Hi all,
I was surfing all the tarot sites and shamelessly gawking at all the decks when I stumbled upon Songs for the Journey Home. This deck really struck me and right now it's #1 on my wishlist. Since I'm a masochist at heart (or something like that), I would like to hear more about this deck. I would like to be able to justify (even if it's flimsy) paying that much money for the deck. *lol* So, thoughts? How easy is it to read with? How's the book that goes with it? Are the colors on the actual cards as vibrant as they seem on the internet? How's shuffling?

Lee's review sais it all. This is another deck sitting in my collection waiting for me to have time for it. It is beautiful! but at this point that is about all I can say about it. One thing I did like was that there is at least one card that is separated into 2 pictures (cannot remember which one or ones) and I recall looking at it and thinking how cool that was and how well it worked with that particular deck. It appears user friendly on first glance. As far as I am concerned it is the overall nicest looking round deck I have seen. I like the Tarot of the Cloisters, but this one just is prettier to me.

i have the deck and it is nice. i have decks that are more beautiful but SftJH has a soothing presence about it probably b/c it's nice in soft pastels. i've seen it up for trade here several times over this summer. you might want to post some things up for trade and make this deck one that you will trade for. the drawing style is a bit primative but still a better drawn round deck than motherpeace. tarot of the cloister is pretty but the colors are way too intense for me. so i have to say this is my fav round deck also. i haven't ever read w/ it b/c i would need to adjust to some changes the creators made in contrast to more traditional decks. if you want a unique deck this is certainly a good one.

I love this deck! It is good for intuitive reading. There are so many symbols in each card that something different will pop out at you every time the card comes up.
I have to point out, though, with all due respect to Lee, that the figure in Homecoming is the Star Grandmother as seen from behind. That is why she seems to be faceless. I noticed her hand positions only made sense from this position, then I saw that she appears to be wearing a yellow ring on one hand. If you look really closely you can see her thumbnails. So she's facing the wave at the back of the card, and we're seeing the back of her head.
It is rather hard to make this out, though. And this view does make her look like the Lovers card from Thoth.
If you can get the money together for this one, do get it.

You might like to make a research in the tarot deck section because I am sure there are earlier threads (at least two) about this wonderful deck.
WARNING : As it is a round deck, some may be put off immediately for some reason.

I got this deck at a Mind, Body, Spirit Expo in Portland, OR two weeks ago. Actually, we got two! Landon got one right away (along with a reading done by Dwariko with the deck), and I went back the next day needing my own copy.
Dwariko von Sommaruga (the artist) was there with the deck and bunches of other "goodies" that she made. Since she was heading to NZ after the Expo and didn't want to lug a bunch of decks with her on the plane, she had the deck on sale for $29! The book was already autographed by Catherine Cook, and Dwariko was very happy to put a personal message in it also.
Dwariko offered Landon a handmade bookmark when he got his deck. He chose one that featured the Moon card.
When I got my copy, it was late on the last day of the Expo, so not only did I get a bookmark (she chose Wind Creating for me), I got a laminated Star poster and a Homecoming magnet.
She is a very sweet and wonderful human being. She remembered both myself and Landon over the two days of the Expo. When I bought my copy, she smiled and told me that she could see me using this deck in future for doing professional readings, that I could do what she does... Now if I could only draw!
I haven't had much time to spend with this deck (I've done one reading), but it seems to be very intuitive and user-friendly. The book and deck seems very loving and encouraging in tone.
I am delighted to add this deck to my collection (especially at $29!) and look forward to getting to know it.

SPOT ON, mate!
I love this deck for its gentleness, its wonderful naive pictures. Yet it tells about real problems (the style is naive not the message) concernig individuals (anxiety, loneliness, loss, illusion etc.) as well as some of more general concern (place of the human being on earth and in the universe, pollution, capitalism etc.).
I also got a very warm contact with Dwariko, she has been around the world for a while now, something like two years, i guess. Guys, if you didn't get the chance to catch her during this trip, order the deck from the creators' site or from the tarot garden (back in stock!). That was free advertising LOL.
Of all my decks, there are many I wouldn't trade because they mean something to me: they were gifts from DH, I love the pics, the theme etc. But the Songs is the ONE i will never trade because I LOVE IT. It warms up my heart everytime i look at it. This is the only deck I ever saw in dreams (I saw the cards the night after I received it, that shows what an impact they had on me, especially as the cards were in my dearest laughing child's little hands, and it was all shiny and warm around bla bla).
Take care, enjoy your deck, Riversea! and you too Landon!
:-)

It has only just been ordered though, so it may be some time.... hopefully in time for my birthday though (end Jan).
I was very drawn to the pictures, and it will make an interesting contrast with the Osho deck.

Sorry so late on this one...just read the original post. I love this deck--it is my 2nd favorite (after Ancestral Path). I find it is really good for self-reflection and any kind of personal readings. I don't use it much when reading for others. But that's just me!

Deck arrived today. I, too, love the gentle imagery. I can see that I will be using this deck for meditation.
