Hi guys, here's a perhaps stupid question from a much confused blond - how can I identify an ISBN number and find out whether it refers to a deck or a book...?
I have found what I think is the Cosmic Tarot at a very good price, but I've been fooled before and ended up with a book instead of a deck, and don't want to do that again.
The "item" has ISBN-number 0880796995 - anyone got an idea of how to track it down? (The people at my internet bookstore wouldn't know, they just sell the stuff, they know nothing about it.) I tried at US Games System, but their ISBN's were about 4-figures, mine has 10 figures... I don't even really know what these ISBN numbers are - can anyone give me a quick lesson...? :D
Light and love,
Jenny :)

Hi, Jenny-Li --
The item with that ISBN number is the Cosmic Tarot *book* by Jean Huets, *not* the deck. I only know 'cause I have it and I checked the number on it.
Sometimes you can tell if you go to Amazon.com and look up the items there, because they list the ISBN numbers, but even then sometimes it's hard to tell on Amazon what things are. With USGames decks on amazon, in general if the item costs around $15, it's the deck, if it's around $25, it's a deck/book set; and if it's $10, it's just the book.
Hope this helps...

Thanks so much, then I won't make the same mistake again and get a book when I think it's a deck...!
Light and love,
Jenny :)
PS: I'll keep your "price-rule" in mind too, seems to be an easy one to remember! :)

I've looked up the ISBN you included at Amazon, and that's just the book. However, if you look under "Product Details", more editions are listed, and if you click on "Paperback (Book & ca)" you get the Cosmic Tarot with deck (ISBN 0880791837).
Amazon usually lists under the "Product Details" whether it's a "book & cards" edition, but it's not always clear.

Tarotlady: thanks! I didn't really want to order from Amazon, it would end up too expensive. They have it at the local bookstore here, so finding it isn't a problem. I was just being cheap - as you know I spent a fortune on my domain, so I need to cut my expenses. Only I felt like just a small treat would make going back to work a wee bit less boring and painful...! (There's ALWAYS a reason to buy a new deck, right...? }):D)
I will try to think before I get my hope all the way up over my head the next time though...! *lol*

Jenny-Li, this was not a stupid question at all, I've been frustrated with the @#$*& item descriptions having you wondering what it is you're getting. I ended up with 2 copies of the Animal Druid Oracle, when I thought I got a deck and an extra book about it. Luckily there's always Aeclectic where you can trade stuff...
I always try Blackwell's, you can search by ISBN number and they often have a good item description e.g. book/deck + book/deck, often better than Amazon.

The ISBN you quoted is the same as my Jean Huets book on the Cosmic Tarot.
The Cosmic Tarot deck that I own has an ISBN of 0-88079-395-3.
