Tons of opinions on Amazon.com and a few nice ones on Aeclectic. Below is for those who are considering the deck or are curious about other opinions.
I did a google search on Shapeshifter Tarot and life directions readings. There's more challenging decks out there, but I'm at ease with Lisa Hunt's use of watercolors. I seem to like Giorgio Trevisan's tarots as well, while others might find his pen and ink drawings and watercolors not to their taste.

As per recent threads, there's some morphing with sea animals, but not straight mermaid/mermen figures. I'm interested in other reviews, opinions and ideas if you have used it, like it or don't.
Perhaps the soft focus is a little to pretty for some---or the morphing is too strange for others. I'm curious, because I'm beginning to think this is a nice oracle to rediscover this summer.
Any feedback is welcome,
Mari H.

I hadn't looked at the Shapeshifter before reading your post so I followed the links. What struck me about the cards is that I'd personally not do much reading with them, but they'd make a marvelous set of cards for meditation- especially right before bed! I'd love to see what my imagination with do with those images in my dreams.

I agree with you on this, Laurel! They make an excellent deck for meditation and spiritual works, that is why I love to use them in such readings that deal with this subject. They respond to me on a quite deep level... I just LOVE them... gosh, am I biased. :D
I would not trade them for almost nothing in the world as they really mean something special to me.

Helruna

Has anyone tried a past life spread with this tarot? They're nice when I need a lift as I evolve in new directions or ideas, going forward.
But has anyone tried them to find out what connections they had in the past that might influence choices now? I'm thinking of things such as a desire to study European art, portraiture...if there were keys to link with past connections and choices, perhaps it assist my uncertainty in certain art or history studies...
I'm also thinking of looking at or evaluating past events, energy or archetype connections (I don't know how to phrase it correctly)
for reflective writing.
Best,
Mari H.

Mari,
Check out the General Studies folder under the 4 Konraad Thrones. Helruna used her Shapeshifter deck to do this particular past life spread.

i had this deck at one time but couldn't relate to it. it was a very pretty deck. my frustration w/ it is similar to what i felt towards it sibling--the celtic dragon. beautiful art but i felt like i had to re-learn tarot in some ways. the biggest complaint is the switch to air=wands and fire=swords. i tried ignoring the switch but found it too frustrating. `d.j. conway has a way a creating her own thing w/in the tarot system. not that this is bad but not all of us can follow her there. i like to think of myself as flexibe but i can't bend but so far! i think it would be easier if i had just thought of SS as an oracle rather than a tarot. would like to give another chance but i traded mine away due to frustration.

I am glad Truthsayer posted.
I'm getting the feeling that agrees with either a TarotPassages review that suggested this might be a nice oracle.
Many of the paintings are beautiful and suggestive. I will still value its art
I also realize though, some people were not happy with the paintings if they wanted something more natural---someone said the Wild Spirit Disney movie of mustangs flopped for many reasons--- among them, people said they weren't interested in a movie of pretty geldings. But many people have posted about an interesting spread past life spread that I will check out with a few different tarots.
Many medieval and Renaissance paintings managed to be discrete and humanly true about human forms among the very conservative. I'm doing a study deck of majors using Greco-Roman to High Renaissance images for inspiration---and am observing that my ideas of both the Celtic Dragon and Shapeshifter vs. watercolor tarots by Giorgio Trevisan are shifting again. I'm moving back to the Trevisan decks for reading.
I am not certain why, but I want to do a past life spread with a different deck. Thanks for letting me know, I will check the beautiful spread ideas tomorrow.
