I finally (yay!) got ahold of a copy of this deck for a reasonable price, and one of the first things I noticed was that the Empress has a sort of I-know-something-you-don't-know look on her face. Did anybody else notice that at all, or is it just me?

Abolutey... Its that reassuring look which makes you lso thin.... 'What do you know that I don't...?' I uppose it is kinda fitting, if we take the theory that the Empress was once the High Priestess.... The secrecy has moved from her mind into her womb, and nobody knows what is in there until it comes out...
This one is one of my favourite Empresses. Some pople have said she looks more like a dowdy Grandmother than the Empress represented in some decks, butI think she looks very motherly, very knowledgeable, and very creative... Th fact that she issittig spinning wool: Actually being active in creation, speaks more to me than the Rider Waite card of the woman just sitting on a sone cold seat.

I very much agree with this. Isn't that what she's supposed to be like? That's how I've always seen her - as the 'nesting' pregnant woman more than anything else. The one that knows more than she'll say, but is too busy building a comfortable place for her new family to worry about what she's not saying. She's confident and strong. Secure in her place.
Looking at her in the light of her place in the majors, she would be like the young woman just coming into her place. (High Priestess being more the young dreamer and the Hermit being the 'old crazy woman' IMO) That's illustrated very well in this deck. You just get the sense that things are starting to come around for her and she's comfortable with that.
