Hi everyone-
well, I think its time for me to get a new deck. yippee! Now to try and decide which one. Here are the ones I already have: Rider-Waite, Mythic, Thoth, Vampire, Robinwood.
I am looking for something that doesn't stray too far away from traditional symbolism and something with nice art work.
Any ideas? What are some of your favorite decks?
blessings,
Moonklad

Moonklad, I suggest that you browse the AT database first, and some other sites if you can.
Anyway, VISION QUEST, SPIRAL, ROHRIG...

Hi Moonklad,
Choosing a tarot deck is a very personal matter so I don't suggest you some decks but like to point out if you want to stick to more traditional decks and expand in this direction or if you want to get more "readable" decks or start to collect decks. Do you want to get into theme decks or are there special interests like herbalism, etc you want to combine with tarot, etc.
Just check some tarot decks displayed here or at tarotgarden, wicce, etc and then ask who is working with this deck and why.

okay, here are a few decks that borrow from the rws/thoth or can be read w/ a rws/thoth backgroun: aquarian, morgan-greer, whimsical, sacred rose, nigel jackson, ancient egyptian, hanson roberts, universal waite by hanson roberts, mountain dream(i say this b/c the creator lives in asheville, nc and i see you live in SC), zerner-farber(sm) or enchanted(lg) version of same deck, victoria regina, vision quest, art nouveau by matt myers, hudes, spiral, halloween, cosmic, tarot of a moon garden, gendron, ancestral path, gill, witches, sharman-burke casselli--otherwise known as the beginner's tarot, tarot of the old path.
i've taken care to include decks that i don't really like just to make sure you've got a well-rounded list.
for someone in the learning process(which never ends btw), these are my favs: aquarian, morgan greer, hanson-roberts, universal waite, zerner farber, halloween, cosmic, sharman-burke casselli and the whimsical.
please don't let me confuse you but since you liked the vampire deck i feel i need to add this: when you are ready to walk on the wild side you must check out german tarot artists like the rohrig, ananda, and the margarete peterson. the rohrig is reasonbly priced. be ready to spend some money on the other 2. other fav wild ones are the templar, cosmic tribe, neferteri, vertigo, rock & roll, i am one, and wild spirit. i like my standard decks for reading but those on the wild side can knock my socks off by their artistic beauty!!!!!!

As the others have said, choosing a deck is a very personal choice. It's important that you find one that speaks to you and not just person who told you about it. ;) Still, recommendations can't hurt so I'll add my favorite deck plugs to truthsayers good list. I believe (though I could be wrong) that she forgot to mention two of my favorites: the World Spirit and Spiral. They are very different in style but about equal in intensity. I get excellent readings from both. I will add that the Spiral is particularly nice on small hands, though the World Spirit isn't bad size-wise either.
Just my two cents... well, decks.

Moonklad,
Taking into account the previous suggetions, I would add the Tarot of the Spirit by Pamela and Joyce Eakins. Nice art,on the tradional side, and good for reading.

The Spiral and Diamond decks are nice, the Spiral being a clone and the Diamond with its 'eyecatching' borders and both can be easily read with R/W interpretations. If you like large size decks the black and white Victoria Regina might catch your eye, and it has a nice book to go with it. :)
