Do you find this a lighthearted, romantic or perhaps not understandable tarot? I like it, but am interested in other opinions. It may appeal to those who are looking for something different, but not too far out from their Waite-Smith style workalikes with scenic majors
--------------------------------------------
Here's two complimentary reviews of Giorgio Trevisan's
tarots:
The 1995 version is reviewed here:
http://www.spiritone.com/~filipas/Masquerade/Reviews/renais.html
The 2000 version updated with little white booklet
and larger format is reviewed here:
www.illuminationtarot.com/insights/renaissance.html
Michelle on www.Tarotpassages.com and Gina Pace on wicce.com also reviewed the deck...I just posted the two reviews that are reflecting my feelings the most right now. I find Trevisan's
watercolors a good point of learning for me. I'm using
Tracey Porter's Tarot Companion to compare the
differences in the Giorgio Trevisan's designs. From
what I see, everyone is costumed in a RenFaire style.
Happy reading...by the way, the 22 card version of
Romantic Tarots by Giorgio Trevisan is on
TarotGarden.com and Alidastore.com. From the
glimpses, it seems to follow the painterly tradition
of the Romantics, with modern watercolors.
Best wishes,

Hi Mari
I think i own one of his decks. Its a majors only deck and it has now box just a sort of purple cover
I wish i had the deck with me right now so i could scan some pic's
The devil in this deck is the scariest i have ever seen. Its so simple. Just a man dressed in a robe with little horns sitting in a chair leaning on his wand.
I really like this deck!
And i'm planning to get his other deck too:)

What I've always wondered is whether Elisabetta Trevisan, creator of the Crystal Tarots (a.k.a. "Tarocchi di Vetro") is any relation to Giorgio. Their artwork is stylistically different, of course, but both seem to exhibit an extreme interest in detail and the "romantic" use of color. Does anyone know?

1.
Scroll down to find familar fine artworks by Giorgio Trevisan: the English versions of bios available on Giorgio Trevisan show that he was born in 1934, graduated in Classical Studies and was an illustrator for comic books, as well as a fine artist. The latest work seems to show his Venetian and romantic style, especially with the uses of beautiful washes of colors:
http://space.tin.it/arte/guavaler/pit_12-11-98.htm
Historically, Venice is known for Titian and the beautiful use of rosy colors became known in the Renaissance...yes, I see it in Trevisan's work. Maybe I am looking for it?

Wicce.com's review of the Crystal Tarots suggests that Elisabetta is his wife. The Tarot of Crystal/Glass , di Vetro, refers to the tempera on glass painted tarot that has influences of Gustave Klimnt (maybe not quite appropriately titled, because many of us all assumed that Crystal Tarots meant gemstones and crystals) I've only done a few searches for Klimnt's work for references...posted it under the Crystal Tarots discussion. Some resemblance to Klimnt's work, but her use of colors remind me of stained glass.

Wierdly, Amazon.com claims to sell Giorgio Trevisan's minature, 22-card majors only deck of Renaissance under the title Zichenecchi for $15.00...the Mystic Eye has pics of the large format version and tarotgarden.com has the large version. Alidastore.com sells the small format version. I'll see if Amazon.com can deliver...

Mari: Thanks for the referral to Wicce's review, but I'm not seeing the implication you're referring to. What am I missing?
...tarotgarden.com has the large version...
I love a good 78-card deck as much as the next tarot enthusiast, but I have to admit that I agree with Wicce's review on this one. In my experience, although the smaller versions of the Lo Scarabeo tarots are quite beautiful, there is a lot of breathtaking detail that really gets rather lost in the reductions from the 22-card d'Arte editions to the 78-card mass-market editions. Fortunately, I'm in a position now to be able to own both editions, but I realize a lot of people aren't that lucky...

Thanks for the question/correction.
Wicce.com notes Elisabetta is Giorgio's wife in the Tarot di Romanti (excuse spelling).
Best,
