My parents just got back from there holliday in France...so was already happy cause i misted them.
When whe where unloading the car the gave me two presents...guess what ;)

The decks are the marseille tarot the grimaud version so i can finally study the marseille style decks :)

And the other one is a very unusual tarot deck called "les tarots des Gitans" Its gorgeouse!!!! The minors are pips but i was planning on learning to read with this kind of decks anyway.
The cards themselves are large and the card stock is a little strange....there not cotted ore something.
There seems to be a good book with it but i can't read french :(

Oh, Maan! Congratulations on your new decks. What a lovely surprise. I've never even seen a Marseilles style deck in person (only online) and need to add one ;) to my collection.

Let us know how they read for you!

Blessings -

Yeah that's the one tarotlady....
I just got back from an frustrating trip to my scanner and HELP!!! i can scan...i can see the image but the d@rn program will not save the pictures......

So Kaz if I ever/or my brother can get this stupid thing to work i will scann some more pictures cause the ones on the tarotgarden side are not the most beautiful pictures in this deck. There is even a mermaid on the Moon card :)

Oh, Maan, I really envy you for the Tarot des Gitans! This one is really high on my wishlist, I really have to go to France again as I don't get it here.

Here comes your saviour Catlin! :D

It would not take much shipping from San Marino to Deutchland, and it should not even be expensive. I hope this will help.
I thought about searching for the deck in ALIDA when I saw that the publisher was De Vecchi, de same publisher of Laura Tuan's Tarocchi Celtici (that I have :D). I can recognize something in the cards familiar... Probably the artist who drew the pictures was the same... Let me check...
*Goes to get the deck*

Wow, Pollux, you're a marvel!!! B/W can you tell me more about the Tuan's Tarocci Celtici? maybe I'd love to get this one too.

You guess? I wrote a Review for Aeclectic time ago :D :D :D (bows to thank for the CLAPS). If you need to know more, just e-mail me or contact me in any way: telepathy, time/space travel, whatever...

I think you can find a couple of other reviews somewhere around... mh... I'll give it a look.

Anyway, I checked for the artist of the deck, and there is not a name specified, but LAURA TUAN all over the place... It is my opinion that the artist may well be the same for both decks at any rate.

Congratulations on the new decks Maan... these sound like great additons to your collection. I love the artwork on the scans here on AT of the Tarots des Gitans, but the Tarot of Marseilles, alas, is not one that ever worked for me. Just one of those things I reckon.

Anyway... in regards to your book which is printed in French. There is a web site which does a fair job of translating text. It would probably take a while since you would have to try to type it in (and type it very accurately), but it does seem to do pretty good translations. The URL is;

http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn

It will translate from French to English, as well as several other languages to English, including Japanese, German, Italian, Portugese, along with 3 or 4 others. You could translate the bits of text on the cards, one card at a time perhaps.
