Sacred Rose, Googly Eyeballs, etc.

Just got the Sacred Rose Tarot. Its the one with the weird, whited-out eyeballs. If you can get past the googly eyeball thing, its not a bad deck. The artwork is pretty good, and its got enough variety that it gets past the "theme deck" label. I see it as a cross between the Tarot of the Cloisters and the Robin Wood Tarot in both feeling and art. The Lovers card is different. Its got the angel Raphael, a man, Eve and Lilith. the Lovers card can be seen at http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/sacredrose/index.html No nudity in this deck. All the interesting parts are strategically covered up with hair, plants, etc. but it still has a sensual feel. Its worth a look.

Divinerguy I agree with you. This was the 3rd or 4th deck I got, mainly those bright "jeweled" colors really caught my eye. Well and the whole roses thing. But it is not a themed deck, and it is very very usable. The whole eye thing never really bothered me because I love the colors so much. This deck is definetly worth giving a chance.

i couldn't deal w/ the macabre look of the deck and only white eyes so i traded it. i haven't felt called to trade back for it yet but if i wanted the shapeshifter back 2 years after trading it then i suppose the sacred rose stands a chance of returning to me. ;) i originally bought it b/c i love roses. i don't like heavily kabbalistic decks either. i used to love decks that were heavy in arcane symbols but in recent years my tastes have been changing to interesting images or overall nontraditional archetypal/mythological/psychological themes over symbols and tradition.
