I was at my loacl Barnes and Noble and came across a couple of great clearanced items (books on Tarot and Wicca) and found the Hanson-Roberts deck marked for $7.00 (unopened). Naturally, I just COULDN'T pass up this deal ;). Now, to find some quality time to browse through my new deck.

the hanson roberts is my favorite reading deck. i have other decks for other things but this one gives me practical answers w/o a lot of fluff. it's gentle, too. i love her universal waite and whimsical tarot, too. imho, you can't go wrong w/ a deck by mary hanson roberts. i know the art is too childish for some but i really like the lack of sophistication. if i want sophistication i can use the rohrig or some other deck. you got an really excellent price, too. for $7 i probably would have bought it for a spare-one for the house and one for the car. :)
i think you done real good!

Congrats on the new deck! I've always liked this deck a lot; the images are pleasing and easy to read & the coloring is really nice. I've gotten some very accurate readings with it. Also, I like the back of the cards. It has a nice feel and don't be fooled by all the softness of the cards; I've gotten some important insights into trouble areas before using this deck.

Thanks, Truth! I was ecstatic about the find. Wish there had been more decks to get too.
I love her art also and her Whimsical is one of my favorites. I can't wait to do a new deck spread with it this evening.

Starfish,
Congratulations on your Hanson-Roberts find!!! That's a great deal. This was in the group of three decks that I bought right after starting to learn tarot last July...I'd had my trusty Rider-Waite for a while, but added the Hanson-Roberts, Morgan-Greer, and Spiral deck at the same time. I just love using the Hanson-Roberts. Like midnightmerry, I like the backs of these cards. I have them in a pretty suede bag that matches the color in the card backs. :) They love their bag. This deck has a way of getting right to the point in a direct but kind way.
Enjoy your new family member. ;)

Well, I not only did my new deck 3 card spread with the Hanson-Roberts (High Priestess :THP, Hermit :THERM and 3 of Cups :T3C - I think it's a love and learning match between us ;)), but I did Phoenix's Wings of the Phoenix Spread and oh my gosh! (or oh-my-heck, for those that watched Survivor 4 })) was the reading stunningly accurate! I gained so much insight this evening with it and love it's smaller size. This is going to be the deck that travels with me.
It's new home is a periwinkle/blue/aqua/lavender swirled patterned bag from Tarot Totes with lavender cording for the drawstring closure.
Ever so pleased...

This is one of the decks I got at Barnes and Noble also on clearance!! The artwork is GREAT isn't it?!? I LOVE IT! Its small size makes it perfect to slip into a small purse.

The artwork is great - I love the soft colors and it is absolutely the perfect size for a purse. I love when Barnes & Noble offers great sales ;)

Ug. I'm sorry, but you couldn't PAY me enough to get this deck. I really dontt like the art work. But hey, bargain deck, can't beat that....I guess.
But I am glad that you are happy with it.

Now Phoenix, be nice ;)... This particular deck loved your Wings Spread.
I know what you mean about how some decks appeal and others don't. There are quite a few decks people have mentioned as of late that they are in love with or desperate to get and I go and check the link and find that it's not for me.
Psssstttt.... any other great spreads in the works?

New spreads...always. Any worth posting, not yet.
Did you happen to see my Pyramid of Change spread yet??
But this deck...It's too cutsy for me, and all of the people have big heads. But this is my opinion.

Yes! And I love it too.... But the Wings Spread, it's a great, in-depth one. Definitely one of my very favorites.
And to keep this on topic, the HR deck does have big headed people.

I never had a lot of luck reading with the HR deck; I kept making up stories in my head for the characters displayed in the cards. Finally I sat down and just started writing a novel about the characters and in the end, had every single card incorporated in some way. It remains one of my favorite decks though.

What a lovely idea! :) I've been wanting to try something similar to that.

I like the Hanson Roberts too, its supposed to be a gentle deck, a nicer, easier on the eye version of the Rider Waite, but the readings can be just as intense and can really pack a punch.
I like the expressions on the faces of the cards, although serene they seem to bore right through you, Justice, the High Priestess and the Empress are the main 3 cards that look straight back at you lol
