I need to add some old style-looking decks into my collection...

I've been working with my Old English deck pretty exclusively this past week and just love the images. I was wondering if you guys could give me suggestions for 0ld style/medieval (etc.) looking decks to check out and possibly add ;) to my collection.

Do you like Italian Renaissance? I have Brian Williams' Renaissance tarot and it is really pretty, with golden edges and rich medievil clothing. I don't use it much to read with, but the artwork is very elegant. Maybe not as "earthy" as you may want, though. Very different feel from the Old English deck.

The Nigel Jackson deck looks interesting, although I've only seen it on-line here at aeclectic.

One of my favorite decks is La Corte dei Tarrochi. You can order it from Alida.

hmmmmm, maybe you'll like Medeival Scapini? I love this deck. But the only thing I don't like about it... (as with everything else I see some people do this on, certain cartoons ect.) is the way they paint or color in Black people's lips. I know this sounds crazy, but I am sooo picky about this. I hate seeing both upper and bottom lips bright pink. If my lips were like that (with my dark skin) I would look sooooo crazyyyyyyy. LOL I really wish the artist would have made the upper lip darker than the bottom lip. Ok, sorry for going way off subject on your post... but I DO think you'll like Medeival Scapini for its old and kinda destressed look.

How about the Visconti decks or Marseilles decks? They are very intuitive.

You have the Shakespearian Deck if you can find one (Im still looking for a good copy).

That has Elizabethian era if you are into it. Characters and quotes too.

It is interesting that you said Old English, as I think Robert Place's decks somehow captures this quite well.
If you look at www.Loscarabeo.com perhaps some of those old styles will appeal to you. But they are Italian, not English.
As much as I enjoy the Medieval Scalapini and Shakespherean style of decks, I've never read with them. A beautiful book at a reasonable cost, Juliet Sharman-Burke's "Mastering the Tarot" will show you samples from the following:
- Arthurian Deck with Miranda Gray's art
- Medieval Scalapini with Luigi Scalapini's art
- A Renaissance Tarot with Brian William's art

And while I cannot be certain, there were inserts from one or two other decks and a style of painting that reminded me of Robert Place's Alchemical Tarots.
Maybe the book will show you interesting insights and a sampling of old style decks in the way that would be interesting to you.

Oh! Thanks for the tip, Mari! :) I'm meeting some girlfriends up at my local Borders this evening for coffee and book discussion and will have to see if they have this book in stock.

Blessings -
