I find it nearly impossible to buy tarot cards from shops, the nearest I can get to is Waterstones and they don't have the choice there, W H Smiths only seems to sell Rider Waite, infact I had my first deck the Rider Waite from there lol.
I tend to buy now over the internet, amazon.uk, WHSmiths online and the R Somerville sites have always given me good service - you can pay either by cheque or credit card.
I research the decks I want from sites here, and then order hoping that when the decks come I like them as much as the scans - again I'm finding it a good way to buy decks, I've not been disappointed yet.
Hope this helps :)

Hello Pob,
I may have started out reading with Marseille & Rider-Waite type decks, but went over to the Thoth after about a year. The Thoth is an amazing deck to read with ... but I personally felt that I couldn't use it the same way as I'd used other decks. Crowley's Thoth has such a wide variety of influences that you really need a lot of time to read up on those things and study the different paths to enter the meaning of each card - I've lost count on the number of books and articles I've read once I started looking for info on the Thoth deck ... and I still only manage to read with it using three aspects of each card.
The deck is great, but watch out when you buy one - get it from a store that lets you take the cards out of the box: not so much because of the need to feel the deck's energy (that counts too) but to check the colours - the Thoth has been printed by several companies and sources, and some of the releases are faded in colour ... and this is one deck where you can't have that.

Hi Pob
I got my first deck from Waterstones, I looked on the net to see which one I wanted and then phoned them and got them to order it for me. Since then I`ve used Amazon UK. the last deck I bought was from Amazon.com - the US branch, it worked out cheaper than Amazon UK and they could get the deck I wanted quicker - it would have taken a couple of weeks for Amazon UK to find it but Amazon.com dispatched it within 24 hours and I had my cards within a week, even though it said they would take 11 to 18 days to get here. Just do a google search for a currency converter site. I was really suprised at how much money I saved, even with postage.
Blessings

What kind of tarots are you looking for?
Because of shipping costs, we may not be able to get you decks that have international distribution for less than you could get them locally (although I've occasionally been surprised at some of the "local" prices for massmarket decks quoted to me by our European customers). But we have a wide selection of HTF and OOP decks from all over the world, if your tastes run more eclectic. And we ship internationally, and even take personal checks (cheques?) in GBP and Euros.
If I can be of assistance, you can contact me directly at jkr@tarotgarden.com.
