribe and I think we ALL agree that that deck is not for everyone ... but I think it rules! If you think there is nudity in the Rhorig ~giggles~ ... well I'm just going to shut up now *LOL* :)

It may let it "all hang out" but after working with the deck the aspect I notice the least about it IS the nudity! The way the nudity is used is not in a sensual way, but in a natural way (as if clothes did not exist except to hide the truth), thus somehow it simply becomes a design element and not a focus ~shrugs~ ... I just love that deck!

Oh, it definately isn't used in a sexual way, I use to own the deck, traded it though. I didn't mean "let it all hang out" in a sexual way. I was just being funny.... (guess I'm bad at being funny)

At least Cosmic Tribe keeps the body parts where they belong instead of floating around randomly hehe
