Well at last I have found the deck for me! I thought Universal Waite was good, I love medeival scapini, sacred rose and other but Thoth comes out on top.
I purchased a small size deck a few weeks ago and ever since I have use it for my daily readings and sometimes when reading for others, I can get lost in the cards at times, looking at the detail, colours etc. Probably will get the larger size deck soon, the cards will come alive. My favourite card at the moment is the princess of wands-it is me and my life at the moment. I have the book by Gerd Ziegler - Mirror of the Soul, great book.
So I am asking other Thoth users what books they recommend to read.
And for other out there who are not sure about the deck like I was-give it a try you will be suprised I promise.
Love

there are a couple of good books on thoth by hajo banzhof. i have "the crowley thoth" which i like. there's another called "keywords to the thoth" that i've been told is better.
i just got this one which uses the thoth--"the tarot handbook: practical applications of ancient visual symbols: tarot symbols from a psychological, mythological, and cross-cultural perspective" by angeles arrien. i think it will be interesting since she uses lots of imagery, charts, and graphs to get her point across.
i don't think you can go wrong w/ any of these. btw, since you are considering getting the lg. thoth, some ppl here don't like the green color scheme done by one of the lg. thoth publishers. i have it and the color doesn't bother me. i have the small one, too! :)

that arrien book truthsayer wrote about is on my wishlist too. i have the keywords book and it is good - really easy, like a LWB only bigger and better:)
i also love my thoth!! i had a long and winding road to finally get it - then kaz from here sent me one and it was instant love. i now have the medium sized deck too! and use the smaller ones for daily-card (since the keyword is in dutch and therefore won't distract me too much) and i use the bigger to learn and study with.
i also just yesterday got the Ziegler book!
and i got the thoth book by crowley (that is quite good if you skip the introdution and just jump straight to the cards-section)
my card for today was the princess of cups!
i love all the courtcards in this deck.
we have a studygroup thread going on in the "general" forum - but not many post there. i might try and post there sometime myself and hope for replies:)
the thoth is my main deck at the moment.

The Crowley Tarot Handbook by Banzhaf is a great book! I really want the Keywords for the Crowley Tarot by Banzhaf as well.
If you follow one of the links, you can buy both these books together (Amazon.com) to a nice price. Good luck with your Thoth! I really love these cards. :)

You mentioned looking forward to purchasing the larger deck. I have the oversized deck (and only that one of the Thoth) and the images i like paintings, their very much more clear than the smaller sizes. I love the deck too, rest assured and despite the size :P
However, I recommend that you do not get rid of the smaller. The large deck is very difficult to shuffle, you wouldn't want any quarents to have to deal with handling them.
But as far as images go, my friend with smaller Thoths are envious of the beautiful and clear images. You can see details in the larger cards that are invisible (litterally) on the smaller ones.

Hello,
I very much love Thoth deck, and have used it exclusively for many years [when you got the best , why try the rest?:-)]
I would advise keeping the 'black' card in the pack, and use it to symbolize 'daath'. If it comes up in a reading I see it as a good omen, and meaning something magick going on.....as yet still vailed.
I wish you a happy future with this excellent deck, and add to the others here , in advising you read Crowleys 'book of thoth' [and perhaps regardes 'garden of pomegranates'

AmounrA: I have the Book of Thoth (follow the link to view sample pages), but I've only looked quickly through it.
About the black card, in what way do you interpret it? Do you see it differently in different positions?

lol, yes amounra, you are right, the only reason for aquiring other decks is that they are great pieces of art and you might read them as well.

Another good book, if you are interested in the Qabalah at all, is the Qabalistic Tarot by Robert Wang which compares various decks from this perspective and is great for learning. The decks it includes, if I recall, are: Raider Waite, Thoth, Golden Dawn, and Wirth .... (JMD is the Marseilles in it also?)
~giggles at JMD's comment to Kaz~ Kaz you mean JMD has not yet converted you to the Marseilles yet? *LOL*

lol, jewel and jmd,
yep, in a way he has.....he has gotten my interest in those type of decks so i own a camoin marseille and a soprafino deck. but they haven't beaten my thoth deck, and i will be surprised if they ever will.
those "old" decks have something special, take a look at the cary yale and the visconti sforza jewel, you might like them :-)

I am trying Kaz ... JMD has gotten me as far as me ordering a Camoin Marseille directly from france (in french) which has not arrived yet. I have the Wirth deck thanks to a trade with Lee, and I have contemplated the Visconti Sforza, but I don't know ... I just think they are ... ~hides behind something before someone can throw something at her as well as to not see their looks of dismay~ ... ugly. The Sopraphino I really like.
What can I say? ... at heart I am Cosmic Tribe kind of gal! *ROFLMAO*
No seriously, for the last few months (about 6-8 or so) I keep finding myself more and more attracted to Thoth based decks and to the Thoth in general. Perhaps it is the colors, I haven't figured it out yet, I have gotten to where I like them so much I have even developed a preference for the positon of the Strength and Justice cards *LOL*.
