Oke what is the question? Wich decks are truly OOP and wich not? And where can you get it.
A sort of reference guide to OOP decks.
My contribution so far
- Arcus Arcanum tarot: Availeble from AGM Agmuller
- Royal Fez moroccan : also from agm agmuller
What can you contribute to this list?

Hi, guys!
Someone (or someones) asked me for some assistance in compiling a list of OOP decks (on the thread about the "Royal Fez" deck being [not!] OOP), but I got tied up and haven't been able to really "hit the forums" for the last couple of days. A thousand apologies.
Regarding the compilation of such a list: I'm happy to contribute what I can, but with information on over 800 decks, the thing could get rather lengthy. In fact, from my perspective, it's a duplication of effort, because I try to keep that information on file and up-to-date in the Tarot Garden database.
If you look up any deck in our database, there is a line that reads "Publication Status." The publication status, as we describe it, can be one of seven things:
- In print
- Out-of-print
- Limited edition (with this classification, we often include info on the number of copies printed)
- Unknown (we usually have a good guess on these, but we have to go with this designation if we haven't been able to track down the info that leaves us reasonably certain as to the actual publication status)
- Publication pending (includes republication of previously OOP decks)
- Unpublished
- Virtual / online
Most of our current entries fall into the first four categories, simply because those are the decks we're focusing on documenting first. More will fall into the latter three categories as we complete our initial entry of all the published decks to which we currently have access (which is well more than the 620+ now in the database).
Because we started by specializing in rare, out-of-print, and imported (from a North American perspective) selections, I'll admit that we are, at present, disappointingly "light" on information about readily-available, in-print, mass-market decks. But we're getting there. We just finished moving our website to a new host server, so I've been working on making sure that our current database information is up-to-date before adding new info. But once I finish reviewing the information that's already there, I'll try to add the Royal Fez, Arcus Arcanum, and the other decks that have been mentioned on these threads that haven't been included among our listings yet.
Will that help?

yes, i definitely think it will help b/c we can check tarotgarden before we stampede. what a humongous job for the 2 of you!!!! i guess the best way we can help is buy our decks from you. :)
i get really tired of venders proclaiming decks OOP that aren't, too. there's also someone selling the rock and roll tarot card by card on ebay. i don't know if it's the creator or some entrepreneur. it angers me everytime i see the individual cards b/c it gluts up ebay by making it hard to pick the deck listings out from all those single card listings.i wonder if ppl buy these cards b/c they don't want to buy the whole deck or they don't know for $30 they can have a whole deck! the bottomline is BUYER BEWARE!!
can you tell us what's the rarest deck in the world right now? i think some of us are ripe for emptying out our retirement accountments for rare OOP decks! ;)

Well, make sure to mention Aeclectic if you do. Until we get our online shopping cart functional, we won't know if the referral from any sale came through Aeclectic or not unless you tell (or, in some cases, remind) us.

Actually, I eChatted with Chris about the card-by-card thing at one point. As a collector and tarot enthusiast, I, too, get my hackles raised by auctions like that (and the current R&R seller is not the first or only seller to pull that stunt). But in his reply, Chris did point out something I hadn't thought of -- and that is, as you say, truth, that some people do not want to buy the whole deck. A tarot enthusiast, maybe... but an Elvis fan? $4 for a single "collectible" limited edition Elvis tarot card is probably a bargin, as far as Elvis memorabilia/collectibles go. And I suppose someone like that shouldn't be forced to buy the whole deck, if s/he can get the only card of interest to them for $4 or so. Still, it does seem like a bit of a waste of a limited edition deck, to see so many copies being scattered to the four winds.
[insider tip sidenote: those of you who have been eying the second edition of chris' "rock & roll" tarot had better move fast... chris has said he's almost sold out. we just got our last restock at Tarot Garden, and we've been informed that we won't be able to reorder.]

You're going to have to put some parameters on that question, I think. Is it possible to get "rarer" than a single copy? If number available at the present time is a defining factor, then any unpublished, single-copy tarot (such as Peter Wood's Painted Ladies tarot) would fall into that category.
If you're talking about actual limited editions, I know of tarots whose print runs were limited to as few as three copies.
If you're talking about decks that had some measurable degree of publication and geographic distribution, then it depends on how far back you want to go. For example, Kaplan's newly-acquired Pam-A deck probably qualifies. Kaplan himself claims that the copy now in his possession is only the second copy of that particular (i.e., first) R/W edition to have been found intact.
If you're looking for something published a little more recently that isn't a limited edition, it's a much harder call. In the strictest sense of the term, the "rarest" one is probably one we don't even know about (or remember). Ones such as the Sheridan-Douglas or Acuario come to mind, but I'm not sure they could really qualify as being among the "rarest" -- we just know from experience at Tarot Garden that the supply of these older, OOP decks far outstrips the demand. But the same could be said of the even more-recent Servants of the Light Tarot or Jungian Tarot, and I'd hardly define those decks as "rare." Again, it's simply a supply-and-demand thing.
So, after having prattled on as usual in reply to a simple question, I suppose I should ask: is that the information you were looking for?

Hi people~
Just wanted to share my misery after going to the great
Tarot Garden web site (through a link at Aecletic. .
someone linked there with a ~~~Trpppy Deck~~~
awhile ago)
I say "share the misery" because the deck
I fell in love with
. . . was my first experience with
the total frustration of seeing a deck
of unusual grace and charm
with no price
and falling into a revery of images that all seem
to center on yourself with this deck in your hands
smiling beatifically (how do you spell that word?)
Only to get a very tough lesson in OOP decks
when Jeannnette and Lori e-mailed me with the full
and sorry truth...
The Carnivale di Venezia (guessing in this spelling, etc...)
by Amerigo Folchi was so rare that they had only one to offer,
"there is this one we know of that the owner is not sure he wants to sell...
priced at. . . " I may have lost conciousness at that point-
but I have a recurring dream of this moment: over
and over again
and I wake up in a cold sweat~
hearing the price ringing like a foghorn
inside my head.... $750 to $800,
and something about it missing a card, but it is
all a blur now.
Still love that deck. Have no children or antiques to pawn...

well, jeannette and/or lori i was kinda thinking about something simple like a copy of the first rws deck but i can see that this isn't a simple question...
all is one, you seem to be suffering from post-traumatic deck syndrome. you have all the symptoms. it's where the deck of your dreams is out of pocketbook range and you have repetitive nightmares about the traumatic moment you learned the truth. but there is hope. if you check out a recent thread on tarot-holics, you'll find the contact information for a certain gentleman who wears this cologne that smells distinctly of sulfur. ;) :D

Truth, I also read something abuot this gentleman somewhere else - maybe my question regarding tarot-holics...
I can't get what thread you are referring to! :(
TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME !!!
By the way, on these boards a Tarot-holic Anonimous Group was supposed to be formed. I mean, many sides and issues have been analysed and dealt with. Now there's the need to gather all the valuable info we shared, and write a TA-Journal.

On these boards? Isn't that like holding an "Alcoholics Anonymous" meeting at a local bar?...

Yes, but we wouldn't want anyone to get withdrawal symptoms, would we?
Besides, I should think you in particular wouldn't want the Tarot-holic Anonymous Group to be too effective, you'd be out of business... :D :D

Well, despite my own addiction, I would nonetheless still advocate that we all "tarot responsibly."

What does that mean, will you be printing warning labels on the boxes, like they do on cigarettes? :D
Something like:
"This product can cause taroholism"
"This product can seriously damage your financial health"
:D
