Ok I have decided to buy a really "traditional" deck and I have settled upon the Visconti Tarot.
My only question is which one????
I have three which I am leaning towards and I really value your opinions regarding them.
1. Visconti Sforza Tarot (not the gold one)
2. Visconti Tarot - Atanassov Atanes
3. Cary-Yale Visconti Tarocchi Deck
I don't really want another gold deck as I have that with the Nefertari's Tarot.
The Carey-Yale deck appeals to me because of the extra cards depicting male and female kinghts and pages. But I really want to stick to one of the three which I have mentioned above.
I like the minors to have illustrated pips as I have the Cagliostro Deck which shows the minors like normal playing cards with just the number of swords, wands, cups, pentacles on them rather than pips.
Oh I don't like unusually large cards, I prefer them to be normal sized.
I have sat here all night reviewing these decks and can't decide on which one...please give me your opinions...
Thanks everyone

Hi MM,
I was in the same dilemma, and I chose to get the gold Atanassov one, not because of the gold but because a) it's smaller and easier to use as a reading deck, b) it's got card titles on it which also makes it easier, and c) I dislike the Tower and Devil cards on the large size Visconti deck which were recreated by Luigi Scapini, and I believe he did some for the Cary-Yale deck too, although I'm not sure about that.

Is the Cary-Yale deck a large deck or normal deck size?
I think I am narrowing it down to this one and the Atanassov deck. I thought these 2 decks had no gold in them. Well I suppose if it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter.

Hi, MM --
Okay, here's the skinny --
Large Visconti, USGames, not gold, icky Scapini Death/Devil
Large Cary-Yale, USGames, may have icky Scapini cards
Small Visconti deck published by Lo Scarabeo, distributed by Llewellyn, has shiny gold, nice Death/Devil cards (this is the one by Attanassov)].

I have ordered the Visconti Tarot by Atanassov Atanas.
It looks very beautiful and seems to fit my criteria :)
Now that's 2 decks on their way to me...
Thank you all for your valued input.
Blessed be.

It's obviously too late for my recommendation, but I thought I'd let you know that thePierpont Morgan Visconti Sforza Tarocchi Deck printed by AG Müller and distributed by US Games (isbn 0-913866-0607) is definitely worth getting.
The cards are large (9.5 X 18 cm), but so were the originals.
